Yeah. I'm the ONLY one complaining that all phones without magnetometers have broken compasses.
If it were something wrong with my phone, No app would be able to make a compass rotate to point north on a map.
Ingress is the only app that hasn't figured out how to make a north arrow rotate with a map. Works fine on Google earth, Google maps, even pokemon go. Worked fine on redacted too.
Nobody is going to play an exploration game that can't handle basic orientation tasks. That's one of the many reasons why prime didnt attract a new user base, and why so many previously active users did not transition over from redacted.
I have had that issue as well...it jumps to a whole new area and stays there while hacking or destroying an Enemy portal then shoots back to where I am...it gets annoying when i set the xmp off then the avatar shoots across the map and the xmp goes off at the new area...I wouldnt mind if it was a mod applied to a portal defending itself by propelling me away but I know it's not...on certain not antic based games I get the "your going to fast message or are you driving" no game I'm just a fast walker and you can't keep up with me ever few steps.
I've also heard from pogo users that they could have there device just sitting on a bed or side cabinet and the avatar will walk 0.2 (200yds) or more down to the local museum on its own with the map changing as it goes and then walk back to there home location when the user hasn't moved...but I don't mind the user said...it helps unlock my eggs quicker when it does lol
This happened to me and friends too, but it was a problem of the mobile data provider, that werent compatible with 2G or 3G (I dont remember). Now we use 4G and and just a minor bouncing, but only in closed areas.
My mobile/cell provider is one of the biggest in my country and several smaller virtual providers piggy back onto there cell towers just to get a slice of the pie so to say...but they don't cover everywhere that the smaller providers have towers and better coverage...yet I rarely see it drop to 3G/3G+ or even 2G but I have observed it briefly while having signal issues...but I could be in a really strong area when it's jumping around or drifting across the map on 4G or even connected via WIFI.
Please recall that the compass wasn't even present in the first release of Prime, so not "40 updates". (In fact it looks like the compass arrived in update 2.25.2, which I think is the same release that broke alphabetic sorting of portals.) There are some bugs that actually have been around since the first release, such as the COMM-scrolling bug and the fact that it's not possible to tell the difference between not-yet-loaded portals and uncaptured portals in the key carousel.
@ofer2 do you want me to paste it straight into a comment box under this thread here or save it all to a text file to email to you directly ?? Just incase anything in the copy is shrunk or missing or even sensitive to the ingress app.
I was expecting a pop-up box though to say "bug report successful/created or generated" nice secret function though.
I got this error this morning, and when it finally figured itself out, I was about to glyph for a key twice within a 2 minute window on a portal that didn't have a heatsink. Not sure if this is part of a larger issue or not @NianticBrian@ofer2 though you might want to investigate it.
Try disabling high accuracy under location settings I think it is. Helped me some, but it still occurs. It also happens on an older device of mine I tested with. Issue also occurs with pogo. It's an easy way to "hatch" eggs when it's sitting on the charger with screen on wandering around wherever I'm at (house, car, middle of a park, middle of a open parking lot, ect).
Current is S9 w/ Android Pie, latest security updates
Older device: S7 with I'm not even sure anymore what version of Android it has. Battery lasts about 20 minutes before it dies. =)
Interesting Idea,I'll gladly try it out if and when I can get back into my game account on my device working again...thanks for the tip.
My device is a Nokia 7.1 which has gone from Android 8.1 all the way up to 10 with the January 2020 security update so far this is my only device that I can install Ingress Prime to as my older HTC Device Was Android 4.04 and that won't accept any of the Niantic Games sadly.
A) Super insensitive to compare a terror attack which killed someone, to not being allowed to spoof in a computer game. Sheesh.
B) As far as I know, decision to limit use of a tool by Niantic weighs up two things:
Are more legitimate players negatively affected by restricting the tool, than illegitimate players? In this case, no.
Does this change significantly reduce the ability for people to engage in cheating? In this case, yes.
