We've focused on many behind-the-scenes improvements to Ingress, and addressing stability is a top priority. We also worked to make Remote Portal View load more quickly, so it's good to hear that these are noticeable improvements.
I sometimes note that updates are "speculative fixes" if we aren't able to consistently or reliably reproduce the reported issue, so we believe this speculative fix will address most of the reported issue for most players.
The remote portal view loads faster now, but when resuming the app from background, the delay is still there.
By the way, is it intentional that the key button doesn’t open remote portal view when selecting a portal from the scanner? If you don’t use a key, there is no way to enter remote portal view, this was possible in redacted.
The button now “clicks”, but doesn’t do anything...
@Jo0Lz that sounds like it's working as designed. If you can already view the portal on the map screen, what are you trying to do via Remote Portal View for the portal that's within view?
Well, you can go to remote portal view from a key in your inventory, but you cannot enter that view if you click on the portal. The remote portal view gives you a larger overall view of the play area. When you can enter that view from the portal view (which you could in redacted) you can hop from portal to portal.
this is useful when you see missing xm and want to see where someone is traveling, or to see the status of portals around other portals if you don’t have a key.
in redacted you could go from portal to portal through remote portal view (portal hop, if you will).
you could even use the navigation feature to jump to portals even further away. (Useful for making portal edits for portals you don’t have a key for, for example).
A few versions ago, the key button became clickable, but it either doesn’t do anything, or it brings you to the photo view.
Yes, but it isn’t possible to enter remote portal view at all from anyplace other than the portal key. That is different from the behavior in redacted.
in terms of feature parity, this was always missing. A few updates ago, the portal key became clickable, but it either does nothing, or it opens the picture album.
In Ingress 1.x you could hop via portals that you didn't have keys for. The method was to turn Navigation on for that portal, return to the map, and click on the navigator. You then get the remote portal view and can click on another more distant portal. Rinse and repeat.
I think you can do something similar in Prime. I checked the activity stream and clicked on a random portal and was able to go to it. If there is a portal nearby, I was able to click on that one and go into it's portal view as well.
Now, the Nav button, I miss. In 1.x you could tap and hold a random spot on the screen and the Nav button would appear in the slide menu and you could actually navigate to a spot on the map, no portal necessary. I really miss the nav button. It was especially useful for doing missions with Field trip waypoints. All you had to do is navigate to them and it would automatically open it when you got on it.
@NianticBrian any plans to get that nav button back? Any plans for getting the widget back too?
Yes, happens sometimes when the phone doesn't have a good GPS signal. The problem with it is that you can't exit the spinning globe even if you do acquire a good GPS signal. It seems to be simply lying about having acquired the location.
access the keys to that portal in order to drop or recycle them.
since the "key" button on that portal view from the map screen clicks for does not do anything, I have to go to the keys inventory, scroll up and enter the portal.
This works. Tapping the key symbol opens the key for dropping or recycling. It only doesn't work when the portal screen was already opened from the key list on the first place, which seems to be on purpose.
So are you insinuating that I cheat? Ok, then if that is the view of Ingress, I quit.
It's not worth the mileage and data usage if all my efforts in farming at portals in live locations and not some emulator or backdoor program will earn me demerits. I've had enough.
No? I did not say you cheat. I’ve seen items disappear because they were farmed by bots. Items can be dropped, so I did not insinuate that at all. Calm down. (:
@NianticBrian Any chance that we get an option to disable the portal nearby dialogues. Even its more transparent now, it still blocks to much from the screen and makes selecting specific portals inconvenient.
Personally I believe it makes only sense that they this dialogue is shown if you are at least 10km away from the next portal.
Is it possible to get rid of "It has been XX hours since your last login. I was getting worried about you"? Sounds like overly attached girlfriend.
Is it possible to fix boost charging in order to get rid of "XM reserves critical, XM drained, scanner offline, resonators recharged, XM acquired, XM reserves online, scanner online, good work"?
Comments
Not a lot of obvious changes.
What's with the new yellow "v" like login page?

Passcode is fully redeemed. Is there another passcode to redeem so we can test this new feature?
Does anyone else have the issue with the spinning globe on the start screen. The message says location acquired but it won't load the map.
I already tried to uninstall/reinstall Ingress Prime, clearing cache and storage but nothing worked.
resonator / portal view is different from remote portal view.

Nonsense. If there are portals on screen the nearby aren't being displayed. So how can they block other portals xD
it works on your side, but ot on mine.
Finally have the upgrade, had a chance to try the passcode, and it's fully (definitely not "already") redeemed.
For some guys that's probably the only moment they hear something like that, why take this from them?
in the settings screen, go to the "sound & vibration" section, and set the "Speech" cursor to 0%.
I don't mind having speech on. But the first message is just creepy, and the second barrage of messages is because of boost charge issue.
When is the next update?
To 2.37.2? It already came out, 2.38.3. 😂
It's supposed to be creepy. Try not logging in for 12 or more hours... ;) It's how the game has been since the beginning.
Just because it has been since the beginning doesn't mean it has to stay 😉
