[BUG] Can't Submit Portals
I did a hike last night, and when I got home, I attempted to submit the portals that I took photos of on the trail.
Every time I attempt to submit the portal above, I get this error:
I have tried with other portals in the same general area, and the same result happens every time. I'm within 25kms of the location and restarting the phone and the app didn't change things. I have 13 available submissions as I've been spending more time in dense portal areas lately. I'm on home wifi, so data throughput isn't an issue. I can see no reason why submitting would fail. But it does. Repeatedly.

Is it possible you've had your privileges revoked?
At the start of the process, it still tells me I have 13 portals to submit.
Solution: The problem was with my new phone. The Pixel 4's image resolution results in too high a photo to be uploaded, so I had to change my resolution down to Medium in order for the upload to work. I uploaded 7 new nominations today and it worked well, even on touch-and-go signal.
I probably should ping @NianticBrian or @NianticCasey about this so they're aware (just in case there's some way to force medium quality through the app).
Thanks for the feedback @Perringaiden, I can imagine that with many new phones having super high quality cameras, this could only continue to be an issue. I'll take this back to the Wayfarer team to see what can be done to address it.
The app should resize the photos before uploading it and voilà, problem solved...
I heard that the reason they don't store the photos any more or use Sync was to avoid on-device processing and taking up storage.
The process is the same, photos are uploaded into Google cloud, but if the app resize before upload, then the process will consume less data upload and less time doing it.
Hi there @Perringaiden, I was working with the Wayfarer team to try to reproduce this error but even when using a Pixel 4 with the camera resolution set to Full Resolution, we didn't encounter the error that you're talking about. We tried with both taking a photo and uploading from the gallery no problem.
Do you have a screen recording of what you experienced? Or could you send in the steps you took so we can try to reproduce the error?
@NianticCasey the photo supplied shows less than full 4G
A high Res photo, on a low mobile reception does fail.
Just have the nomination set to a lower Res if it is too high
I was actually on home Wifi when submitting.
I can probably make one, though I might submit it to you via Telegram, or through @RedSoloCup as I don't want to make a public video of my home address :-)
So I repeated the process at home and discovered some things:
@NianticCasey I've sent you a video of the second case, and the files used to do it, via Telegram
If I use existing photo which is unedited
it takes me to my moments folder also so today I put all my existing photos through the pic stitch app as a single frame photo and a 4 frame photo, save to album ( still went to moments folder ) and the subs went flying through with no issues 😊
I've created a post with the same complaint: https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/6855/ios-crash-after-picking-photo-from-camera-roll-when-submitting-portals#latest
@NianticCasey This is happening with iOS.
Circling back to @Perringaiden, I got confirmation that our team was able to reproduce the error you experienced based on the video you shared with me. They're looking into the situation now.
@s3w2: I flagged your thread with them too so they had additional information to reference in working on the issue.
Thanks for your patience!
Thanks @NianticCasey, I'm glad we could get them a good reproduction.
Thank you. Looking forward for a quick fix.

Thank you for waiting.
As a result of checking, uploading an image that has undergone special processing such as trimming or correction may cause the app to quit.
When uploading from an existing photo, please upload the original unprocessed photo.
There are no plans to correct or update this matter at this time.
If additional information is needed, we may contact you again.
In that case, thank you for your cooperation.
Please continue your favors toward Ingress.
That's a valid request.
Photos that have been altered from their original should not be part of the portal network. This is to prevent Instagram filters, or digital modification, such as fake information signs.
The issue I was having in the original post is an unmodified existing photo. My suggested workaround is to reduce the capture resolution at the time of taking the photograph not to digitally modify the photo after taking it.
@NianticCasey I hope they accept better quality if photos new phones get with better camera.