So you can wax lyrical about the safe usage of a hammer all you like but the fact of the matter is, the greater population is in a much better position without TWRP being used by spoofers. The cross section of non-spoofing players using it for other means is slim, albeit clearly loud.
I'm starting to think that @Gersterwind has a poltergeist that inhabits any phone they buy, turning them into lemons. Four different phones and they all make Ingress look like a half-downloaded GIF from the 90s, none have a working compass etc.
hi, since a few months, the Ingress map is based mainly on OpenStreetMaps. The shift was not done for the whole world at the same time. It is possible that your area is now using OpenStreetMaps and maybe the data is not up to date.
You can veryfy that using IITC and choose OpenstreetMaps as opposed to Google Maps for the tiles.
The good news is that you can for free become an OSM contributor and fix the maps. It is collaborative and, in my opinion, rewarding because you do public good.
Out of curiosity do you know which version of the ingress app this change was made to compared to the versions we have now...it would possibly explain why the app went crazy for me through updates...I'm only curious as a possibility until I know for certain via @ofer2
I just hacked a farm portal while recycling keys to recharge other portals. When I selected a portal in the key menu, I recycled all but 1 key to recharge. When I tried to recharge, I got an error saying "Missing Portal Key" when I clearly selected it from the key menu. I restarted the game and it was resolved, but I thought I might being this up in case other agents have had the same experience.
When pressing on a portal that's close to another portal or portals, the portal selection menu appears for a moment and then disappears. Pressing on that portal the second time shows the selection menu, and this time it stays.
You can mock @Gersterwind all you want, but I can confirm that the compass arrow doesn't work properly on devices without built-in compass. The arrow points up no matter how map is rotated; instead, agent avatar is rotated. In Redacted, it worked properly - agent avatar always pointed up, and compass arrow rotated with map.
On a non-rooted phone, locations provided via these kinds of apps are always marked as fake for other applications. That means that when you use a non-rooted phone and a recent Android version, Ingress will know the location is fake.
There are recent reviews from PoGo players saying it works great for them. Maybe those are fake reviews and you are right. Maybe they have older Android versions.
I also confirm. Left me MIGHTY disoriented in Vegas recently. I will no longer buy phones w/o magnetometer b/c of this. I feel sad for those locked into a low end phone.
Wakey Wakey @ofer2 & @NianticBrian@NianticOfficial & @NianticCasey & Any One with Some Kind Of Ingress App Developers Experience to fix this as yet another update has been released and the app is now bigger than before but still my bug hasn't been fixed...this is really getting annoying now...don't you want any players using your apps ???

I also complain about compass. It's not about technology - it worked perfectly fine in Redacted.

Don;t know the actual percent spoofers on android vs ios. I doubt you know that either.
I strongly doubt the game will close because Niantic is ignoring your temper tantrum in favor of locking out spoofers.
It doesnt say that anything was copied, but it is. Just go to an empty field and try and paste.

It's the little things that mean a lot 😉😁

I guess this wasn't fixed after all....

Well, let's see how long it will take for spoofers to get their hands on apps like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre&hl=en_US which don't require anything besides a payment.

You should fix Spanish translation issues in-game... Some texts haven't translated as well might be top priority for Latino American agents .
There are recent reviews from PoGo players saying it works great for them. Maybe those are fake reviews and you are right. Maybe they have older Android versions.
I don't have the date, but I am sure 100% that it was done before Redacted was shut down. The change was done on both clients at the same time.
I welcome them to use that software since Niantic is known to be able to detect it and ban people...
Also please resume portal nominations. Thank you. Hate the errors.
I also confirm. Left me MIGHTY disoriented in Vegas recently. I will no longer buy phones w/o magnetometer b/c of this. I feel sad for those locked into a low end phone.
I thought this was fixed? Guess not, cause it happened yesterday. I have XM, yet this pops up......
