I don’t think that would happen and if it did, it would break the game. I feel the purpose of dronenet is to help prevent agents from losing their hack streak on their Sojourner.
Feature, yes. But it defeats the whole purpose of the game. Ingress is a game that can be played in so many different ways based on ones play style. Some go crazy after mission banners, some go nuts over BAFs, some enjoy starbursts or making field arts.
What a tease. One of my most missed Redacted features was the ability to quickly portal hop via the navigate button while throwing local fields. The drone could have been used to bring us closer to the redacted feature parity we were once promised.
The drone has potential to be a great tool for recon. Any chance we can upgrade to a drone model that isn’t many times slower than a typical player’s walking speed? Why not allow unrestricted portal hopping while restricting hacks to 1 per hour?
Erm.... as you can only hack one portal once an hour and can only jump to a portal within visible range and not do anything else, how is this akin to spoofing and defeating the purpose of the game? It's use is so severely limited it's not game-breaking at all. It cannot deploy, upgrade or mod a portal. It cannot link. It cannot fire bursters. It won't enable you to remote recharge a portal without having a key to it, and you can't hack keys with it.
Since Drone can't hack keys and it's hacks don't count towards the explorer badge, I find lame the restriction to 1 movement per hour.
If the thought was for people (who don't have a HP), not to refill their inventory legitimate from their couch comfort, they could have make the drone's hack output -50% or more.
An okay addition to the game? but with all it's function restrictions, I don't really see any use for it.

I can spoof and flip a portal now?
EDIT: I guess I still have to be near it.
I hope we will get drones that can destroy and link, or this feature will be a dud.

It would add features to the game. Gameplay is already highly repetitive and stagnate.

I disagree that allowing the player to interact with a portal out of normal action range would "break the game".

Ah, yes, so I can get the achievement rewarded for putting forth the effort to do a given thing, from the comfort of my couch.
This drone feature _in its current incarnation_ defeats a large part of the purpose of the game.
Anyone else find it highly ironic Niantic recently clarified using physical drones to carry a phone is spoofing, before adding legitimized spoofing?
Basically what I see is Dronenet is a way to preserve Sojourner. I'm glad that they have decided to limit it only to hack.
Sounds like a lot of the comments haven’t even used the feature or understand it.
There's already a way. Walk to a portal.
But what about us that have no portals nearby)
The nearest portal is about one 1KM away and the Scanner does not cover so long distance.
The drone isn't meant to replace you. If that were the case then this becomes a couch mobile game and not an AR game.
THen go there and drop your drone there and go home again.

So,this is Mark I. Interesting, will a paid Mark II be added with more features.
Did not think of that 😀, but i got lucky and could just reach the portal 👍
I've just tested this and drone hacks do NOT count towards sojourner! I've put a bug report in the app feedback section as this does not match the description at https://niantic.helpshift.com/a/ingress/?s=top-articles&f=how-do-i-deploy-drone-mark-i&l=en&p=web
It's simple. Are you physically at the location or not?
I’ve noticed that it counts as a separate stat on your profile now for Unique Portals Drone Visited.
Hoping that this ties to a new badge related to it to encourage using it.
It seems like a useless feature 😂 I can't think about any use for it.
Sojourner for those that cant hack from home
If they're within scanner range of a portal, they can already go for a walk.
That's good to know. Thanks for letting us know! :)
Furthest Drone Flight (calculated from its initial Target Portal)
Is it the distance between the first and the last portal or the total distance traveled from the drone?
In the first case it will be limited by the city (you need around 500 Meters between every two portals).
In the second case you can move the drone between two portals all the time.
It seems the max deployment range from one portal to another seems to be 600m. Meaning you still need to actually go to remote portals to deploy it.

"You can attack portals to force return agents drones."
Why? Where is the strategic value in blocking a next to useless feature? Rob that one guy of a Lv 8 burster per hour?
Yeah I have one portal in drone range, so I had to go to a nearby town and deploy it to start my Unique Drone visits.
I'm really enjoying it, doing a jump every time I see the yellow dot. Would love to see a Drone Badge for Drone Visits.
