My wife and son were also there. My wife had not played ingress in more than a month. She may have opened the scanner and hacked a portal earlier in the day but that was about it.

When she attacked the CAL restricted portal it was fine. No CAL message. She destroyed the portal and I could then capture the portal without a CAL issue.

Issues

Why could I attack a portal 50m away from the CAL portal and still get a CAL block?

What does an agent do if they already have an uncleared ticket (like me) and hit the CAL issue?

Why are old tickets not getting cleared? Is there anything agents can do this clear resolved tickets?

Why do I, who has played almost everyday for the past few months get a CAL block while my wife who has not played for the last few months may except may be an odd hack not get a CAL issue?

Possible Solution

Niantic has a lot of information about me. Recursed twice, 167M lifetime AP, 60 (real) mission days, 42 (real) NL events, 16 anomalies on the ground (excluding BB only anomalies) among others. These stats, should be enough to confirm I am a real agent. The fact that I regularly play all around the world (having completed a MD in each continent) should be obvious if CAL is based on historical agent data.

Even if this was not the case I had been peeling the BAF inside out for a good 15+ layers without a problem. The last portal only ~50 meters away from the second last portal should not be a problem. If I was doing this by myself it would have been a 4+ hour drive (one way) wasted.

This is no more frustrating than driving 4+ hours to put up a field only have it killed by a fake agent. In my experience majority of BAFs were not spoofed down. But from my sample of one, evey/most legitimate attackers are getting hit wit a CAL block.

It seems the CAL approach has just shifted the frustration from builders to attackers. More than that an occasional frustration for builders have turned in to a guaranteed frustration to attackers.

I suggest Niantic establish some sort of hard-to-achieve, secret (if do desired) base line profile (eg. recursed, X in-person events, over a 100M+ AP etc) where the CAL restriction does not apply. Otherwise you are going to end up with lots of very frustrated agents.

I am happy to provide additional detail if needed.

Other players can have the ability to request a certain player to submit such data to Niantic when such player is active in any activity in a certain geolocation in game, but the submission should only be reviewable after a certain period to avoid doxxing.

Thus we nead a way to be able to fight Machina, at our level, with wepons that are competitive.

My idea would be to be able to fight Machina portals with the drone, though it can walk only 600 meter for now.

So without adding buttons or actions in the UI, one way could be that a perfect glyph hack sequence on a Machina Portal would make it decay of 5%, and eventually annihilate it.

It would help also low level players in city who are facing quickly to a penury of busters against Machina portals (I encounter this with my recursion).

About drone jump, that would be nice to fix the nearby portals algorithm that still shows keys we have in inventory instead of close portals, and then be able to jump to nearby portals farther than 800 meters, but that's another question.

Thanks you in advance to take this new gameplay request into consideration.

It should also be visible only within the set view-distance of the Activities tab.

Please can we get some in-app ways of managing keys?

Primarily, being able to map the keys on a map, or sort by zip code, s2 cell, or town or something.

It would aid recycling to be able to mass select keys near a certain town.

I've known more players to quit ingress because of key management and hoarding to eventually paralyze the actions of recruits, then any other source, also putting the game down and finding everything half health a few days later, doesn't help.

Ideally when doing maintenance recharging, you want to be able to conserve your xm for portals you care about. Being able to star or favourite keys(would actually favourite the portal, so when the key is reacquired it would be starred still), would allow you to keep them charged.

Being able to tag them would bring more flexibility, but would be a fair amount of extra Dev work, so it's a nice to have, not a "we needed this 5 years ago"

Being able to take a snapshot of your keys status, and sorting by the snapshotted status would be handy too. If it was made clear to the user, that the filter is based on the snapshot, and not live data, then you could easily sort by faction or health, even if you need to put limits on it to 100 keys at a time to prevent server issues, or even if the feature is intentionally nerfed / disabled during anomaly events. An 80% solution is all we need to have a massive Quality of Life improvement, and I don't accept the opinion that it needs to be a perfect feature or that server load is too great. It's possible to overcome with some clever design work / limitations. You could even pitch it as a "recharge queue" where only close and relevant keys are shown at the time the queue chunk is processed, like how infinite scrolling works 'imperfectly' for comments on YouTube or tweets. E.g. show me favourites first, sorted by distance, that match my faction, that aren't at full health.

Being able to mark a key as "let decay" would be critical too, so less thought is required when bulk recharging daily.

Some more radical changes that would aid key management *indirectly* :

With the radical changes to machina, maybe the relationship new players have with maintenance recharging should be examined, and a better ruleset for when link drops could be enacted.

Imagine if resos never died fully, like machina, but the links dropped when Reso health becomes critical, *or* when less then 3 resonators remain.

It would enable both blue and green to better prevent machina in areas, by just unique dropping Reso, whilst giving new players something to ****: low level faction resonators that the keys have been long recycled.

Megafielders could let the links decay, without losing a linkable anchor, giving more flexibility, if they time things right, which if spotted by the enemy team, blockers could go up on the scheduled decay time in response.

