Would be nice to know what phones people are using. On my Samsung Galaxy S8+ every portal is clear as a bell. Yes, the deployed portals are larger and if there is a portal next to it that is neutral, it does get a bit washed out. But even then, zooming in fixes that problem quick.

On smaller phones I can certainly see this being a problem tho. However, what color should the neutral portals be? What size should they be, so they are easily noticeable? Maybe if people start throwing out some suggestions, then ideas can be generated.

  • Prime does not work on my old phone and i can't afford a new one, mak prime less blingbling and work on older phones where redacted still works flawless on and i'm in

  • @HonestEl as i said in previous messages my phone is a ZTE. I wont buy a tablet to play ingress.

In redacted i see all portals perfectly, doesnt matter if is neutral or captured.

@d3v1lkiss same for me the neutral portal are wery small

For me, when I am forced to use Redacted for an Anomaly for stability. It is slow

It is slow on my Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, S5, S7 and S9

These have been full mobile replacements as daily drivers, The problem seems to stem from poor support for EXYNOS

Now on Prime, that rendering lag - it is gone.

There is still lag in Prime, but these are from in built timers from what I can see, and not device specific

    or

The lag is due to old back end server code, which is clearly obvious between Redacted and Prime

I much prefer Prime over Classic, though the migration was like dragging yourself over 100 grit sand paper. It is worth the pain IMO

  • Prime was pushed too soon. It feels like an alpha to beta phase.

  • Hanging on a dead branch is aspiring for disappointment

  • If you can find a way to make white portals able to be differentiated from the scratches in my plastic screen it would go a long way towards me liking prime more - my two biggest complaints are how hard it is to see white portals,

@Digitalis We are trying to address this first one in the UI Update 1 that is currently in progress.

  • PangarbanPangarban ✭✭✭✭✭

@digitalis I'm really surprised that with Prime you say "They pokemoned my ingress". I was really hoping they would pokemon the interface, but the result is quite the opposite. Redacted has a pretty simple (uncluttered) and clear view of the gaming field (except when there are many layers overhead). Pokemon is even more simple and clear to look at. But with Prime they went with crazy contrast and content overload. The text is all but unreadable, and actions on the screen are obscured constantly.

I so wish they had made Prime with the clarity and simplicity of Pokemon, but they didn't.

  • @d3v1lkiss @Digitalis When I hear people say that neutral portals are barely visible, I always wonder what zoom setting they are using. If I have my view zoomed all the way out to the overhead view, then neutral portals are very hard to see. But I (personally) rarely use that view, and instead have it closer to the mid-zoom setting that is used when you first start up the scanner. In that default zoom, I can see the neutral portals just fine. So I'm curious, is it difficult to see neutrals only at the overhead view, or at more moderate zoom levels also?

Regarding Prime in general, I use it almost exclusively. Only when things bug out do I switch to Redacted. Prime definitely still has room for improvement, but it's headed in the right direction!

@batteryAClD i am currently running a moto zforce2 with a shatterproof screen. shatterproof in this case meaning plastic.

over time the plastic gets scratched up. not a lot, but enough to reflect light from various angles. the neutral portals at all zoom levels look no different then the many reflective points of light from the sun and environment off the screen itself.

if you play in the same areas over and over you know where things are and it is not such a big deal. rarely do i play in the same geographical region for more then a short bit of time, and so the portalscape is constantly fresh, new and not well known if at all.

i am wanting to use prime, but in neutral heavy new areas redacted is my savior for being able to see what i am working with.

on the same screen i can easily see what i am looking for with redacted...prime, not so much.

Last week we tried to throw a long link. (5000km+).

VRLA bug hit my Redacted scanner. (Link created then failed). So, switched to Prime hoping things would be better. Nope worse.

When trying to select key in Prime, the available link targets scrolled crazily. Select key i wanted then it would scroll crazily past to other keys in inventory.

It did settle eventually but was highly frustrating. In any case it didnt work any better in Prime and the crazy scrolling meant i was lucky i didnt link wrong target.

(Yes i could have capsuled other keys but you dont get this scrolling issue in Redacted).

Just thought i let ppl know in case its something being worked on.

    Phone Samsung S10.

  • My issues with prime:

    Extremely slow load.

Constantly having to sign in, almost every time I open it.

Speed lock, freeze, map with no portals, crash of I switch to another app and come back.

I find many of the animations annoying - in redacted and prime.

I like the prime interface in general, but inventory management, especially capsules is very difficult. I usually end up switching back to redacted for inventory management.

It can be difficult to see neutral portals and dropped items on the new interface.

