#Didact Field Challenge: Feb 14-24, 2020

Starting Valentine's Day, Feb 14 at 19:00 UTC to Feb 24 at 19:00 UTC, a global challenge will be issued to all Ingress agents to defeat Nemesis associate, Didact. This month, there are two global challenge goal tiers:

  1. BASE: 5,500,000 control fields established
  2. STRETCH: 8,000,000 control fields established

During the global challenge window, the portal network will experience a temporary fluctuation in the following drop rates:

  • 2X drop rate of ADA Refactor
  • 2X drop rate of JARVIS Virus

An access point exploit has also been detected in the Ingress scanner app. The origins of this AP exploit are unknown at this time, but it appears to be designed to counterbalance the focus on new fields created by agents:

  • 2X AP for resonator destroyed
  • 2X AP for link destroyed
  • 2X AP for field destroyed

A Didact Field Challenge medal will be awarded to agents who accomplish the following milestones during the global challenge window:

  1. Bronze: 100 fields created
  2. Silver: 300 fields created
  3. Gold: 800 fields created

Agents can also track their progress via a Didact: Control Fields Created stat on their agent profiles.

Additionally, to aid agents’ efforts in microfielding, a temporary Didact loadout kit (8,000 CMU) will soon become available on the in-app Store:

  • L1 Resonator x200
  • Common Heat Sink x8
  • SoftBank Ultra Link x3

Successfully defeating Didact by meeting either the BASE or STRETCH goals by Feb 24 at 19:00 UTC will result in the continuation of the following modifications:

  • BASE: 2X drop rate of ADA Refactor; 2X drop rate of JARVIS Virus continues to Mar 2 at 19:00 UTC
  • STRETCH: 2X drop rate of ADA Refactor; 2X drop rate of JARVIS Virus; 2X AP for resonator destroyed; 2X AP for link destroyed; 2X AP for field destroyed continues to Mar 2 at 19:00 UTC

Failure to defeat Didact will result in the temporary drop rate and AP exploit ending on Feb 24 at 19:00 UTC upon termination of the global challenge. Please note that failing to secure the global challenge will not affect Didact medal achievements already awarded to agents during the challenge window.

Lastly, please continue to share situation reports during the global challenge window with the #Didact hashtag, and we will reshare agent SITREPs from @Ingress social channels. Status updates with progress towards the global challenge BASE and STRETCH goals will be posted daily in the community forum starting Mon, Feb 17.

Good luck, agents. We are all counting on you.

Great post. Nothing unclear this time.

But can we get a preview of the three medals (bronze and silver)?

  • So! If we didn't reach the global goal in 5,5M fields then nothing will happen. We just didn't get the bonus. Why?

  • 800 fields? That's not much for gold... :(

Why always 2x Ap for destroying fields, why not build 2x AP for fields? Or half of the event 2x AP for destroying, the other half for building...

  • Even know that many Asian are suffering from COVID-19 and some agents could not go out to play game, you still decide to hold global challenge,WELL DONE!

  • When I create field than destroyed, what that still counting, or decreased ?

Today I played over 9 hours to created cf as many I can, than most of them destroyed under 3 hours.

Only me Resistance still planning at my area, because my area covered of 5 layer cf created by flying user.

  • At least you enabled easy mode. Double drop rates on flip cards seems like you want us to just fan field everything though. There are other ways to make triangles...still wish we had #onyx badgers for these events.

@NianticBrian Are you going to work on this challenge with us? How many fields do you expect to do, during this time? Can we count on you for a gold tier performance?

  • Sounds like you should reach out to your local agents. Maybe someone would be able to help you out some? If you were local to me, I'd help you out.

What are the first 2 medals they are not part of this?

Upcoming Optima and Lucida challenges in the coming months without the person yet. So, people finally understand where the colours of these medals come from 😁

  • Wow. That coloring is unfortunate. Bronze makes sense, but silver is blue and gold is mostly green? Haven't we had enough of #colorgate already? How many agents stopped short of goals just to avoid having the wrong color shiny on their agent profile?

  • 800 fields, 10 days, in a city of 70 portals, in which the only player in the area is me, unable to move to play in nearby cities ... a very easy challenge, yes ...

  • Incentive for the other faction to knock the stuff down. So in my local area, I will get standard AP for putting them up, while the other faction gets double AP for knocking them down. A win for the other faction I guess. Or just to let them keep on thinking that they are "winning". 😎

  • Already hitting them up - we're a small town, with about 180-200 portals with 6 agents at the most - they're all aware of me going through because the ones on the opposite faction to me agreed to leave off my portals for a 12 hour period when I was doing one last big AP grind before chemo started. Hopefully they'll all be willing to help out this time round as well 😁

Wow, thanks for the info. Looking forward the challenge. I really like this challenges... I disagree with that this challenges are too easy. Maybe in big city it is but when you're living in small city with for example 60potrals it wouldn't be so easy at all. For example for me it would be hard to even make 100 fields (not so many portals in town where I live). So if it would be like someone said 2000 fields that's impossible for me. So I'm glad it's not like that and I have chance to make it. 😀 I also like the design of medals - I don't mind that one is more blue and second is more green like some of others say. The current top medal is maybe a little bit more green but blue is there as well. And I like how design of medals from these challenges is similar. 😀

  • Although I don’t disagree with you, Niantic explained that the gold medals are all supposed to be in a spectrum of color. So it’s kind of a rainbow when they are all gold and in the same row. Which is impossible to have them all together in a row.

Yea gold should look like gold and not greenish imo.. I liked the cassandra medal color.

That might take eight or ten hours of work, as well as 30 SBUL and 30 opposite-faction flipcards. Read my detailed instructions in the other, pre-announcement thread. (Third page of comments.)

  • Why should the worldwide community be disadvantaged due to something happening in another country?
