We need anomalies not individual event.
Please think it over well.
The Hexathlon was fun - as an event for individual game play. It shouldn't be replacing the anomalies as these are an entirely different structure.
Such a shame to see the anomaly numbers completely decimated to only one in six months.
I would guess that Hexathlon participation numbers will be nothing like the anomalies as people may be reluctant to travel and spend money for individual non-faction based play.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out but would prefer a better mix of anomalies with these :(
Not sure if I'm missing something this is just the dates posted right? There isn't a city list for the Hexathlons posted anywhere I'm not seeing?
Only one anomaly and only in one city in Europe???
The problem I have with this is that it seems that Niantic is trying to get away from Team oriented events to these single agent on your own events. I love this game because of the teams coming together to coordinate a win. This individual oriented thing is not what this game is about, it's about team play. Please reconsider.
To be honest? Quarterly and a dozen cities each time was a bit hectic for us. When we go somewhere, it's a family trip, after all.
I do appreciate the 6 months of notice, though if it's to be an annual thing, something like a year notice for international travel would be nice. Maybe synchronized with the GoRuck schedule as well, since they're really good at announcing stuff and scheduling a year out.
But if staff ever reads this, hearing the reasoning and background and perhaps having some better communications as to 'why' would be a start.
Possibly a decoding element?
They will post the hexathlon cities next week.
If this has anything to do with the whole fiasco over paid anomalies, please reconsider. I think the main reason everyone was upset was not so much that we were being asked to pay for an anomaly, it was that we didn't know until pretty much the last minute that this would be the case. If you advertise from the get go that you are charging for an event, I think most of us won't be all that put out, especially if it's reasonably priced . After all we are used to paying for swag, and all those premium packs. People are used to paying a lot of money for hotels and travel, we love this game and paying for a great experience isn't all that much to ask for.
Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback. If you give me a few moments, I'm writing a reply as a new thread to try and clarify a few things about 2020 events, as well as why we're moving in a different direction than the last anomaly series. Thanks for your patience, and I'll post a link back here when I'm done writing my reply.
I hope it addresses abandoning the core of Ingress faction versus faction competitive gameplay, the anomalies. At this point, I can't tell if you guys just missed April 1 by a few months or if you actually think this is a good idea.
It's no surprise this news was released on a Friday afternoon.
I've got to admit, I'm a bit disappointed.
Single player events are boring. They don't form community and they are pretty pointless. I don't go to events for a silly badge. I go to connect with my team.
Ingress is a global game. One of the reasons I continue to play is because of the people. I've made friends all over the United States and even quite a few from other countries as well. One of the main vehicles for that has been anomalies. Anomalies build communities and allow us all to play on a different level. They are different kind of challenge and it's one of the things that makes this game interesting.
Quite frankly, walking around playing by myself with a broken game is just not very motivating. It is my sincere hope that you reconsider an ad someone always for us to look forward to.
To have only one site, in Europe, for January-May is disappointing. To fly to Europe from the Americas or Asia/Australia is really long and basically impossible to do if you have kids in school or are a student. (May=end of the year exams, terrible time to travel) I somehow managed to balance being a point of contact/organizer for a large site with my regular job, a move, a long commute and a union organizing gig but I guess this is what is finally going to break my streak of anomaly attendance. This could be more inclusive!
I'm in this for the organized team play at this point, so going to a hexathlon (yes I've been to one) is not a substitute. If I just wanted individual stats rather than a cooperative game there are other games I can grind away at. The hexathlon is basically regular Ingress. Playing against a clock is only interesting in field ops.
I am very disappointed that there will only be one anomaly and the other events have been changed to single player competitions. I have no interest in spending money to travel to simply to play Ingress on my own.
Playing as a team is incredibly fun. Having an opposing team is also fun. Standing around, competing in individual events is not fun.
We need anomalies to revitalize this game.
I’ll just leave this here. I am looking forward to @NianticBrian response. I’m available for hire as a consultant if you guys would like to make $$$ and have a happy player base. Let me know :) also nice subliminal bias for all of the enl favored pictures in the ads. I can fix that kind of stuff *wink wink*
Side note you guys rock! A few minor tweaks and I think you will be dialed in full force. 💙💚
Given that there is literally already a focus group of players/organizers who have a finger on the pulse of the Ingress player base I'm not sure why any response other than this one would be expected. Talk to the Vanguards. I'm reasonably certain that they could tell you all the stuff we are telling you and they are already all in one place.
I am really disappointed in the lack of future anomalies for 2020. I play this game because of the team based aspect. If niantic plans to push the solo aspect or the individual achievements of this game (ie. Field test or hexathalon), I would rather choose one of the other products on the market.
Ingress is special because of the ability to participate in large scale operations which none of the other AR games on the market does very well. Take that away and I might as well play one of the other games.
I started a new thread here, thank you: https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/7713/brians-blog-dec-2019
@NianticBrian can we suggest a city for the hexathlon ? Like Purmerend, Netherlands of do you already have cities in mind ?
I must say it's pretty funny that I haven't seen any ENL talked about Nuremberg since Chicago.
I guess something similar to the field test events as they were also called Hexathlon. https://ingress.com/eventdescription/hexathlon-20190914
Por favor anuncien las ciudades, para programar el viaje y los turnos de trabajo.
A question. Is Macau in February and Kobe in April anomaly canceled?
They never existed.
The original post here says "We plan to release the February Perpetua Hexathlon cities next week." As we are now just a few hours from the end of "next week," when can we expect to know the cities for the February Hexathlon event?
they are posted few days ago..
See https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/7916/2020-event-update/p1 for the list of cities
Will the hexatalon all have different badges?
