Please Do Not Add Waypoints To Missions Without POC Consent

Dear Niantic:

Just because you think it would be cool to add a culturally interesting portal or waypoint to a mission doesn't mean that the POCs didn't consider it and leave it off for good reason, like that it is inaccessible or it requires you to wait in line to go through a metal detector.

Please. Don't. Just don't.

Can you at least clarify the Mission Day you're talking about?

This has happened over and over again. It happened in DC, where multiple altered MD missions had ratings below 50%. It happened in SF where a mission had a portal added across a busy 6 lane street far from any crosswalk. It happened in Philly where a long trail mission inexplicably had its start portal changed. And most recently it has happened here today at Tucson Mission Day where a waypoint was added to the McKale Memorial Center mission that is inaccessible to all but a few people who have gotten a security guard to let them into a locked area not open to the public.

The POCs have already contacted Niantic to beg them to remove the waypoint from the mission. But this should not have happened in the first place.

It also happened several times at mission days in Europe. For example I don't remember which city but at a museum they added a waypoint that required entering the museum and paying an entrance fee.

I've also been told about a MD this year where NIA added a waypoint only reachable by jumping a fence and walking along a cliff.

Is this why I had to jump that fence at Mission Day Chicago?

It turns out that initial reports were inaccurate -- it's not that the waypoint was added, it was substituted for a fully accessible portal whose name started with the same words.

The mission was fixed Sunday evening and at least 4 agents did it that night.

  • The screwed it up in Dresden, too. All missions have been submitted as "any order" but showed up as "sequence". Our CM was no help as always. The funny thing is some put one of the missions online 1 week before and it was any order.....
