I've scanned and uploaded a few. Having fun trying to figure out best way to scan an entire church. Can I use a drone to circle and photo then some how encode and upload that please? :D
For info even though you "film" as you circle the portal it actually seems to just take a series of photos - so I imagine it could be possible to allow a series of photos from other cameras etc.. later.
I'm based in France and have access to portal scanning. Not sure where else its rolled out to yet
Ya escuchado casos que están sacando la medalla escaneando 1 portal , Nia no penso en esa situación antes? Debiera ser Max 3 escaneo por portal y agente espero que vean ese problema.
Already heard cases that are taking the medal scanning 1 portal, Nia not thought. In that situation before? It should be max 3 scan by portal and agent hope you see that problem.
I also noticed that you don't have to let the progress bar circle all the way around before stopping and uploading a scan. But it seemed very cheap to stop a scan after only a second and upload 12 frames. Generally I try to walk at least halfway around the object each time.
I did some scans today and returned home to upload and noticed these
A) There is no indication of the upload process
B) There is no indication of how many scans are pending to be uploaded
C) My app had some frequent crashes, when I was uploading. Will the crashed uploads continue, restart allover, or they'll be lost for good?
We need indications, we can't do this blindly @NianticBrian
On the bright side it seems it doesn't require to be screen on, I noticed that the upload continues, even if my device is locked (at least we are not getting our devices overheated for this).
Hello, It is supposed that portal scanning is available for all agents Lvl12+; i'm currently 13, but I don'tk know why the scan portal option doesn't show up for any portal to me, anyone knows why this is happening?
I came here to post the same thing. Came home to upload 9 of them and took close to 30 minutes and I've got pretty decent internet. Would love to do one or two at a time and have an actual progress bar of some sort. Though, even just doing one at a time would be super helpful.
This is a very extreme example, but since Niantic said they want as many scans as possible to build an accurate model of the POI, they would welcome multiple scans of the same portal from an agent.
I’m on lockdown at the moment and only allowed out to exercise, I thought about scanning 10 portals 5 times each to get my bronze while on a walk. I’ll have to test it out and see if it only accepts the latest scan of a portal before uploading.
An agent scanning one portal 6,000 times seems a bit abusive of the system, but would give NIA a very accurate model to work with.
I would assume if there are an excessive amount of scans of a portal completed by agent(s), they may just not accept any more scans for that specific portal.
For C, the scans will just try again if they fail the first time. I tried uploading 30 scans at once, and after the first failure message my scan total had gone up by six. After starting the upload process again, the other 24 went though and I was given credit for all 30. They really should have a progress bar or a "X out of Y scans uploaded" counter to get an idea of what progress is being made.
I missing 3 scans from my badge counter, so something had gone wrong, but that was before the update to 2.43.4... When this patch came, the whole upload process, started working faster, with no issues at all.
No agent in my area or location use Portal Scanning when they dont care about only 3D picture in Prime and I think more agents use it when Niantic show how 3D pictures works in Prime in video.
Anyone else baffled by the size(mb) of each scan...? By the time you're done with 6000 scans, you would have uploaded over 1.3TB of video data. And that in-itself is a bigger task for some of the agents out there.

I hope nobody try to do all in one, and help the game community and do it in all portals possibles.
The more scans on a single Portal the better I believe.
each scan is bound to capture more and more (different) detail

6000
i doubt u can reach onyx scanning just one portal....
Why not?
Okay, I'm only joking. But the feature does require multiple scans on the same portal. The only question is... how many is sufficient? Ten? 50? 100?
I've been uploading about 8-10 scans per portal, varying the distance, height, and angle of my phone each time.
Hi @NianticBrian, I sent 200 scans successfully, but the medal only counts 142 😔, please indicate what was wrong? thanks.
maybe once a certain portal has got enough data from enough users it will be disabled to add more scans?
I've wondered about that possibility, too.

Hola @NianticBrian e tenido problemas al cargar los portales se me a descontado más de 100 y no suman
En las imágenes aparece como se descuenta cada vez que aparece error
You can. We have an agent in our community who had the bronze medal scanning his couch portal while on lockdown.
This is easy to fix: scan unique portals. Loophole closed 🤷

Your phone isn't compatible.

Only time will tell.

What if the agent do a bad work at every single one of them?
They should imput a limit, like 3 attempts of each portal per week.

Niantic please share video or screenshot how 3D portals from portal scanning look in Ingress Prime.
@NianticBrian @NianticCasey
@NianticBrian share creenshot how 3D portals use in prime. It is somthing we see and use with Battle Bacon or only 3D picture we can look at?
Forget It, man. They're not gonna show beta/unfinished feature just because you is annoying asking everyday.
Just sit and wait the official release/announcement, like everyone else.
No agent in my area or location use Portal Scanning when they dont care about only 3D picture in Prime and I think more agents use it when Niantic show how 3D pictures works in Prime in video.
Then wait.
It's opt-in. It's only for people that want a kick-**** wolf badge
