Those who are quitting once Redacted scanner closes...,
Come and share with us here. What's your plan at least until end of the year?
-------
I was hesitating to quit a year after I played, but I kept coming back...because the scanner is there. Pogo came and I was half hearted and left it. HPWU is good but that I can take my time to play. Many of my Ingress mates quit due to life, and when redacted is closing its door in end of Sept, I have to admit I am sighing with relief.
This would be my first game that I quit because it's no longer there. I tried Prime and I am not a fan. Because the game I know and come to love is more than pretty lights and shining bits. So we're counting days (both partner and I).
Planning to catch up with novels that I bought but have yet to be read, picking up drawing and writing again maybe, and maybe I will install Prime again someday but not that soon enough. OPR might be my main focus to still in a way help the community, but I think that is pretty much of it.
How about you? What are the things you are looking forward to when it all ends?

If you're sighing with relief at the thought of Redacted closure, why are you even still playing right now? Has Ingress become some sort of crippeling addiction that you can't shake yourself? (genuine interest)

I'm looking forward to the end of all the whining about how Prime is so "terrible" when it is actually a very good update and so much easier to use.
Me and my wife will stop playing ingress when redacted is stopped.
We have been on the ingress report and have been very active - there will be no more new portals here where we live, we are the only ones that can do that, and even pokemonplayers asks us to make portals.
Now, everything stops. It ends, when redacted ends. Just don't understand why @johnHanke is doing this?
Okay it was i fun 5 year ride. Bye Bye.
I guess I am not amongst those still having their sojo alive since day 1. So there. Lost it a while ago after a few times hit the gold badge. Platinum is nice as it is already. :D
I'm still playing for the sake of what motivated us both to play in the first place. To contribute to the local community in some way, to have extra fun in travelling and discovering new places, submitting unique portals without caring it's a opposite faction area or not.
Addiction? Maybe. I mean I still love Motley Crue's You're All I Need that I heard around 18 years ago. Or that PC game I keep re-visiting at least once a year since 1998. Ingress is a unique game for someone like me, who spent most of the time in front of pc. It brought that fresh air to our daily life. It gives a sense of belonging, without being too territorial. Agents are generally good, That is why I keep coming back.
Nah. Prime is not terrible. Just some people feel it's a bit of a learning curve. I didn't say no to Prime totally, just maybe taking the much needed break would be good. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Lol....
As I read on some of the announcements, because both of them are totally on different platforms. Even Prime was made from scratch as the old UI and most the features we like in Redacted cannot all being ported to the new scanner.
We're sincerely gonna miss it, but I guess it's time.

Version 2.30.2 is my first version i started really playing Prime.
Still freezes after playing more than 30/50 minutes.
Good things is that now "only" takes 35 seconds to start the app, in previous versions took 45 seconds.

Prime is a lot better than it was back a year ago. When it was released to the public, it felt like a house with no furniture or carpeting. Felt empty, strange. But, since then, the floors have been swept, carpeting was added, and we got a few appliances and furniture. I'm starting to get used to it. Redacted is a house that's breaking at the seams, but we don't want to leave because it's been our home for years.
I get it, but it's time to move on.
I'd highly suggest getting used to it somehow. It won't take much long. It has many advantages over REDACTED, the main ones being one handed rotation and extended field of view.
As someone who never played on Redacted, I have to say that Prime has seen numerous improvements over the last several months, and now, it's awesome. I started playing in mid-January and have reached level 15 in less than 8 months (probably quicker than most people). Additionally, I never thought Prime was "bad" at any point and don't quite understand all the whining that's occurring.
Urm...there's no whining here. Just those who are choosing to quit to share their plan post-ingress, that's all. :)
Ummm. That’s spoofing.
thats_the_joke.gif
Ha. Jokes on me. Everyone gets so salty, here, sarcasm is hard to detect.
Apparently 3 to. 5 years for some...
Surely it's not spoofing if you physically move the computer around?
haha what good is one handed rotation when you need two hands to perform majority of tasks in prime?? i keep hearing people praise this but i have literally never thought "wow i sure wish ingress had one finger rotate".
What do you need two hands to do in Prime? Even zooming can be done one handed now.
zooming has always been one hand anyway??? double tap and drag. if you didn't know this I'm not sure you're qualified to discuss what needs two hands in prime? hint: almost everything unless you have like 4" phone. all the popups on top, inventory management, mod insertions on portals, etc.
Lol, Pixel 2 XL, I can do everything one handed easily. Don't say the game needs two hands when you bought a device that's too big for you.
I've been playing with Redacted for five years, so of course I know everything about it. I can't fault Prime for the previous version being in my muscle memory.
Prime has been somewhat refreshing and I kinda like the "What? Why? Where? How? Who am I?" that it got out of me with the exact same game mechanics. Of course, the game has been very much broken for most of its public lifecycle. I still remember how I woved not to use it unless they fixed the invisible links...
That being said, I can't tell if I'm going to keep up or not. Ingress has brought me some awesome adventures, and some good friends. It's sorta brought me where I am today in my life. (Sorry, I'm being vague on purpose.)
Recently I've been either indifferent or slightly annoyed with the game and the company. We'll see if I find the spark again.
That's what I am saying. The game indeed brought great newfound friends, honourable enemies (they know who they are), and the places as well as the adventures.
I can go on and on, but suffice to say that it captured my eyes, mind, and heart and I am still here (while it lasts). I don't diss Prime, but maybe someday we can see eye-to-eye on things and it brought me back the same spirit the game did....once upon a time.
My colour-by-number canvas has been waiting for me for 7 years. And I promised a good friend to finally start on it. I hope I will this time around.
See you ingame soon(tm), mandrilli! :)
This is hard to do if you have small hands and all the good phones that are released are massive. I'm just hoping my Sony xperia xz1 compact doesn't die soon with how prime is eating up battery. (oh and I'm not quitting :) )
What am I gonna do after Scanner REDACTED goes down... I'll play a few other games a tiny bit more, I'll drive a bit less. I'll maintain a thimble-full of animosity for Niantic.
Hi OP, quite a nuanced position .... loving the game but player fatigued. .... relate .... my point of winding up my ingressing feels close sometimes (for me stresses of real life are quite a factor). Redacted may be a tipping point for some.
All the best!
My phone (Huawei P30) is shorter, narrower, thinner and lighter than yours. And prime is still unusable by one hand. But its funny how you're assuming that its MY problem when pretty much everyone else agrees with my statements.
Prime only has a few other problems that need to be fixed before it is usable full time.
Missions, and the occasional black screen, are the biggest bugs for me.
I'm looking forward to Ingress releasing the shackles of a 2013 server and client in a developmental dead end, so that we can advance with new features like Uniques tracking and new game formats.
Devolopmental dead end is by choice.
No, the developmental dead end was because Microsoft deprecated the product when they purchased it. Niantic was forced to change to Unity, and had to deliver PoGo first.
Original platform still exists.
Community still develops original platform.
Both app stores actively still accept new apps built on original platform.
Ms bought and killed the commerical platform, the last open source variants have been developed and continue to be.
Nia selected to move away from it, that was their choice.
Companies don't use community managed platforms, because when people quit supporting it, it just dies off. Your claim is invalid because it's not a commercial platform any more, just like you agreed.
Niantic is too big to use "maybe-ware".