I have also experienced problems in low signal areas that I don't get in redacted. Not often, but there is a difference.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy s9+, latest android update. Sprint as carrier.

  • daethnirdaethnir ✭✭✭

I use both so I can be honest with myself about their abilities.

Prime: crashes and stalls all the time. Good linking. Bad mod capabilities. Awful one handed experience. No "no look" experience - all the buttons are too small. No good for intense play.

Redacted: link throwing can stall for ages. Less battery usage. Great one handed, on bus, no look play.

I don't think prime is awful, it just doesn't enable as much AP per unit time as redacted.

Would love if we could play >35 mph as a passenger....

  • I appreciate that the game is due for a revitalization, but I feel the feedback from the old faithful loyal usergroup is being ignored completely. nobody is against anti cheater measures, or API udates... the catch is that the focus has moved from smooth gameplay to something heavily focussing on graphics. The result is imho way too heavy on the average device for comfortable gameplay. the user pressure to keep redacted is not on keeping the backend (I dont think any player cares about the backend at all), its on the joy and pleasure of the game.

just looking on the footprint of the APK... it moved from about 30MB to about 180MB?? Or just feeling the phone heatup from the heavy CPU load? Yhat alone should be warning signs that something is off. the new app was clearly not designed, built or user tested by heavy daily users, which are effectively the user group that made Niantic the company they are today. just ignoring that feedback is really offensive to a loyal user group.

I found the reaction to the announcement that redacted is to be terminated at the Anomaly in Amsterdam deeply indicative that you guys are on the wrong track when it comesto the on device app.

I dont think Unity is the correct basis for an app like this. Unity is perfectly fine for static games, but where the core essence of Ingress is to be moving around (untethered) and with very fast response times when it comes to closely timed operations or anomalies, Unity is just to heavy and powerhungry... as any Ingress enthousiast of over 3 years loyalty will tell you.

I would ask you to share the statistics of how L16 users of over 3 years gameplay are using Prime vs Redacted... and directly ask them why they are using the app version they do. and publicly share the results... and show that you guys are taking your faithful userbase seriously.

so again.... nobody will hold replatforming or backend rejuvination against you guys, but the Prime app is a disaster from a (my) user perspective...

@NianticScot I am using a One Plus 7 Pro with 12 gb ram (i doubt there are many other more powerful phones out there) on 4G or wifi network. When using Prime to recharge portals it gets freaking slow and crashes.

Try recharging about 500-1000 portals in a row using prime. Once you fix Prime to make it through, without a crash and/ or rebooting prime, you will be on par with Scanner Redacted.

Prime is just freaking slow. Even scrolling through a list of 500+ portal keys is superslow.

There is no point in showing all portal pictures while (mass-)recharging portals. The step between the portal list and the recharge view is totally superflous. There are many other similar UI issues. Please fix them.

Did I mention Prime is really slow?

I admit .. The switch from redacted to Prime has taken a long time, but in the meantime I get on with it quite well. What still bothers me about this is the poor visibility with a lot of sun. Even though I'm standing in the woods by my portal that I can conquer with redacted in 20 minutes, I don't have a chance with Prime there. I'm confident niantic can still solve this

  • Go OG.

  • Redacted for lv16+plz

  • h4sturh4stur ✭✭

I switched to Prime a month ago, when the cancelation of Redacted was announced at the Amsterdam Anomaly. It do have some gripes with it. Most noteworthy the crashes at prolonged use and the poor visibility. The badge scores in grey are practically unreadable for me. But recently I went back to Redacted and I just couldn't get used to it again. So it seems that Prime grows on you. 😉

  • I would pay to have different themes for the game. Niantic gave us a temporary theme on April 1 2016 with the Pac-Man version. That was fun.

  • We could also suggest Niantic ban people who refuse to "like" Prime. I guess Soon (TM) those people ban themselves, so I don't know why we'd ask that.

  • daethnirdaethnir ✭✭✭

Pac man was not only fun, it was faster and used less battery. I'd love to have it back @bigb1rd.

  • MrVulgaireMrVulgaire ✭✭✭

Please NIA save my battery : redacted themes without 3d animation

  • I liked some new things in Prime, but redacted worked very well in my phone and Prime is so slow i cant even hack a portal...

I like the game, but i wont buy a new phone just to play it.

IMO, Prime is heavy in graphics and there's no way to lower them so that people can adapt the graphics to their phone capabilities.

I wont play Ingress for the next months/years because my phone cant handle Prime.

  • Ingress Prime is awful compared to the redacted. I only turn it on infrequently now instead of daily. It stalls too much, is too slow and it's much harder to see where the portals are. It's sad really but typical of what I've seen of so called upgrades.
