Its an opportunity to level the playfield for those that missed the giveaway, while still having it meaningful for those that got it - they got it for free.
It's not about being entitled to a new locker, it's about a competitive advantage that players who just played at the right time have that nobody else can get.
Why shouldn't they delete the 6th locker for anyone that has it to level the playing field in this player versus player game?
It makes more sense to give the choice to buy it, but it wouldn't be wrong of them to take it away as a balancing act.
It wasn't well explained back then. If I knew that I would not be able to buy more after picking up the giveaway,I would had first buyed out all 5 (I had 3 at the time) and the get the extra.
Now that lack of the 6th is really making some difference.
They could just raise the buyable limit to 6 for a period of time (the anniversary weeks), those who have 6 already wouldn't be affected, buy those who got 1 free can now buy the 5th, and new players who lost the giveaway can buy the 6th.
Key lockers are pay to strong advantage. If they aren't, unload all your keys and see how much fun that is. They're just a very reasonable cost and a one time purchase so people don't hate them. Someone who can load up 600 more keys before an anomaly is literally advantaged.
My last recharge room had 15-20 players responsible for 30 portals each. 1 person brought all the keys. Poor dude could barely play for 2 months because he was bursting at the seams.
I have no idea where and how you play, but where I play it is very competitive. I have 500 keys in lockers and another 400 to boot in general inventory. Having that 6th key locker would be huge as far as helping free 100 space in my inventory for booms and cubes. I know a number of players in this area that have the 6th locker, and everyone agrees it is a huge advantage.
They do. Doesn't mean that they didn't make a mistake by making one of them actually impact gameplay. You already have your yearly badge, they aren't giving people your only reward for playing the game or anything

Yeah. I would love to buy a 7th.
Because I also don't want to be disadvantaged.

But sure keep with the salty sarcasm.
Every single agent that played at that time got 1 free locker, regardless of how many you had.
If you weren't playing then, you have no right to it.
If you were playing then, but didn't already have 5 before, you still got a free locker.

Having more keys isn't a competitive advantage.
Keys are useless if you can't control portals.
Literally nobody cried about keylockers being PayToWin.
It’s 100 extra slots for those who utilize all their current space and have more keys. To deny it being an advantage is insane.
You complain about entitlement but this is pot calling the kettle black.

I have 6 lockers, there's a total of 30 keys in them.
I use my keys! Either by linking or recycling them for XM
Also, I don't know which anomalies you have been to, but nowhere I've been, I've had to use more than 100 keys
You've never had to key mule for a recharge room, and judging by you don't even use your lockers you'd make a perfect one.
I have, but that is pre-anomaly, not during. I can not say I've heard of anyone ever using 100+ keys (let alone 500+) during a single anomaly

We got a reward for playing then. "Leveling the playing field" would negate that reward.
I disagree. The reward we got was having it free. That doesn't rule out the possibility of Niantic offering it for money at a later date.
The reward was an exclusive extra locker. "Exclusive".
There's no reason why the reward can't be timelocked. It's been two years.
Niantic loves unique rewards. Every anomaly badge is only available to those who were there. Swag changes every time. Volunteer coins are year dated.
While I'd be quite happy with everyone receiving another Key Locker, that would mean 7 for some and 6 for others.
The limit is 5. I can't buy more because I got one free. Just increase the limit to 6 so everyone can buy the 6th.
It's actually pretty simple.
I definitely don't like the idea of the 6th locker staying exclusive forever. I make heavy use of all six of mine:
Bringing the 6th capsule back at each anniversary would make sense to me.

No-one ever said it was hard. Plenty of people said they don't want that to happen.
