Truthseekers, we have recovered some intriguing new piece of intel! Congratulations to the RES for scoring 5 pts. Thank you to the ENL hunters as well for virtually racing through Washington DC. There is still more to come, our world still depends on all of you.
I was notified that this following passage in the rules provided alternate interpretations:
"The 2 Factions will START their mission from different routes as well. In short, both Factions will be able to gain 2pts respectively when they complete their starting route..."
After some deliberation with the involved deciding parties, the Tethered Hand has adjusted the score-gained to RES 5 : ENL 2 . As the former passage could imply that the completion of the starting route will grant 2pts. Two physical Tessera Schubert will be issued, one to the RES First Discoverer, one for the first ENL Discoverer to complete the Schubert route. As for the Placement Prediction priorities, Tessera Calvin will go to the RES First Discoverer. Tessera Schubert will be a case where both RES & ENL Discoverers will have to compete in a Pop quiz during the verification. The first Agent to provide the correct answer and Placement wins 1 pt.
The Tethered Hand will be taking closer measures in the future to provide more waterproofed rules
As usual, there is only one discover qualifying for the Prediction in a certain Live Drop. We RES solved the Schubert route first, so it's unfair that ENL will have the same Prediction qualification.
Dear Dr.PAC, since I'm an Enlightened agent, I say for only myself and not for my faction 'cause I'm not certain that I can represent the majority:
It's UNFAIR and FOOLISH of T.H. to give Enl the extra points and prediction right of Schubert.
Fair game, fair results. No "mercy" points. I do hope Enl to get more points and finally win, but not in this way. I believe that many agents, no matter their factions, feels awful about this scores added.
What about try to advice T.H. to creat a more sample rule that can "balance" the score rather than to simply add extra points to the Disadvantaged faction after the result comes?
Or are the T.H. really creating chaos and want we two factions to have more battle before the Tessellation ends?
What's more, the rule of tessera hunting is becoming more and more difficult. I dont think it's a good thing.
Global Drop -> Global Redeem (I know It's because the COVID-19, but it become more difficult since the passcodes is disposable and limited.) -> Global Redeem with Decoding( a ROT47, for example.)
Live Drop -> Decoding(the influence of COVID-19) -> Quiz? and Decoding -> Chain Decoding
Believe me, not all, let's say even not the majority, of Ingress player group have much interest in decoding. Before it's #MoreThanAGame, it IS a game.
Imho this is the result of overcomplicating things. Why do we need to decode, redeem, make screenshots, include media links and all? What's next? Taking videos of ourselves entering the codes while dancing around the table backwards? (While it would be fun to see those videos for sure :D) – I think there are better ways to include more players ;)
I really love the idea of combining mass/lore knowledge and decoding to bring folks together, but: Please, be a bit more straightforward with the rules: If it's a drop challenge, whoever posts it first wins. If it's a decoding challenge just look into the database who redeemed it first. Simple as that.
Personally I begin to lose interest to continue participating in the tesselation event, if the rules continue to become more and more obscure. Many of us are putting a lot of time and effort into this, so it would be cool, if at least the parameters for winning the thing would be unambiguously set in advance.
Unfortunately the rules were not clear. They appeared to say that each faction gets 2 points if they successfully decode their puzzle, plus the first faction to complete both wins an extra point. In addition, the rules do not say you have to post the Tessera; they only mention posting the Project file. So this bit is confusing as well.
The nature of this game was such that both puzzles were essentially similar, and once you got to the third point it told you where the other path starts. So while you stare at the last step to work out what it wants you to do, you can send someone off to collect the intel from the other path, and thus it's possible to have both completed at roughly the same time, or at least within a couple of minutes of each other. So in retrospect this game was always highly likely to be worth 9 points to the winner (5 for discovery and 4 for placement), and for such a high-stakes game we need clear rules.
Enlightened dropped the ball here, I'm sorry to say, and thus in some sense don't deserve to get the points. But on the other hand, we were working under the impression that the Tessera was worth 2 points regardless of what the other team did. (And since the rules don't mention posting the Tessera, ENL spent many minutes not even looking for it - that was another dropped ball in retrospect.) Wishful thinking here, but I like to think we'd have spotted the passcode a bit sooner if we had been looking at Calvin instead of Schubert, simply because of how the two codes were split.
However, fair play to RES - you were faster than us by quite some way, and we need to up our game for the next one.
Small correction. Total point count would've been 7, split like this:
2 points for first faction claiming Schubert LD (using the lore screenshot, faction text and media link)
2 points for first faction claiming Calvin LD (using the lore screenshot, faction text and media link)
1 point for first faction solving both puzzles
1 point for correct prediction Schubert (prediction right given to faction claiming Schubert LD first)
1 point for correct prediction Calvin (prediction right given to faction claiming Calvin LD first)
The screenshots (+ media links) of the lore media are not Tesserae. I assume the rules were chosen this way to have the lore media become public domain, and not have it hidden behind layers of OPSEC.
The rules state: In short, both Factions will be able to gain 2pts respectively when they complete their starting route.
After solving the baselevel decoding puzzle each faction has a chance of winning 2 points for their Tessera. It's not set in stone. It clearly states: "will be able to gain", and not: "will gain". As it's a livedrop event, the first faction solving the puzzle and claiming the Tessera wins it, as well as being granted the exclusive first-prediction rights.
Let's say for the sake of arguement somebody reads "will be able to gain" as "will gain". Does that imply both factions have equal prediction rights? When talking about normal Tesserae yes, but this is a livedrop event. There is only one winner. The solve times speak for themselves; the outcome wasn't close...
I fully agree with @uditaren 's post. The altering of points for this livedrop event (as well as some others from the past) are a direct effect from constantly changing the rules. Instead of the straight-forward "first to post screenshot + faction text wins", it has evolved in a way that's very obscure and difficult to understand. Like @uditaren and many others choices like this are making me lose interest in the event.
If anything the alteration of points remind me of the Oprah show: "You get points, and you get points, and you all get points!". 🙄
Today or sometime former the APAC Community Manager,@NianticHilda@NianticHilda mentioned in her comment of a post in Wechat platform that Niantic (let's say the T.H?) wanted to set a rule that makes the score 3:2(Each faction get 2 pts whatever and one faction get 1 pt for first finish one route), but as most of agents misunderstand the rule they added 2 pts toRES and made it 5:2.
