This promoted content (per Oct. 9) is years old, and just makes this site reek of neglect and unprofessionalism.
At this point it would be better to just remove the promoted content box, and replace with links to the anomalies in LA and Yokohama. I guess Niantic wants to promote those, or...?
From what @PkmnTrainerJ provided in an earlier post as a link, the Promoted Material extension on Vanilla Forums makes the ability for forum mods to add topics to a special list that displays the topics on the home page here. They can also add it into the "Promote" category if you ever wondered about that stat on your profile.
I looked at the extension and the way it's displayed on the homepage. The extension isn't utilizing something like a quick link of all topics tagged promoted content. The last few topics are from before the news items were separated to its own group. The search function is also horrible so...yeah.
I suppose 2 out of the 3 are relevant all the time.
However, when was the last AMA on the forums? There was one on reddit, which was claimed to be easier to do with upvotes etc. even though as noted the functionality is built in to the Vanilla Forums;
They even listed (most of) them on the main site so that the information is easy to find.
As per the interview with @NianticTintino 's former colleague, NianticDanbocat, the Wayfarer team was sometimes as small as one person and sometime it was 4 people at most.
We know the Ingress team is easily double that, so surely they can do a "proper" AMA if they are promoting this content?

Internet Explorer is ringing in the new year.
What part of "it's probably on its own list" do you not get? If someone removes from the list, it will just also grab what was previously featured.
I get it. Doesn’t mean I’m not gonna prod this topic every now and then though.
with every little action they do?
Just whenever I notice it.
It gets better and better :D

Changed again but still outdated...
changed again to old unrelated news🤨

and Wayfarer team have had 3 recently.

What the hell are people going to ask for during the AMA that would really be worthwhile?
Let's cover the basics:
It is interesting looking back at a few.
So I wouldn’t mind some feature questions being asked.
They could even limit it to 15 like the Wayfarer team did, and have votes as mentioned.
Were the Reddit responses worth it?
Probably not. Do I want another better thought out AMA instead of a “quick one before catching a flight” on the forums? Absolutely.
But why? A lot of AMAs were non answers even when Krug did them. It's such a weird focus.
Did someone react with Promote on this post by mistake @NianticThia ?
or was it due to it being a hot topic of discussion?
These don't update automatically, so likely a misclick by Niantic when they merged the 4 posts from that agent into one.
Yeah, I would guess so. Just a bit weird to see a user created thread there instead of the usual Niantic ones pinned.
🤷♂️
Having it make promoted content does contain some humerous irony...
