exactly. yes this is between 2 OPPOSING factions....but sometimes it's good to look at the eyes and respect (even if it's once a year), rather than "hmm..yeah, i destroyed your portal because your teammates destroyed all of ours".
Besides the technical issues wit RoboVM, the creation of prime was to attract new players. The anime series was about spotlighting Ingress and attract new players. What has been discouraging new players over the last couple years in Ingress? Tribalism.
If we want fair competition in Ingress, we have to get rid of some of the tribalism that has been growing im some communities ober the last couple years. It's not even about the average player, but on bad egg can spoil the fun for every new player in a whole city. Xfac events and challenges are a great way of bringing factions together.
Imagine: you are a new player of faction A im a city dominated by faction B. Barely anyone is reaching out to you and if, it's mostly to make fun of you, troll you because your portals are the wrong colour. You learn nothing amd are quickly discouraged.
OR
You are a new player of faction A in a city dominated by faction B. Someone reaches out to you to tell you about a challenge/event that is currently ongoing and how you can contribute. You learn about ingame mechanics and find out how to connect with your teammates.
Many "oldschool" agents claim they want to leave Ingress after Redacted shuts down. If so, we need this onboarding process for new agents to get involved with their communities. We all know examples of toxic behaviour between factions. Most of us see this in our own communities at least once a week. After Redacted is shut down, after we onboarded new agents with prime, after those fences have been mended and after toxic elements habe been purged from our communities, we can have new faction vs faction events and challenges in fairness. And I'm looking forward to it.
I'm not thrilled about xfac stuff, because I like the competition. But toxic elements have been preventing new players from enjoying Ingress for too long. Without new players and without a new sense of community there is no reason for Niantic to keep Ingress around. I'm willing to put in the time and effort with these Xfac challenges and hope this can bring back the sportsmanship necessary to have faction batzles again.
sad, but yeah. Yes we do know its storyline and the outcome is someway has been set in stone (I am just assuming here), but Ingress lore makes the game a little bit unique. However, majority of the new players that came from other NIA games (doesn't really care about lores and storyline.
In case you missed the flamingo fest in OPR, Pokemon Go has their own portal submission now and nobody is crossing over here anymore. More likely, these same players are going to leave the game and whether it's a positive or negative thing depends on how much you enjoy going in triangles uncontested.
There's been a slow silent exodus of players from Ingress for a while now. It's a serious problem for the longevity and viability of the game. The recent and upcoming changes have deterred even the most hardcore players from staying. The player base is changing. The old guard no longer recognizes the game. If Niantic doesn't address the attraction and retention of players then nobody will be left. The only thing to do is cross faction the remaining players. It's hard to be competitive with no opposition.
@GaijinHell I agree with your post. I feel like at least in Colorado, XFAC stuff is forced time "to play nice and be nice to each other". I moved here about a year ago and pretty much FS is the only few hours every few months I'm treated like an actual human and not a piece of garbage. There's a fair amount of bullying that happens in the game here - "I'm allowed to have my territory but you're not" or "IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE GAME WE PLAY THEN QUIT". There's been other more serious things that have happened but Niantic has done nothing about it, despite guidelines having been broken and personal boundaries being crossed.
So let me get this straight. You believe that we don't have to worry about on boarding new people because we're getting reinforcement from Pokemon Go players, who will join Ingress despite having their own portal submission so that they can help REVIEW the submissions?
I'll let you think about how ridiculous that notion is for a moment.
I can not imagine cross-factional events during the battles for our world. Imagine the German Nazis in an embrace with the soldiers of the Red Army. In ingress, cross-fractional events, especially between secret agents, simply lose all meaning.

Would be great 😃
Not so fast. My area both sides have been tribal for years and forcing to work together might actually mend fences. As a story wonk this is needed.

On boarding won't be a problem, each pogo player, that cheats (so not all), that crosses to ingress brings at least three accounts with them..
That's the opposite of onboarding. I'm talking about agents understanding the game mechanics, the communities and long-term motivations of Ingress.
not that the majority ever cared much about this games story...
They already, for the most part understand what they want to, how to place poi's to create gyms, edit existing ones etc.

Ingress players review those submissions.

I want 75% portal decay!

Short term, opr would die, long term, ingress would be a fad, eventually people would level and review, and probably destroy the poi database
If something works, don't break it.
Yeah. Well, it kept freezing when I tried to watch it. So....
Pot meet kettle....
If you hate xfac stuff then why are you a mod for an xfac tg chat?

Godwin's Law invoked. You automatically lose the argument.
Hahahahaha. Yes!
Ingress is dead now it's Pokemingress.
How do you deal with the regional score ? That seem quite a big thing where i play atm.
