@NianticThia 23rd is not Thursday. Did you just announce a Live Q&A just 1 1/2 H before it starts? Based on https://savvytime.com/countdown?name=March%202022%20Q%26A%20with%20Brian%20Rose&time=1648062000000 the link in the post

That's a timely announcement. So Niantic again...
Edit. Right, so this was a mistake, nice, now we have a day to prepare.
It's for tomorrow, the original post was just updated
Corrected now. Niantic Social channels ready.
I’m assuming the responses will be posted here too somewhere. Does this count as an AMA? 😮
Where can I find the invitation code for joining Ingress Official att Niantic social?
Edit: 👍🏼Thanks for adding it to original post!
Communication fail - again. Does anyone check stuff at Niantic before they post/run events?
Maybe for training Niantic could lodge tickets for spoofers, where we are asked to convert times to UTC? I have many tickets worth of experience doing this.
It's really not that hard.
Actually, nowhere does it state you need to convert a timestamp to UTC for spoofer tickets. All that is requested is that you include a timestamp and timezone. What that timezone is is up to you, as long as the timestamp is relevant to that timezone.
Why did NianticBrain rewrite my question, remove half the question, and twist its meaning when answering it?
Again:
- You bluntly closed the space of 1/6th of the earth to play.
- You killed all of the players' achievements.
- You didn't give a damn about cheaters before closing Ingress, and you showed that perfectly in the thread pinned here in chat.
- You announced the closure notice exactly on Twitter, which is blocked in Russia, and nowhere else. And you didn't let people do anything, like transfer the keys legally to other countries.
- You wrote off the C.O.R.E from the players the day or the day before the shutdown. WITHOUT A WARNING!
- You are silent and don't explain your decision, only Tia has unsubscribed in incomprehensible water when the topic came up about money.
- You charger our dove, thereby making it a gravestone on the coffin of Ingress in Russia, rather than a sign of peace (perverting its original meaning)
- You have done everything to make people in two countries not want to return to your games under any circumstances.
- You spit in our faces.
We had hoped that at least ALL of our portals would be frozen. But they have completely defrosted. The only ones left are the ones that can be charged from across the border, as well as the ones that spoofers charge.
We tried to file reports on spoof accounts out of Russia, you ignored that too.
You wrote:
NianticBrian (NB): We stand with the global community in hoping for peace and a rapid resolution to the violence and suffering in Ukraine. Suspending gameplay in Russia and Belarus was a very difficult decision, and we didn't make it lightly.
So? Did you get peace? Did you get what you wanted?
WHAT METHODS WILL YOU USE TO GET OUR COMMUNITY BACK?
The rest of what you said was a statement, not really a question, so I can see why it was trimmed. What would have been an acceptable answer for you?
An answer on how they are going to fix the broken community in our countries after the game is turned on. Point by point, no water.
And at least an apology to us for such an ill-conceived and humiliating method of alerting us to disconnect Ingress from Russia and Belarus. Did you want to achieve peace, or you wanted to make fun of the players in Russia and Belarus?
- Will there be a fix for the consequences of the complete depletion of the portals? Will it be possible to restore FDs at least in areas remote from the main cities?
- Many players are subscribed to the C.O.R.E. and still pay it, but do not have the opportunity to play. Will they be given anything in case of Ingress in Russia and Belarus?
- Portals held by honest players have sagged, but portals that benefit spoofers are now loaded. We sent reports, but we were ignored. Will this be fixed?
- How will the niantic give agents motivation to put their scanners back on and return to the community after Ingress is turned on?
My question was: What will you do to get people in our countries to come back to Ingress after it is turned on.
Maybe my English is bad, maybe something else. But the impression is that we are either completely ignored, or not understood, or trivialized.
I say people from Russia and Belarus will not come back to the game after it is turned on. I'm asking - what is Niantic willing to do to make people want to play Ingress again?
I hope this teaches @NianticBrian an important lesson: Trying to reason with the unreasonable never works.
Brian needs to toughen up, stop trying to win over the angry Russians, tell them the decision isn't changing, then stop engaging with them. Absolutely nothing is gained by continuing "conversation" on the topic.
Yes, the main question from Russian players is - what are we personally guilty of?
How did shutting down our favorite game help the unfortunate civilians of Ukraine? We also feel very strongly about what is happening, but we have no real way of influencing it. And Ingress was a way to disconnect from the horrible reality - in fact, this game was our soul medicine! Please understand this fact and don't ignore the requests of loyal players - we NEED Ingress here.
I don’t think they’d have that answer prepared at all yet. It’s not yet known when the war and conflicts will end. There’s no further answers as yet on how/when Ingress will be re-activated in Russia and Belarus, so it’s a bit pointless asking currently. I am surprised it was picked up to be answered.
The absence of this answer means never. And their silence confirms exactly that. And it's infuriating.
