The popularity of FS events as of late tells me it's not quite that cut and dried and there is definately an audience for X-FAC. I don't mind at all that they try this.
The beauty of all this is ofcourse that you have zero obligation to participate in it.
Right, but not everywhere has a willing community to put in the work to get those things.
My area went from people quite literally hating each other and doing things out of spite to a community that enjoys playing the game and grabbing a beer with the other faction if we run into each other. We have had a first Saturday all but three months since last December. One due to a hurricane and 2 due to imbalance between faction numbers not getting the minimum.
It just takes that initial push to get comms up to the other faction, then those other things fall into line.
I think niantic is trying to force that initial communication with these types of events for those communities that haven't shown an interest in first Saturdays, nl1331, etc events. Incidents of stuff being dropped on lawns in the shape of a "cannon", scanner comms fights and just blatant distrust have boiled down to only the outliers that were entrenched.
Xfaction works, if you have that hostile in-game play area. I'd recommend trying it.
My area is not there yet. There is a lot of old blood in the game that has not forgiven rash acts from years ago (long before I picked up the scanner) and setting aside history is very difficult.
This is a first for me with SHARD Avenir #2 9-19-2019 , I see that the Co-Op is great, doesn't matter blue or green and the challenge is coordinating links across the country and removing links from either faction to get the Avenir to the Beacon to lock it down. Takes a lot of work and communication!
Regarding the outcome, please correct me If I'm wrong:
Current decays is around 15%.
A 75% increase will make the decay around 26%. So portal will decay in 4 days
A 75% decrease will make around 8,5%. So a portal will decay in 11 days.
Regarding the Virus/Aegis drop rate, is there any official information about the items drop rate? I mean, without that information, saying that we will have a 1.5 increase is nothing....
Shard #2 should be captured in the next two jumps. Glad to see Shard #10 making some big gains as well towards its target. Shard #6 is finally moving out of Bucharest. Hopefully, it can make up for lost time. I'm guessing the plan is to move it to the Black Sea and then route around through the Mediterranean.
Currently three shards are captured and hopefully have two more captured by the end of the day. Interesting that the Interpreter shard is making its way to the US instead of going to Italy. Maybe the shenanigans over in Bucharest convinced the British that the US would make a better capture point.
I try to keep them up to date but don't know if I will manage the next jump before it's bed time here. This might mean an update might take another 24 hours.
All current shards have 39 jumps left. So even Omnicient might still make it - should it eventually decide to move. I'm now waiting with interest for wave 3. 3 more shards should appear in around 2 days.
Fascinating work, @DrThod - I wonder if some viscosity factor indicating the relative ease of sea jumps to land jumps could be calculated from the final data?
Regarding the 'stuck' shard and Milan, I would not discount the possibility that this is deliberate. Players may be blocking the shard to protest the xfac nature of the event, or because they want faster portal decay times. For me, faster decay is definitely the best outcome, as the sole highly active player here I'm pretty much blocked from gaining AP in my small city until my portals decay and I can re-field. Strategically the last thing I want is them being even slower to decay.
@Rostwold I think link lengths (or viscosity as you want to call it) is a factor of
a) portal density - inverse
b) player density - inverse
c) ease to reach a portal
Portal density and player density as sea are zero (I discount islands or light houses and similar features). This mainly leaves c) - how easy is it to reach a portal. This one can be either way - difficult to reach might mean difficult to take down. Difficult to reach can also mean - no (not many) links generated which are in the way.
Interestingly the longest link so far was across land - Ecuador to Uruguy. But any link km over a densely populated area means a lot of effort. Getting a link straight through Houston must have been a major bit of work and coordination.
For all the complaining about this being Xfac, this event is highly successful and interesting. Every Ingress person I know is watching the shard show. I have found it inspiring to see everyone working together and many have found the fun again. Don’t worry - those of you who want competition only - it’s coming back soon enough.
I'd add "value of blocking links" for the current shard game. In some cases, the defensive value of a link may outweigh the value of moving a shard through it, in which case I'd expect either faction to decline the opportunity to remove it.
There is a fairly high portal density in Bucharest and throughout Romania. So why have the local players refused to move the shard? Decreased decay time can't be a reasonable goal. Anyone communicating with players there and can give us some insight into their thinking?
The story I heard is that the city is boxed in by groups hostile to the event. Getting it out means breaking a blockade, which could have political fallout.

any site up to track all shards movements? we had that back in 2016 for tracking shards.
That was a Niantic-approved player created site (thrakazog.com). I don’t think he’s planning on tracking this round of shards.

When did the jump actually occur? Is there a record of progress anywhere?
Don't know what the plan is but this it my prediction.
This will be interesting. Can we put our differences aside and work together?
So from what I take it not everyone is gonna get the chance to collect the Avenir Shards?
Most won't

Updates available here. Two shards well on their way. The third one on Romania? Wellll

And 4 more shards out any time now.

Here is a summary so far:
Indeed - Listener and Interpreter are on their way to their target portal - if we treat the Beacon of Hope as target portal for Listener.

It's going to be real funny if Niantic factors in which cities play the shard game into where an anomaly happens...

Five shards now delivered, good work everyone thus far! ^^/
Except for Bucharest.

entonces te dan medalla sin hacer nada? o como va? solo a la secta de los kraken o fuha?
