Emoji

OK, I have a question. Sometimes, there are posts in this forum that contain a string of emoji, and each one appears on a line by itself instead of being embedded within the paragraph. Why is that? Even when people write "Soon [TM]" the TM is by itself on a line instead of being next to the Soon.

Also, I don't even know how to insert emoji into a post. Every time I paste one in, it disappears the next time a draft is saved. Let's try it... Soon™ 💛💙💜💚❤️

So, I posted that by pressing the Post button as soon as I'd pasted in the row of emoji before they had chance to disappear. And this is what it looks like on my browser:

This is seamonkey-2.49.5. The very odd thing about this is that I have another running instance of the same browser but with NoScript and where I am not signed in (because signing in requires JavaScript) and that instance displays the emoji in a horizontal row, as intended.

Google-chrome 77.0.3865.90 (where I am signed in) displays them in a horizontal row, but in monochrome, which is particularly weird.

Firefox 69.0.1 (where I am not signed in) displays them in a column, same as the above screenshot.

  • Shows as it should on Chrome Android.

It looks like there is some JavaScript on the forum page which replaces the emoji with <img> tags referring to twemoji, but only on some browsers. Because the JavaScript is obfuscated I've no idea what the criterion is for this replacement, but the only ones I've found so far are the Linux versions of Firefox and SeaMonkey (it doesn't seem to happen on Windows). Which is silly, because these browsers are capable of displaying emoji.

Anyway, problem is that the CSS on the page dictates that <img> tags are shown in display:block mode, which makes them appear on a line by themselves.

So this is a bug in the forum software. Niantic, please fix!