It's what makes people write in our chats: I'm not coming back to this game.
Turning on the scanner does not equal returning to the game.
If agents aren’t going to come back to the game when the conflicts are resolved then Niantic will have to think of something to sort it out. As it stands now, it’s still going on, and the end of it may be a long time away yet, so no need to spend time and resources on something now.
The thing is, it's not just the fact that we are blocked infuriates© people. It's how it was done. With all the ways of communication available, i.e. community forum, in-game notification, email, Niantic social - they picked Twitter. Seriously? It's been blocked in Russia for ages. And no decent explanation, nothing. They took the money for CORE a day before they closed the game, just as Google announced they "pause" their services. So they knew they won't have to refund anything.
They played dirty and covered it by a greater cause, that's what's not right. We understand companies are pressured to stop operating in Russia and it's ok, business is business. A decent announcement though and an honest message to affected agents - which we are yet to hear - would be appreciated.
But nia chose to spread the hatred instead, it's their right.
Basically, I'm just going leave it here. That was my question:
Can you please comment on the decision to block all the agents regionally in Russia and Belarus without any notice? What was the message, to express your hatred towards us? We understand it was inevitable, but you could have at least give us a notice by email or on the community forum, not on Twitter which is blocked by the government in russia. Also, you took the money for subscription and blocked us the next day, now refunds are impossible, seems like done intentionally to hurt us even more. We feel like we're being cut off the community for the actions of our government which we can't control or influence. Do you understand what a totalitarian regime is? Do you really believe isolating agents is a good solution? I wish you put that energy into fighting spoofers, because spoofers here still can fly and play and legitimate agents are being punished. Do you realize that you will lose most of the agents here because we feel dumped and betrayed? We are collateral damage in games of politicians and big corporations. But we are people and we were too naïve to believe that we're a part of the community. Now we clearly see we aren't.
I asked a basic question about the cell-score widget,, weird they didnt answer that one atleast...
Dont be surprised niantic turned off the game, i just read now that even Spotify will beginning in april stop working even the free version so it will probably be a while before things return there normal..
I'm commenting as someone living in the US with no skin in the game, for the most part. But you kinda hit the nail on the head with this whole thing and much of this I hadn't even realized happened to agents in that area. Typical Niantic to forget who, at least partially, pays their light bill. But hey, once they open the game back up to you folks, gonna need you to catch up on scans and new wayspots real quick, alright? kthxbye
I will say, at this point, if Niantic were to just shut off the game to me randomly and **** my sojourner (which they did once before with an iOS bug), I'd be done and I'm guessing there is at least a few who have already deleted the app off their phone in Russia.
I counted only 9 actual answers. Will there be more answered from the question pool?
There were many, many questions that weren't addressed.
yes will more be answered? i hope so.
Yes, they will, Thia is going to provide us an update later
Hopefully not similar to the roadmap "update"...
I was also disappointed that Brian avoided answering simple questions (including some concrete questions about how Ingress works now) in favor of the conceptual stuff about plans and vision.
I think if he gave definitive answers to more of the simple and/or frequent questions (like "Is Seer ever coming back?") it would help the tenor of discussion in the whole Ingress community by settling some of the dumber debates once and for all.
Yeah on seer its enough is seer ever coming back ? - "No we have no such plans for the time being". I asked if prime will get a MU score widget if its not planned and will not come i would accept even a short answer "no plans for a widget"....
Also, everyone demanding Brian to explain the how/why of the shutdown are ignoring a major fact: Niantic shut withdrew all of its games from Russia simultaneously.
Brian, in all likelihood, didn't make this decision -- it came from Niantic management -- and he's not authorized to give any statement other than the company's statement. You can spend the rest of your life asking Brian why he did something he didn't do, and he won't be allowed (as long he works for Niantic) to tell you a single detail.
I'd tell the Russians here to go pester John Hanke, but they can't use Twitter, either, and he's probably too busy writing speeches about how much he hates Mark Zuckerberg to bother replying.
Always used to find tickets better dealt with in UTC and timezone naming is not always consistent around the world. UTC or GMT times are consistent whereas WST which we use here is also used in other locations around the world.
Still waiting.
okay, I have another question.
When we had covid restrictions and some countries couldn't play, the gameplay changed for everyone in the world, even for countries with no restrictions. no events were held or they were repeated so everyone could catch up with the medal later (the kinetic event).
at the moment 2 countries are regionally blocked from playing. and one more country is in a state of war so it's kind of not really safe to play. so, my question is, will the current event be repeated after the war is over or agents here are worse than all the other agents in the world? what do you mean by "community"?
and please if you decide to answer, either give an honest one or just skip, there's plenty of vague wording already
Hopefully everything will resolve itself fast enough that we can push to have another weekend to get this badge. Optima is coming up again, so they're ok with repeating events long after they first happened.
Doubt so. By the way, the "qa-questions" channel is already deleted.