I know there's a thread back in 2019 discussing this, but I want to resurrect it, because I believe it's a simple request. Let me hide missions in my profile. The only way to see the badge again is to redo the mission, at which point it's unhidden and inserted at the beginning of the mission list, just like it works now.

This need resurfaced recently for me. I have 907 missions under my belt. One banner has been unfinished for several years because a portal was inaccessible when I did the banner and I found out too late. It's nagged at me, like a pebble in my shoe, all this time, but I've done plenty of banners since then so I stopped thinking about it so much. And then, last month, it happened again. First portal of the second mission was inaccessible due to construction. So now all but 12 of my missions are misaligned. Grrr.

I realize that the holy grail is to be able to edit the mission section of the profile, allowing the user to hide, restore, and rearrange missions. That would be nice. But being able to hide a mission is good enough. Please.

I belive that Machina was added to encourage players to visit some new places. However the outcome is a bit different, many agents started to rage quit due to red links appearing everywhere, ignoring existing links, and staying undead on 5% ruining gameplay especially in more rural areas.

My point is that agents are forced to deal with machina in order to continue their usual gameplay. Today instead of only complaining I would like to discuss possible changes in machina mechanics.

Let's start with changing machina from "black mist ruination corruption virus" into something similar to pokemon raids. What if machina spawn rate would be significantly reduced, but the red portals harder to ****. Red portals could have some passive shield making them a bit stronger.

Then change loot from trash mods and resonators into something more valuable, I am talking about pink mods. I would more likely travel to pop some reds knowing that I am not forced to go there to free myself from red cage, but encouraged by a valuable drop.

Next point I would change the way it spreads in addition to slowing growth, it should corrupt the closest neutral portal instead of random portal 4km away. This way we will have actual machina nests instead of random red links piercing cities ruining gameplay. Nowadays the most annoying thing machina is doing are red undead "flowers", one p8 portal and ~12 links to red portals in 4km radius. Red portals should be more grouped, not every agent has car and infinite supply of time and fuel to drive araound entire town in order to clear them.

Then what if we add new very rare portal mod called inhibitor, stoping machina spread in 1% of linking radius of portal where inhibitor is deployed. Only way to acuire said mod is to pick it up from popped machina portal.

And at last, what if machina started following rules of linking and stopped making links crossing already existing blue and green links.

Let's sum up. My idea is to change machina from forced feature that agents have to deal with in order to play to optional treasure hunt which will not affect nor ruin gameplay of agents not so interested in PvE.

Ps. Maybe a little medal or two for dealing with machina, just saying.

Would be cool if we could do a poll...

I personally would like to use some of the beacons and fireworks but keep some amount separately so I wouldn't use them (yet) accidentally.

Hitting AP targets is often awkward because of the maths involved in knowing which actions you need to restrict yourself to when you get close. Agents often miss their targets by accidentally reaching an AP score closer to their target than the lowest amount of AP available for a single action (which used to be 10AP for a single recharge action; now I think it's 50 AP for getting a single glyph correct in a failed glyph hack sequence)

Is it possible to add a 1AP action for the Vanity AP chasers?

Niantic, could you increase the number of missions we are allowed to author?

Currently it is 180.

Many people are mission enthusiasts; They love nothing more in ingress than doing missions.

But only a few devoted agents create the vast majority of high quality missions.

And just when they get good at making missions, they hit their limit. Some stop making missions. But the devote have 2 options

unpublish old missions to make space for new ones. or

ask their friends to donate inactive ingress accounts to make missions under their agent name

None of these are good options. I go with (1) and unpublish live missions to make space to submit new ones. And then when someone asks, I republish old ones, but have to unpublish something else. It makes for a lot of bureaucracy of niantic reviewing the same missions over and over, and updating websites/documents with which missions are currently live.

I like to do missions more than make them, but I've done all the missions in my area and can't travel to other counties/states to do them due to the pandemic. Now would be a great time to make missions from home.

We, the people that make missions, would like substantially more mission authoring slots.

Ideally uncapped and if thats too much, make a nomination quota like portal nominations.

If you unlock our potential, it will breath new life into ingress for mission goers.

I am proposing to add a new medal which will award players for submitting cheater reports and Niantic not doing anything useful and the cheaters continuing to cheat afterward. The medal can be called "Fighter for fair play". This will act as a reimbursement for time the player wasted on gathering the relevant information and submitting the report. This will also point out Niantic's failure in banning the cheaters and nudge them in the direction of doing better in the future.

The logic can work as follows:

Player reports a cheater using the report abuse / cheating process.

Niantic closes the report claiming that they have carefully reviewed the report and have taken action where appropriate.

X days after the report was closed the cheater continues to cheat. X can be time allotted to queue up the cheater to be banned and eventually process the ban.

The player gets +1 to the medal counter if the cheater continues to cheat.

[Optional] Once the player reaches the Onyx tier of the medal, automatically ban all cheater accounts the played had submitted.

To Niantic: After you've read this, put yourself in a player's shoes who keeps trying to eliminate cheating in their area, and read this again. Makes sense?
