        <title>Broken ingress account</title>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>So, towards the end of the double AP event I requested assistance on getting an apex replaced because of a glitch pulling a second one out of my inventory and giving me the time for one. Fast forward to the issue "being resolved."</p><p>August 15th, I get a DM from a friend and asks if I deleted my account. I said no and went to log in. I see a message about my item being returned, then the app force closed. Put in the credentials in the sign I'm process, then a screen popped up about agreeing to the terms and conditions. I read them and agreed, clicked on, then an error screen. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same pop ups happened. I reached out to a few other agents and they asked if my account was terminated, I said I didn't request it. So I put in as many things as I could to try and figure out what happened. Was I banned without notice? And for what? I don't spoof, don't bot, etc. Did Ingress terminate my account? If so, why? I was and had a core subscription active and nearing the next month's payment. </p><p>So, after all that and no immediate answer I waited. All things I had done: resos, mods, links all had been removed from the game, and wasn't able to be pinged. Me also knowing I was the only fighting to keep links up so Machina couldn't cross certain areas, knew everything was in serious and quick trouble. </p><p>The responses start coming in like, do you remember your name? Your sign in info? Etc. Yes. Can you reproduce this bug? Yes, every time. After those waves of responses over the first day or so, everything gets escalated to research/care teams, etc. So they can figure out what happened. Several more days go by with no answers, no successful log in, nothing. The day of my subscription renewal is here, no account to use. So I cancel. A couple more days of silence, I said whatever you've done is probably irreversible to fix at this point. </p><p>(8/26) I get an email saying my account is back up, and am excited to see if everything has been returned to what it was. </p><p>What I get (see attached images of gear and level). All resos and links not restored, my lockers emptied and gone, my capsules all missing including the items inside them, all my gear, my AP is in the negatives, my level is incorrect. Oh, but I now have 2000 bursters.... <p>Update: a few days later my account gets "fixed" one empty key locker is added, a few caps and k caps are present, but also empty, I still have 2000 bursters, my level and AP have been fixed. </p><p>Still no answer as to what they did, still no full recovery of my account, still no restoration of resos, mods, and links before this happened. I feel like this isn't "fair" or "fun" experience violating their own model. I refuse to do anything in game until this is resolved, and also feel I should be compensated for this monumental **** up. Am I wrong?</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>I would like to request Ingress to support the collection and submission of <em>additional</em> data to help identify one's gameplay fairness, including but not limiting to:</p><ul><li>Photos/Video clips captured using the camera of the scanner device</li><li>GPS tracks with much refined resolution</li><li>Voice recordings during the player's gameplay activities</li><li>Wi-Fi access-points(SSID/BSSID) and their signal strengths</li><li>Bluetooth beacons and their signal strengths</li><li>Data generated from the various sensors on the scanner device(acceleration, etc.)</li><li>Other data that may correlate to the specific locations where the gameplay activities taking place.</li></ul><p>This data should be send when the player has convenient network access, players failed to send such data in a reasonable duration should be limited/throttled.</p><p>When possible, such data should be reviewable by the player community(like in Wayfarer) to catch invalid/spoofed data after removing personal identifiable information(like personal hotspots that may contain the player's legal name).  Other players can have the ability to request a certain player to submit such data to Niantic when such player is active in any activity in a certain geolocation in game, but the submission should only be reviewable after a certain period to avoid doxxing.</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>I bought new iPhone last weekend, installed Ingress and PoGo, created account the same day and I got 1st strike on next day. I checked all my phone application and setting, I logged in again yesterday and it shows my account has been suspended by my 3rd party tool. I do not have any. I didn't understand why it happened and requested account review then NIA replied only Player Guideline site link.</p><p>Then I sent movie showing my application list l have installed and Ingress login action to get further information what to be checked then they replied,</p><p>"We apologize for the earlier response. As mentioned in our previous response, our decision to temporarily suspend your account is final. We cannot provide any additional support regarding this account."</p><p>Many of my friends got the same situation this year.</p><p>E-mail above does not help anything for Ingress beginners. Because support center does not support and help center does not provide any help, my account was born to die only after account creation completed. Hope NIA write more clearly and specifically on help page and let support member's action more infomative if they alive.</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>I am posting here to reach out to the community to see if I am alone in this.