@Niantic, re MDAS: swimming with dolphins
Today on Telegram I saw a photo of an agent on the Ingress MDAS trip swimming with dolphins. I would like to know if this trip was arranged by the agent(s) themselves, or if Niantic or their partner company organised this trip?
I'm not looking to call anyone out here, I just want to know because swimming with dolphins causes great harm to both the dolphins held in captivity and to wild dolphins and if it was done with Niantic's knowledge I'd like to talk with you about it. I'm sure the agent(s) involved are animal lovers - why else would you want to hang out with dolphins? - but I'm really hoping they organised this themselves not knowing why they shouldn't if they care about animal welfare.
Niantic, please can you confirm if this trip was done with your knowledge and approval or just something someone did while they were in town?

Great harm?
It's a good thing they didn't post the pic of John Hanke riding that dolphin
Even greater harm then the great white shark..
MDAS is a Niantic event. The excursions the agents choose to take are up to them and offered by whatever companies are on the port stop.
Chill. The Dolphins were well compensated in fish.
Forum rules don't allow me to post at length about non-Ingress issues, but there's a lot of info online about this. For a basic guide to some (but not all) of the problems:

Sadly, forum rules don't allow me to discuss this issue here. My purpose in posting this was only to find out if Niantic arranged/promoted/approved this activity and if so, to find out who at the company I could talk to about it. Or to be relieved if they didn't!
Players organised the Mission Day. Niantic supported it. But neither are responsible for the actions taken by agents on the trip. I do not recall there being a listed activity of "Swimming with dolphins" on the itinerary.
Thank you. I'd really like to hear from Niantic on this @RedSoloCup
@supastag its clear you’ve never been on a cruise or you wouldn’t need to bother niantic with this question. There are HUNDREDS of companies that run excursions for cruise ship passengers. Niantic isn’t one of them. Go to a cruise website and click on the excursions available and you will see a bit more about how it works.
Hmm I hope they're not cruising on the S.S. Niantic then... Who knows what else Niantic is to blame next.!?!!! 🙊
Talk to the Cruise Liner and it's affiliates.
I know cruise companies organise trips but I was told Niantic approved this in advance. I was hoping Niantic would speak up about this but they don't appear to be willing to discuss it, even politely.
Niantic approved the Mission Day. Not the particulars of the cruise itself nor the activities offered by the cruise company.
This has nothing to do with Niantic. It is a company in Costa Maya that offers the experience to cruise guests at the port. You should contact them. I hope your Spanish is good.
Niantic didn't pay for, nor endorse the cruise liner or the non-Ingress activities. It endorsed a Mission Day utilizing the course laid out by the cruise. If you want to complain about a tourist location in Mexico that allows swimming with dolphins, I suggest you contact the Mexican government, and see how receptive they are.
This whole virtue demand nonsense from unaffiliated companies, because of how you heard of something, is just "woke" nonsense. If you really cared, you'd be actually doing something about it with the real authorities instead of demanding that a mobile game developer prevent cruelty to animals in a different country.
Hi. I'm poc for mdas. All excursions were individually arranged by agents through the cruise ship itself. Niantic had no involvement.
Thank you.
