The little dot after the middle note means that it is 1.5 times as long. The three notes add up correctly to 1/4 (1/32 + 1.5 * 1/16 + 1/8 = 8/32). But the length of the notes is completely irrelevant to the solution.
And got it suddenly... Solfa cipher would have been more satisfying
hints: there is a lot of unnecessary musical notation. Don’t try to figure out what red notes mean. The cipher itself is too simple to give a direct clue
I was there myself and didn’t have confidence to try what looked like one only way to read in a prefix. Eventually I just tried the code and it worked first time.
i can read the notes.. i see the mistakes in the measures.. i see the clefs.. and someone is saying NONE of that is part of the solution process? the clefs don't matter?
2) Start looking up pitch frequencies and trying to decode those numeric values,
I am glad I only wasted an hour on my own before looking through the comments. 😂 It would have taken me days if I persisted in trying to treat it like a real score. I mean, it still might take me days, but at least this has eliminated my top five ideas right quick.
(I find the comments about the green line being a hint puzzling. The green line looks exactly like the "now playing" line on music composition programs, which is starting at the beginning, which is where I would have started anyway? I guess it'll make sense if I ever get the answer.)
I'm still trying to figure this out. Trying to keep it simple like everyone says. If I enumerate things with letters from the toppity-top to the bottomy-bottom (26 positions right)... but I dont get anything that has the type of suffix we're normally looking for. Wrong enumeration?
Do flats and sharps matter? Does the type of note matter? Do rests matter? Or is it simply... the key has only something to do with position of the note across both clefs?
by the way, from the last puzzle to this puzzle... I think the times we see colors (pink in the last puzzle and red in this puzzle) in a puzzle that aren't used... they are probably going to be used in some future puzzle that requires us to go back to all the past ones and gather up these values.
Comments
It's not correct: they add up to one crotchet (quarter-note). But the note durations aren't used in the puzzle.

Should we be reading both lines simultaneously like you normally would with sheet music or one line at a time? Treble, then bass?
(irrelevant to this puzzle's solution but) omg i can't do maths. I was adding 1/32 + (1/16 + 1/8) + 1/8. instead of 1/32 + (1/16 + 1/32) + 1/8. fail.
Thanks @starwort @ReneZ11
ah yes, i missed the "dot" on the second one
The green line is the hint here
As you know the last 4 characters already, it might pay to work backwards to start off.
Hmm. 20 notes. 20 chars? And got it suddenly... Solfa cipher would have been more satisfying
hints: there is a lot of unnecessary musical notation. Don’t try to figure out what red notes mean. The cipher itself is too simple to give a direct clue
so now what?
That approach leads to a very long dead end
Oh I've found the keyword and it goes so beautifully with the theme! But i'm stuck on the prefix lol
Not sure if I'm following the right path... does the prefix have any numbers in it this time?
I have a 7 char prefix and I'm a tad worried it's too long.
I was there myself and didn’t have confidence to try what looked like one only way to read in a prefix. Eventually I just tried the code and it worked first time.
Got it at last. Definitely my least favourite of all the challenges so far. Too much redundant information and red herrings.
The red notes don't seem to have a meaning and the note durations don't matter either.
Prefix has at least one number ... look at how you got the suffix
If you don't see the relationship to the red notes I suspect you got given the code.
I think I must have decoded the prefix wrong. It doesn't seem to give me what I need.OMG I got it. I had made a simple transcription error which is why I couldn't get the prefix right. Thanks @DrHydrosaur
Well, I got the code on my own and still have no idea what the red notes mean , so maybe they are a kind of meta clue but I didn’t need them
i'm a musician..
i can read the notes.. i see the mistakes in the measures.. i see the clefs.. and someone is saying NONE of that is part of the solution process? the clefs don't matter?
Yes
As another musician whose first steps were to:
1) Walk over and play it on the piano
2) Start looking up pitch frequencies and trying to decode those numeric values,
I am glad I only wasted an hour on my own before looking through the comments. 😂 It would have taken me days if I persisted in trying to treat it like a real score. I mean, it still might take me days, but at least this has eliminated my top five ideas right quick.

That's the only meaning there is behind the green line.
Well one clef is treble and one is bass so I think the speculation of the green line hint is the same hint as I got from the clefs.
There is a part in the middle that could be mistaken for the end, I suspect the green line may have more meaning to that?
Correct, As a musician as well I went WAY WAY down the wrong path for hours. Started over kept it simple and came up with the answer.
I just solved it as well and don't see the relationship to the red notes. But i'm probably overlooking something simple.
I'm still trying to figure this out. Trying to keep it simple like everyone says. If I enumerate things with letters from the toppity-top to the bottomy-bottom (26 positions right)... but I dont get anything that has the type of suffix we're normally looking for. Wrong enumeration?
I've tried toppity top to bottomy bottom and bottomy bottom to toppity top and I'm still stuck.
Do flats and sharps matter? Does the type of note matter? Do rests matter? Or is it simply... the key has only something to do with position of the note across both clefs?

Done. I agree, too many red herrings.
