No problem with the Nano packs, but please do keep them in the store. It would be a plus if you could choose the level of the resonators yourself. Targeting the new, as the more experienced players.
And if I can make a suggestion for another paid feature. Maybe it's already been proposed somewhere.
'Extra New Portal Request'
Considering the popularity of this subject in the game, I think a lot of agents would pay to add one extra. And there is no issue of wintrading.
'30 min double AP'
You're already doing it in Pokémon, why not in Ingress.
Someone posted about a setting to hide the store links in the carousel. If the goal is to get level 1-6 players used to the store and give them the resources to stay engaged, maybe at level 7 they "graduate" to not having the link in the carousel with a pop up telling them the store is always available through the menu right after they level up to 7. Or at level 7 they have the option to turn off the link.
From a business point of view, salience is important - but having a setting or the link be available only until level 7 gets it in front of everyone by default right when you most want them to see it. And as "Nudge" showed us, many players won't turn off the default if you make it opt out, possibly satisfying both player bases (those that want it or don't notice/mind and those that feel it is taking away from their game experience).
yes thats much better then selling weapons.. even lower lvl weapons should not be sold in the store... only exception is before anomaly they sell those character badge with some gear thats ok, but otherwise no...
Lots of stuff players actually want, some of it, even on a recurring-fee-basis.... but if all you guys can come up with, is bundles which suggest to new players that ingress is less about community, and more about pay2play, well, we know where this will end.
Regarding In an upcoming update, we're also planning to show agents Nano Packs in the Attack and Deploy carousels to help agents quickly access featured Store items, starting with new recruits or agents Level 1-6.
If store options absolutely have to be added to the carousel, I would suggest ONLY making that available when the agent is completely out of bursters or resos. And then only a shortcut to the store to that particular nano pack.
So the shortcut visibility is triggered when the last reso is deployed or the last burster is fired.
@NianticBrian thank you for being engaged and available. Hopefully it doesn't seem like these threads are just turning into "beat up on Brian" sessions.
While I agree with your concept, remember that a) the L6 Nano Packs aren't available to anyone above level 6, and b) all the things you listed are "one off" purchases. Key lockers were a great windfall when they came out, but they don't make much now because everyone has them. The primary money makers for any product are things that sell consistently.
@NianticBrian - You want new Player Retention? How about a way in the app to allow the agents to locate their local communities? How about a way for agents to easily locate new agents, so we can invite users to our communities? Maybe add something in the tutorial to teach an agent how to message agents by making sure they tap on their IGN then click send message, so the @userid is in the message so we can actually see it?
New agents are more likely to hang around if they get into a community.
Maybe just having a simple pop up that you can mark as to never see again pop up on the carousel that mentions we saw you were out of XMPs above level 5, and there is an option to buy a pack in the store (link to store in this pop up / notification) for newer agents or only viewable by agents levels 1 - 6. This would put the notification out there, and allow for an agent to purchase, but also clear the pop up / notification (hoping this would help not cause further problems with the carousel).
Having such a notification after an agent choose their faction, with a link to a "Global Community Directory", would be super awesome as well. Even geo-tagging the location and sending them to the section of a "Global Community Directory" that they are near (via that data you already have, GPS (ding, ding, ding)) would be even better, but just having a "Global Community Directory" would be killer to keep agents engaged in the game, but also in their local community, so they remain interested for longer period of time.
The challenge in my area, however, is that communities are drastically smaller and significantly less active than they used to be. I totally agree that facilitating getting new players connected would be good, but there has to be something to connect them to, and for many of us that doesn't exist in any form close to where we were a few years ago.
That Mega Thread in the Prime Subreddit is almost a year old. Many great ideas that keep popping up on the forums here over and over again. We've said our piece when Niantic asked us. We are still waiting. Heck, we are still waiting for that great backend server that has been spoken about for a very long time now.
A company can move as fast or as slow as it wants to, when updating their software or changing things. That's up to the company.
Not all move at the same speed, some faster than others. Some do great things with lesser resources than larger companies do, some larger companies do great things in short periods of time. It just comes down to the company doing them.
That's our part of the equation. As communities contract, they either need to merge with neighboring ones, or work on ways to more energetically add more recruits.
Everyone knows you can currently buy a resonator variety pack and a level 6 attack bundle right now, right? Nano pack is just a worse but cheaper alternative
@NianticBrian I imagine this also presents what does Niantic expect when a new player launches the game?
Niantic made an effort (even as a goal) to revamp the onboard process of the game which presents an interesting dossier of XMP. However, I don't see anything that pushes an agent to pursue more information. The weekly investigation on the website was nice to summarize what happened. However, that was later stopped and then pushed to a subreddit and later here in the forums.
The efforts of the onboarding are negated when not much is added for users. Sure the story might not mean much but you could still push something for new agents to interact - maybe something beyond stating First Saturdays. Maybe a time period where XM is unstabale and has weird effects such as giving 1.5x AP for 1-2 hours. Something that still encourages agents to move but also further advertise chaotic matter as a negative research of XM when it comes to these nano packs.

Any chance for another limited time offer of toast beacons?

Or other novelty/lulzworthy items that don't affect gameplay. I want a bacon beacon!
And a beacon based on a @RedSoloCup lasagna.

Show It in carrousel only If xmp quantity is low.
It takes time to implement other monetisation options/avenues. Don't think just because you don't see them now that suggestions have been ignored.

Why don’t you introduce helpful functions like markers for unique visit and unique capture on intel and inside the scanner?
I would pay for this.

Well so far the solution is "Get to level 7". Which is a pretty good incentive.
Hopefully this will be the last time the concept is used.

No "AgentName has Captured their first portal" message in comms anymore.
This is one of the missing things from Redacted that prevent new agents being welcomed by other agents to keep them in the game.
Actually, it is there, but not in faction chat. It's been moved to the general activity log
There its useless, because activities come too fast and you can't scroll back (you get thrown back to latest activity all the time)...

They have names attached to every action almost. I've met people by seeing them deployed around me and being in faction chat.
New players NEED to be shown the intel map more then anything. Makes connecting with players easier

Why anyone would waste money on level 6 kit is Jaw dropping. Glyph hack Glyph hack Glyph hack. Can get that bundle in about 5 hacks 😂
Since the packs disappear at level 7, they're only relevant to people who can't get more than level 6 gear anyway.
And once they learn that they can pull L8 gear (well, not much) from glyphing a L5 portal....
Everyone knows you can currently buy a resonator variety pack and a level 6 attack bundle right now, right? Nano pack is just a worse but cheaper alternative
Oh yes didn't read the post properly. Only two things worth buying from the store anyway; frackers and key lockers.

They’ve already provided that for us. That’s what COMM is.
How would the intel map help players connect?
