ONE!?!?!?! actual anomaly site? I'm beyond confused how we were teased months ago with 9 February sites plus three regional finale events (which seemed to be quite a popular format with the Abaddon Prime series, at least from the agent side), and now we get 30! WHOLE! NON-COMPETITIVE! EVENTS! over two weekends, and one actual anomaly site. This is a really good look for you, Niantic. Player retention at its finest.
The distinguishing characteristic of Ingress, to me, has always been the amount of coordination and teamwork facilitated by the game structure and by anomalies in particular. The consistent intentional moves away from this game play by Niantic has significantly eroded the game experience for myself and many others. Offering only a single anomaly opportunity for the first half of the year signals to me that these events are not valued by Niantic, and by proxy that the features of the game that made it so unique are likewise not valued by the company.
Niantic is certainly free to do what it likes with its product, but I think it's incredibly sad and a gigantic wasted opportunity to take a totally novel form of gaming and essentially throw it away in pursuit of a cheap and easy dollar. Niantic needs to be up front about its goals for the game - those of us who have poured our hearts into these communities deserve to know so we can decide how long we want to continue to support a company that does not value us.
When can we expect to get the details of the Hexathalon cities @NianticBrian especially for the February date? Would these be something along the line of the Field Test conducted not too long ago?
Is Niantic really coming from aroung 9 sites 4 times a year to 1 site 2 times a year(probably for anomalies? This is not the way to keep this game going. Very disappointed with this decision and hoping they reverse it to the old model.
Having been in a Field Test and in an anomaly, i can say they are nothing alike and FT won't fill an anomaly shoes in what it means to the players and the community.
Niantic wants to capitalize on Ingress but just made a decision that will only drive players away.
Field Tests should be fillers between anomalies, to keep the players engaged, not to substitute it.
Bylo by moudré co nejdříve oznámit města!! Zajistit letenky a hotely na poslední chvíli je dost stresující!!! P5K ať se NIA nediví, že na anomaly spousta agentů "hodí bobek".
After the last round of anomalies... I'm kinda okay giving Niantic a little extra time to work on the servers. Hopefully once Germany comes around they'll be able to have a stable anomaly, and be able to announce more.
So they realize they can't charge us for something, in which we do the lion share of the work setting up. And the solution is to have events that no one will want to go to.
What is the difference between a field test and just playing? Nothing to do with the back story, no need for teams, no need for any stragety, no need to organize any kind of event, no need to travel or spend money. No need to attend.
I'm genuinely curious why you've set the anomaly date on a Ramadan again. I missed out on Amsterdam which I really wanted to participate and will probably miss out on Munich too.
The hexathlons will probably be fun but doubt I'd make the effort to travel too far for those. Very disappointed that there's one anomaly only and in a very pricy to get to location as well.
Please do not reduce the anomaly experience to a single date and a single city. The teamwork and coordination I've experienced at each of my 24 previous anomalies has been a sublime experience I haven't been able to find in any other game or gameplay mechanic/event even within Ingress. I would hate for others to not have the chance to experience an anomaly because it's so exclusive now.
The Hexathalon is a mini-anomaly. And they have two (2) of them including a full fledged anomaly. That's one event every two months. In the past, they had one event every 3 months, at most.
Please don't diminish what they are doing. There is still opportunities to travel, and meet people. It will be fun. give it a chance before saying it's disappointing.
One single anomaly date and site is very disappointing news. Anomalies are the lifeblood of intercommunity engagement, hype-building, recruiting new agents into the bigger game and, well, fun for many players of Ingress. Please reconsider this decision for the sake of old and new agents alike and for the sake of continued interest in your game.
Only one anomaly date for the first half of 2020? After all the waiting? This is very sad. One of the last functioning - at least IMHO- social parts of the game is being castrated in favor of single player/stats competitions. I always kept myself going, hoping NIA would come back eventually to its core roots: two factions - strongly socially connected, competing against each other. Now I am getting more and more the feeling NIA just wants another PoGo or HPWu, just another game without any real social component. Ingress used to be #morethanagame for one single reason: because of the communities. Now it just becomes more and more #justanothergame
people in a TG channel saying how bad german internet is and really expensive.. so take this in mind if u plan to go.. didnt think german 4g internet would be slow and bad...
When I read about Munich being the only Anomaly-site my first thought was that there must be a *really big* playbox. Otherwise there are too fast too many people in a cell -> network-breakdown. Mobile network is really awful and very expansive. But Niantic already experienced how bad the german mobile network is and should consider this in the planning process
Scarcity does not create demand. Fewer events will lead to a further reduction in participation. And ingress cannot afford to have the number of participants continue to decline.
Drive participation by having more events. Lower the barrier to entry and more people will participate. Yes there are a number of us who will see the word anomaly and come running. But intercontinental travel is a significant hurdle for a lot of people. I know a number of people who have drifted away but who still might participate in major events like anomalies. But there needs to be a wider range of opportunities to bring those players back.
Anomalies are a catalyst for communities. Give a group of people a common goal and they'll come together. I had fun at the September hexathalon event, but it didn't have the same vibe. It was great to see people whom I don't often get a chance to see, but the collaborative and competitive spirit was missing. It would make a great format for an enhanced First Saturday, but it leaves a lot to be desired for a "tent pole event."
Ingress has been a fascinating social experiment in bringing people together. While it's possible to play it as an individual, it's the team aspects that really make it shine. I urge you to reconsider the format and availability of the recently-announced events to be more in line with the community-driven competition that makes Ingress unique.

Read again, it says hexathlon, not anomalies.
So much mimimi in here
😅😂

A very big THANK YOU for bringing back mission days!!!! This is very good news!

Can't charge, so reduce costs instead?
100% approval!
Next week.
Will those hexathlons be the same as the first hexathlon (aka field tests)?
Those Field Tests were disappointing. If the Feb & April events are anything like them, they're a dud.
Onsite/Offsite Badge prices?

Nia, ist this a bad joke?
Do you want to destroy everything what ingress is about?
A SINGLE anomali...
I’m looking forward to cities and details for the Hexathlons and Mission Days. 😃

Sad times
It is not a mini-anomaly. There were individual challenges, but no teamplay.
There will only be one Anomaly for Requiem.
Helvetica was our opponent during the first Hexathlon.