</p><p>I was banned yesterday after years and years of gameplay. I absolutely love Ingress and the community. I have invested hours of gameplay, paid for the premium account and never received a single strike or warning.</p><p>My scanner suddenly lost connection and on restarting is stuck on the login screen.</p><p>My intel map says account suspended.</p><p>A support member upon submitting a ban appeal simply said account terminated. Desision final.</p><p>They won't reply to me, what am I supposed to do??? What could possibly be so bad as to be instant banned and ghosted? Is this normal? What about the money invested in premium currency on there?</p><p>I can't even describe how gutted I am. How can people be treated so coldly?</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>I started a new account this week and thought it would be best to be involved in the community after I had an earlier account get suspended. I was playing and having a lot of fun challenging my opponents in the area. I had a couple days off and some time to plan on  ways to get some MUs in my area. I found a good opportunity to **** a link from a military base since I have access to it and a remote lighthouse which was an Anchor for a large control field that took a lot of planning to get to. The lighthouse was quite hard to get to so I took pictures to prove I actually made it to this portal. I was able to take down this portal at the lighthouse and **** my link essentially cutting the town in half. I was thrilled I was able to pull it off.  Then the next day I went to access the app and it would not open. I went to access the Ingress map and my account was suspended. I submitted an appeal and never received a response. I could have provided any proof needed or required. Any advice how I should do things differently with my new account?</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>Opposite faction keeps removing legit portal, this happenes 5-6th time already. Portal has safe access and does not violate any rule. To do so, we will be adding additional Wayspots in India in the upcoming weeks. </p><p>These Wayspots will begin to show up on our map as soon as November 1, 2023 and added in waves in the weeks to come. While these Wayspots won’t contain images, they will contain a Pokéstop image in Pokémon GO and a blank image in all other games in which they sync to while photos are contributed to these Wayspots. We are excited to see our Explorers in India add their photos and show us their local community through Wayspot photo contributions. As with our previous Wayspot additions, we took your feedback about quality into consideration and audited these Wayspots to ensure that they meet our criteria.         <description><![CDATA[<p>Since I can't report a player using the traditional method, I'll try it here.</p><p>I would like to report a player who we have tried talking to in person and via Messenger. We had pointed out to him several times that he should not play with multiple accounts. Instead, he keeps creating more and more and that's why we would like to report this player. Even though he's been around for a long time, he doesn't understand how the game works or doesn't want to show any insight. We also pointed out to him that we would report him if he did not allow multi-accounting. He was observed on-site portals being heavily occupied with at least 5-6 accounts.         <title>Proposal for a better Machina strategy</title>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>This is a rewrite of something that is buried in comments.</p><p>I've been thinking about how I would implement Machina in a way that makes it valuable and interesting without being a nuisance, and I have the nucleus of a proposal.  I am quite certain that there are some holes in the details but the principles feel pretty sound to me, at least for an initial draft.</p><p>My goals with this strategy:</p><ul><li>Give players who are alone in an area an opponent</li><li>Minimize the risk of Machina becoming an annoyance in areas with active players</li><li>Allow players in active areas the ability to fight against Machina if they want to</li></ul><p>Let's start with some concepts.  Machina strategies would be defined for an area on a per-septicycle basis.  I'm not sure what S2 cell size I would use to define "an area" but probably something around L12.  An area is active if a player of each faction has made at least one in-person change to the playfield in the area during a septicycle, or more than N players of a single faction have done so.  I'm not sure what N would be because I don't have access to Niantic's data but it's probably countable on the fingers of one hand.</p><p><strong>Concept #1:  Machina may always capture grey portals.  </strong>This should be done at a leisurely rather than an aggressive pace.</p><p><strong>Concept #2:  Machina may only link in an area that has no active players.  </strong>This is the rule that reduces the annoyance of Machina linking randomly and blocking the ability of players to link and field.  Like captures, Machina links should be done at a leisurely pace.  As soon as a player becomes active in that area Machina is prohibited from linking during the rest of the septicycle and the one following it.</p><p><strong>Concept #2a:  Machina may link across area boundaries, but only into another inactive area.</strong></p><p><strong>Concept #3:  In an area with only one active player, or a small number of players of a single faction, Machina can destroy any portal that is more than 50% decayed.</strong>  For players in an otherwise inactive area this would allow them to have Machina become the opposing faction and give them something to do, but it would allow players to protect their portals by keeping them recharged.