November 2019 Ingress AMA Question Thread
edited December 2019 in Ask Me Anything (AMAs)
It is the first Monday of November.
- Ask your questions in this thread related to Ingress.
- At some point, in the near future, I'll close this thread once critical mass has been reached.
- I'll then curate the questions and work with our teams internally to answer as many as we can.
- It can take a little as two days or as long as two weeks to publish the responses.
Make sure you read the rules. Once you do that, ask your questions!

Certain AMA questions are time-sensitive such as those for upcoming events (the October AMA contained a couple of Umbra related questions). Is there a possibility to prioritize such questions and provide answers in a more timely manner? Maybe even splitting up the answers in 2 parts?
Judging by the portal appeals section and the official responses to them, it seems that "something which has never been portal worthy" is not a valid reason to remove a portal. Can this be changed or are location based reasons (PRP, school, safe access, not there anymore,..) the only reasons why an existing portal can be removed?
When will agents have access to the Lunar Intel Map so we can see the status of the moon landing portal?
Are there plans to let us see a list of our Portal Edits in Wayfarer like we can see our portal submissions? If not, is this an idea that can be taken under consideration?
Would the forum mods/admins be open to having pinned/stickied threads in sections of the forums for when major changes or announcements are had, so we have less od dozens of threads being posted about the same topics?
In the Avenir shard event, can you comment on how you chose which portals to use as spawns/targets? Was the target named "Beacon of Hope" a coincidence?
Will it be possible to organize a stand alone mission day (specifically Europe, but also for other continents of course) for 2020?
Recently, Niantic Wayfarer Reviewing was accidentally released worldwide for Level 40 Pokemon Go Players. However, not all level 40 players had access to it, only a subset could log in. Will this mysterious limited access criteria be used when Waypoint Submitting and Reviewing is rolled out to regions where the games are more popular? If not, would they consider this so the transition to having more than just Ingress players involved isn't as extreme?
With Prime, other players' missions are only fully visible if their stats are open. Is that intentional, or can we hope that there will be changes at some point in the future? Or in other words: Is this a feature or a bug?
Since adding the Intel Map Link in the portal review complete emails is now no longer an option, can we have some location indication like a google maps link or a gps coordinate?
Is the Media Capsule already in Development ? Would be also a great Idea to add a news Sponsor to your List to get some money to Ingress.
Would lookout decks on walking trails be good portal candidates?
With Redacted now retired, is there a refresh to the Intel site in the pipeline, and if so, can we expect community input as we saw with the stats export feature in Prime?
Portal Submissions has been having issues ever since Pokemon Go players were reintroduced to submittinm submissions now fail to appear in Wayfarer and send confirmation emails fail to send much more often. Contacting Niantic Support just leads to the usual message about making sure our device has a good connection. Is Niantic aware of the problem and working on a solution?
Will there be a change in The Mission author? Like you can take Missions offline and online again without a review again and more Missions avalibe per Agent? Its always sad if you have to take good ones offline to make new Banners
Scanner Communication Error 1?
When do we have an Anomaly Event here in Lisbon? What can we do to make it possible? Thank you.
I really appreciate the fact that Niantic extended GDPR protections to non-EU citizens; thank you for taking an expansive stance on privacy. In the New Year, California's CCPA privacy legislation goes into effect. Can you comment on whether or not Niantic will extend some or all of the protections due to California residents to non-Californians? (I recognize you may not be able to comment on this since it's a legal question.)
Will there be any standalone Mission Days in first half of 2020 ?
Would NIA be open to allowing players below level 12 access OPR if it were to be reviewing things like only Portal Edits, maybe with some kind of incentives such as upgrades?
The Ingress Mission Authoring Tool has not worked properly for many players for a few weeks now, the portals are no longer displayed as before, which makes it difficult to impossible to create high quality routes. So far there have been no reactions to postings in the community and the bug seems not to be known at support. Can you comment on this?
Are there any new plans to help encourage more OPR reviewing with some kind of added incentive other than the badge and upgrades, like CMU per agreement or limited-time events?
During the transition of OPR to Wayfarer, the Candidate Action Guide was removed from the Acceptance Criteria section. Does this mean that the guide no longer applies and that reviewers should use their best judgement, such as with city/subdivision/development signs, gazebos, water towers, individual holes on a golf course, etc?
Is Brian Rose related to Axl Rose?
Where is the widget?
There has been a sharp increase in the number of appeals involving wayspots located in restricted or limited access areas, such as gated communities, company properties, condo or apartment complexes, military bases, private islands, private clubs, etc. Despite many attempts to inform individuals that wayspots do not need to be accessible to all players or at all times—even going as far as citing previous AMA answers on the issue—they insist that the wayspots should be removed because it is fundamentally unfair for wayspots to be accessible only to a small group of players (particularly if it favors one team) and that Niantic should change its stance. What do you think Niantic can do to further educate players about waypoint accessibility and should restricted and limited access wayspots be covered by the Wayspot Acceptance Criteria?
Will there be further Mission Days in EMEA or is the EMEA section not be able or don't want to do this work?
When will the Mission Day application formular for 2020 published?
Are there any restrictions for the submission of Mission Days at the moment?
Can we get an option to sort by # of keys?
I think this would be really useful.
Do not know if it is asked before: Is there a plan to when reporting an invalid portal there is room for a short discription and/or 360 sphere/photo/video evidence upload, instead of first reporting and then put a workload onto the Appael page if there is a denail on the first report, if evidence can be given directly in some way the NIA employees who are busy with those reports can make a better dissicion on the report in the first place.
To move things along somewhat faster for everybody at NIA and for the players.
