Farewell Agents! - RedSoloCup

Agents,
For over seven years, Ingress has been part of my daily life. About four years ago, I took a risk and was blessed with an opportunity to turn my passion of Ingress into a career when Niantic hired me as employee number thirty-six after they spun out from Google. It is with mixed feelings that I have to inform you all that Monday, December 30th will be my last day at Niantic. This was not an easy decision. I searched my heart though and through. Ultimately, I felt it was the right decision for me and the next chapter of my life.
I am proud to have contributed in ways both seen and unseen across the company when I look back on the last four years. One of my main goals when I accepted the position was to conduct myself objectively and without bias towards either Faction. I wanted people to know that I was not Enlightened Agent RedSoloCup the Ingress Global Community Manager (GCM), I was Andrew Krug the Ingress GCM. In a short amount of time you embraced me in my new role and recognized the difference between Agent and person. That enabled me to make human connections and have shared experiences that I never thought possible.
The community is the lifeblood of Ingress. Over the last seven years, this “game” has brought me an immense amount of joy. I established new friendships that have transcended the game. I have performed the wedding ceremony of two Ingress couples and have been invited to many more as a guest. However, it has brought me pain as well. Sadly, several friends I made through Ingress have passed away over the years too. The two that hit me the hardest was Frank Maxwell from Ireland, aka Agent Reviresco and Cadre Roony (Josh) from GORUCK. I was honored to have interviewed Frank on Behind The Scanner back in 2014. He was one of the truly good people who exuded positivity and was just fascinating to talk to as well. I was equally as honored to get to know Josh. We were born the same year, both had kids, both from the state of Wisconsin, and we both had a connection to the U.S. Army. He used to bring fresh cheese curds to events for me. It was a little slice of home that he shared. He also gave a lot of himself to his community, family, and friends as well.
As a community, we’ve pulled each other up and supported one another through illness, hard times, the loss of loved ones, and any number of natural disasters. As a community we’ve also celebrated the birth of Ingress children, cancer remissions, graduations, new jobs, weight loss, and many other positive things together. These are the things that make Ingress special in my opinion -- the human connection it reinforces. Thank you for allowing me to share in the joys and for allowing me to support you during the hard times when I could.
Your admiration and support over the years has been humbling. Making my portrait out of cross-faction fields!?! I will forever be in awe of that. I’ll miss reading the hundreds of letters you sent to my P.O. box and collecting the thousands of bio cards we’ve traded at events. To the Agent that cosplayed as me during a Japan NL1331 tour, your fake beard was impressive but it scared me a little too. I have shared meals with players from Alaska, Dublin, Tokyo and a ton of cities in-between. I have traveled this world visiting over two dozen countries and probably 100 unique cities to interact and meet with you. You invited me into your homes to meet your families. You have showered me with affection that I can never repay. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! These memories will be everlasting and have enriched me in ways I didn’t think possible.
I have interacted with so many diverse people and seen a side of humanity that few people ever will. I am blessed beyond words. I wish everyone on the planet could experience what I have. At a time when most of the news seems to be reduced to click bait or rhetoric designed to inflame the differences, we as human beings have; Ingress doesn’t care about any of that. Are you blue or green? That’s all that matters.
I’ll leave you with this advice. Try to respect one another. When you communicate with other people, be accountable for the words you choose. Don’t be rhetorical terrorists. The choices you make every day can impact those around you in a positive or negative way and you have no idea what a person is going through on a daily basis. You don’t need to hit the enter key on every message you type. Choose your words wisely and be constructive. Accept and embrace all the things that make us unique and different from one another. The world is not a perfect place and people are inherently fallible -- including myself.
Thank you for making these past four years as your Global Community Manager so rewarding. Ingress is truly more than a game.
Happy hacking, Agents!

We will miss you!
Such sad news to loose you! Both as a person and Niantic employee who actually understands the game!
Thank you for what you've done and contributed to Ingress. I'll put a +1 on my sojourner counter for you tomorrow and I want a beard beacon as farewell present!
Good luck, Andrew!
And End of an era.. you will be missed, always hope to catch up if our paths cross again whenever, wherever, Andrew.. you were a godsend and a solid anchor, that brought alot of the positive changes that happened in Ingress in the past few years, and I hope that your legacy lives on through the community and those who've interacted with you and were part of the journey.
Fare thee well in your next endeavors Agent RedSoloCup!
The game wont be the same without you, good luck in your future endeavors!
Oh wow! I never saw that coming :(
You will be missed.
Best of luck to you Krug in what ever comes next for you. Wish you the best.
It's sad to read this but understandable. You did a fantastic job. Thank you so much for all you have done. Good luck on your journey.
I hope Niantic had learn from you and your work, they really need to improve.
Thank you for your four years' work. Good luck.
Sad to see you go, Andrew. Good luck on your next adventure.

Agent Trminator
Berlin, Germany
We will miss you. ;(
You are a part of the Ingress.
Thank you and good luck.
Thank you for being such a wonderful Global Community Manager. Whoever takes your place will have very large lasagne pan to fill.
Ouch! This hurts. I always had a great time reading your Telegram updates and AMA writing style was much fun as well.
I live & play in a country outside of Niantic's radar so I never had the opportunity to participate in any of the events you worked hard for but, still, I was in awe of your input to this game we all love.
Happy trails!!
You've been an excellent CM !
Farewell !
No more amas ? 😨
Definitely will miss you, as said by many others up ahead, thank you for all that you have done for us.
You will be missed. See you around 🥺
Thanks for all you have done, you will be sorely missed
I always looked forward to your AMA. It must have been a Sisyphean task! But your responses
Someone may be hired to be the new GCM - but they will never replace you. You will be missed!
I wish you the best in your future, and hope that all your travels and adventures from now on are the best times of your life!
And if you ever traipse down to Kentucky - let us know? The BBQ and Bourbon is on my tab.
Thanks!
Thanks for everything you have done for the community Andrew. It can't have been easy to put up with this particular class of nerds and you did it with grace and aplomb. Don't be a stranger.
Psst... Come to Baconomaly!
Good luck on the next chapter of your professional life, and thank you for setting the bar for community management and engagement :)
Thank you for everything you've done for the game and community. It has been a pleasure to meet you at anomalies and events, and greatly appreciate your wise words. I hope the next step in your career is happy and successful, you will be missed!
Will miss you, Enl Hunter @RedSoloCup
@RedSoloCup, you will be sorely missed. I really doubt we'll get another GCM who knows the game and the community so well, and it will be a real shame to lose your experience and connections. The game will be less for your loss at a time when we're still rediscovering the joy of the game.
But all good things come to an end, and I hope you find a new path that gives as much meaning and connection.
Also, could you go back to being Agent @RedSoloCup now, and make big fields again?
Wow... As only one of many agents bracing for this news, I completely understand life takes us in different directions. Be ever fortunate in your next endevour as you were with Niantic. That being said, you have left a BIG hole and some Big shoes to fill. Hopefully your replacement will be able to do just as good of a job as you did.
Thank-You
I remember walking around Berkeley with you just about the time you applied. It has been great to see you everywhere. Thank you for all that you've done for the game and I hope to still see you around if and when you are in the Bay area.
Thanks again and good luck wherever you go,
Diane 'thecatspaws'
Goodbye Andrew 👋

Thank you for your diplomatic and wise work for both Niantic and players ! I hope you will have your SoJourner Onyx once.
Cécile

So long, and thanks for all the fish!