</p><p>That's the core of my proposal.  In writing this up I think it could be improved by using the eight adjacent cells as a modifier for defining active.  If there are a small number of Enlightened players in one cell but no Resistance players, and a neighboring cell has a small number of Resistance players but no Enlightened then both cells could be considered active because competition is available a short distance away.</p><p>To me this seems better than what we had before and it feels like it is more likely to address the concerns and needs of people who enjoy Machina as an opponent and also those who are frustrated by its aggressive linking. The strange things is.that during the superposition event, the fake and the field was immediately banned and recovered. Now that the event end, no more support from Nia, and the procedure get very longer and now a fake is not banned from 24 hour. Can I ask explanation? Why this can happen? What was not included in public reports was that scientists discovered a new form of matter, dubbed Exotic Matter or XM. Scientists realized XM was ordered data, not random, and seemed to encode messages of some kind.</p><p>A government organization known as the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) was tasked with investigating this XM signal. Identify its origins, purpose, and any applications. What they found was that XM wasn’t only present at the LHC, but it also collected near sites of cultural and historical significance. They found references in historical texts that referred to these places as “Power Spots” or “Portals.”</p><p>These places of cultural and historical significance where XM pooled attracted people and anomalous or inexplicable events. The NIA’s hypothesis was that XM influenced people’s thoughts and actions, and had been doing so throughout human history. When people spent time at these locations, they seemed affected by XM or their proximity to the Portals, becoming more creative, or more thoughtful/introspective, or more empathetic. </p><p>Fast forward to 2012, the NIA brought together a group of 13 researchers to study XM, and study its effects on the human mind. The NIA handpicked these 13 researchers because this specific group of people were particularly sensitive to the effects of XM. </p><p>While trying to harness or contain XM within a container object, the Power Cube used to store XM overloaded and exploded, accidentally exposing the Niantic Project researchers to massive amounts of XM. The NIA dubbed this event “Epiphany Night.” </p><p>Some of these XM Sensitives exhibited signs of uncomfortable optimism and wanted to shield themselves from outside influences, while others embraced the unknown and wanted to find ways to harness potentially new knowledge. These leanings formed the 2 Factions: The Resistance believe XM is a hostile takeover of the human mind. They seek to defend humanity from this unknown outside influence or Shaper ingression. The Enlightened believe humans can learn from XM and decrypt this Shaper message to evolve humanity to new heights.</p><p>Attempting to hide from the NIA, 2 researchers fled the Niantic Project in the chaos that ensued following Epiphany Night. 1 (Roland Jarvis) was assassinated at the Zürich Hauptbahnhof. 1 (Devra Bogdanovich) was able to escape, but lost her phone in the process. </p><p>The Ingress mobile app, used by NIA researchers to discover XM and Portals and interact with XM objects was installed on this phone. Before the lost phone could be retrieved, its contents were shared and distributed online. Knowing Pandora’s box had been opened and the Ingress app was now public knowledge, the NIA chose to call Ingress a “real world video game” and allow users to download it from Google and Apple app stores.</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Element 1:</strong>  Machina should only spawn in regions where there are active players.  If there has been <strong>no players</strong> acting in a given region cell, no new linking or spawning occurs. Eventually it will die out if no-one players there, and leave the area clear.</p><p>This is useful for big fields across regions not being blocked in areas where there are no players.</p><p><strong>Element 2: </strong>Machina should not spawn new root nodes beyond a maximum level, per regional cell. For example if the maximum root nodes was 10, then <strong>once there are 10 spawned root nodes, no new Machina portals will spawn.</strong>  As long as there's player activity in the cell, it can continue to spread from those root nodes, and splitting a tree in half doesn't mean two "root nodes", since the roots of those trees were infected by links.</p><p>This would allow players to pen in and control Machina in regions that don't want growth, but woudl require active maintenance to keep the fences up.  Essentially, you'd have 10 corrals in a region that would control the spread, and the occasional saboteur who breaks the fences to let Machina out.</p><p>If you cleared out every child of a given root node (connected to it or not) and the node itself, a new node would spawn somewhere in the cell in the next wave.</p>]]>

        <title>Machina is just killing player engagement.</title>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>So, if I wanted to go throw some casual fields I no longer can.</p><p>Even moderate size urban fields are requiring hour plus clearing time due to Machina.</p><p>If I do, then an enemy player kills the field, Machina rapidly starts adding blockers.</p><p>What used to be fun, casual play now is becoming a moderate op every time.</p><p>Others on the team are expressing similar thoughts.  Machina just sucks the fun out of the game, fighting a bot is just not engaging.</p>]]>
