Feature Request: Portal Scan for Huawei AR related devices
Now when there are problems with Google certifications - a lot of Huawei devices do not support Google Services for AR, but support the AR library from Huawei - Huawei AR Engine https://developer.huawei.com/consumer/en/doc/development/HMSCore-Guides/introduction-0000001050130900.
Is it possible to add support of this library to Ingress Android to be able to scan portals?

I would imagine they won't for a number of reasons. Likely revolving around Legal/Intellectual Property concerns mainly.
Hi team,
I would like to see any reaction from Ingress application developers if it is possible.
If I am not wrong the AR libraries from google and huawei are very similar.
"Similar" doesn't mean that it won't take a lot of work to make it happen though.
I don't know anything 'official' from Niantic, but I'd imagine that unless their player base has a large percentage of Huawei phones in use across PoGo and Ingress, they're not likely to implement the work to make this happen, just because Huawei has decided to block Google's ARCore module.
"just because Huawei has decided to block Google's ARCore module" is among the most funny jokes I've heard this year on the forum. The fact is Google's blocking Huawei for some reasons we all know while what you say is contrary to the facts.

If Huawei has a choice then 100% it will make its models remainned compatible with ARCore.
Regardless of geopolitics, or your negative attitude, the fact remains that this is not a situation of Niantic's doing, and they will act according to the best interests and largest support-share for their products.
If Huawei is a significant share of the phones used in their games, they may look at adapting the Portal Scanning tool.
No, you are obviously cooking up a rumor by saying "Huawei has decided to block Google's ARCore module" which is in contrary to the truth, the truth exactly relevant to geopolitics. If you're wrong, admit it, rather than splitting "geopolitics" and start criticizing me of alleged "negative attitude". You are wrong not because of my opinion or "belief", you are wrong according to the matter of fact.
Plus nobody here was saying something like "it's a situation of Niantic's doing". It is a FEATURE REQUEST not a BUG REPORT.
Which means, some players think that it would be better IF Niantic would consider adding some additional support.
It's not "Because Niantic didn't add support and thus we cannot do portal scanning" complaints.
Maybe you shall refrain from starting from your "again, not a Niantic's fault" narratives as usual.
Update: More Huawei phones have been added to "Android (China)" compatible list now, though not "Android (Google Play)" list, which means if Niantic would like to make them able to use portal scanning it's techinically possible
Though they should have been added to "Android (Google Play)" list back in 2019/Apr.
Obviously it was Google banning them previously, not "Huawei has decided to block Google's ARCore module" as coined by someone here.
You made your point with the first post.
It looks like the devices are capable if they download "Google Play Services for AR" based on the link.
Folks, what you are discussing here? I have Asked to be able to use the Huawei AR, which has the same functionality as Google Services for AR, for Portal Scan function in Ingress. It is just suggestion to developers - please add support of Huawei ar library to Ingress the same as Google Services for AR. No any politics, duscussion who and what banned.
Some devices, are not certified for Google arcore, otherwise have huawei ar library onboard.
Ingress and Niantic Lightship uses Google AR core.
Niantic will not be using Huawei AR.
However some Huawei devices are compatible with Google AR core. Best to invest in a mobile that supports Google AR Core. Which I know is not a popular idea for a lot of players.
Mid-range Sammy devices are compatible, and are just as effective as last year's flagships. And have more sensors than other brands.
