And these are not valid via the guidelines. Local voters aren't following the rules.

  • Because they are "dangerous" or because they dont "fill any criteria" in where you come from?

Because Niantic has said no. They make rules for a reason and it seems like some regions completely ignore the rules. Just like how Europe is complaining about Multi Dwelling Unit portals. Also the people in the U.K trying to get utility line marker posts approved basically trying to carve out regional rules which are not valid.

  • Its most likely cultural thing. Here those fireplaces, lean-tos, campsites, cooking places etc are ranked quote high due "get off the beaten path", "encourage exploring" and "hidden gem".

What I heard in Britain you can get bar accepted as POI, but here players do not even try to submit those (read: happens very rarely) because they get rejected.

Historic pubs are very easy to get accepted in Britain. Some of them are older than the USA.

Pubs don't need to be historic to fit the criteria of local hotspot/hidden gem/gathering place, it's just more people picking and choosing from actual written guidelines.

Is there somewhere that says the fire pits don't fit criteria? Very few beaches have them in California so they are tourist attractions for those places and the very definition of a gathering spot. (Haven't seen/submitted any but it seems like a decent candidate so just wondering what the reasoning is)

  • LOL

Most agents don't. You obviously haven't seen what trainers do, though.

  • There is no value to poop stations, generic picnic tables, and restrooms without interesting architecture/art added.

  • I'm talking about in a park. It literally should be a portal. Honestly.

Pavilions have them as well. Only difference from a picnic table and a fire pit, is cover when it rains. Most players typically play in nicer weather. Here is an example of a pavilion.....

If they exist in game, then people believed the same criteria I would. They should be allowed and approved.

    It literally shouldn't.

  • Safety concerns? Have you looked at a inner harbor area or a city where there is so much traffic yet you have millions of stops in dangerous areas from motor vehicles. A park with a fire pit is what the park is designed for. There is staff. Police typically check the parks. There is a fire station less than a half mile away.

Parks have piers.... they are designed to be used.

Parks have boat ramps... they are designed to be used.

Parks have all lot of real and fixed things that should be portals. That are intended by design to be used by the community for gatherings and exercising in nature at handmade objects... how does things not make sense. if you're that worried about safety, why are the park rules signs rejected by players worried about safety? Honestly.... that covers your safety concerns....

Everything I've suggested for parks literally makes more sense than people give credit.

  • Inner harbor area where portals are located right by the water. That's real safe for kids.... they could drown while walking with a phone....

Storefronts in front of stores get crowded by player crowds, one slips and falls it could bump someone into the street and they could get hit by car.... Really safe there....

Parks are intended to be used by the community for gatherings at various fixed structures. All along the parks... I think it's a better idea to have more poi's at parks. Niantic even agrees parks are great for portals! In the guide.

    • Natural environment features are allowed to have manmade points of interests. These are hyper local/hidden gems because they bring people to parks for various reasons.
    • Per guide "Candidates that are natural features(Includes pictures of landscapes as well as submissions where the subject is a lake, river, stream, mountain, volcano, waterfall, etc.; photos that include man-made points of interest - plaques, signs, etc. - near natural features are acceptable).
    • Everything at parks is allowed..... that is plain and simple criteria to be meet. For everything at a park.... as everything in a park is in a manmade feature.... per the "etc" doesn't say it has to have a sign or a name on it. It says everything at parks.

  • Safety, niantic has built in a safety mechanism in game. The radius around your player that allows a safe distance for kids with adults to stand far enough away to prevent injuries.

Religious, birthday parties are a religious activity and also families pray when eating food, looks like everything in parks meet... especially grilles and picnic tables meet it...

  • An ingress. I'm still waiting for someone to show me what kids are playing this game.... most ingress players need a car to drive from poi to poi.....

  • Niantic cares so much about hydration stations they had them set up at both gofest and wizfest. Here is a picture of the sign for wizfest. I still think drinking fountains are per guidelines. They always have sidewalks leading to them. Can be asked by all of the community. Promotes exercise as hydration is needed for exercise.

  • Forgot the image of the hydration station.

  • HydracyanHydracyan ✭✭✭✭✭

So? If it was a temporary event portal, it doesn't need to meet any criteria. Do you know they have car that works as a portal, right? Does this mean that every moving car is allowed? ...

And, if the drinking water machine you are trying to sent had a fancy sign like this, it would probably had been accepted months ago...

  • Read the AMA August 2019 answers. "Water fountains are to have a walkway to them to be acceptable." Fan fest has water stations included on the map of the park too. That is clear they are allowed. Promote hydration because exercise and community gathering needs hydration to play the game for long periods.

Here is what should be approved at parks.

Parks and dog parks have them. They make sense per the guide. If water fountains in a pond are being removed for no access. Then the one they want approved is these being they have a walk way to them.... common sense.

  • KliffingtonKliffington ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't know why I'm bothering but the reason fountains meet criteria is through artistry. They don't meet any other criteria. Drinking fountains are not water fountains and you have got to stop misrepresenting Niantic events to have anything to do with criteria. A map/location of water stations at an all day event means nothing except Niantic doesn't want people to faint at their gathering.

  • The same goes for parks and what the community doesn't want people playing all day without hydration. They meet the criteria that was updated for fountains with having access by foot.

  • KliffingtonKliffington ✭✭✭✭✭

No. What people do on their own time is not Niantics problem. Making clear areas for food and drink at their events is an entirely different matter.

Having foot access is a secondary criteria. The POI must first meet other criteria (in the case of fountains that criteria is ART) and then "is it safe to access?" It must meet both criteria to be approved. Drinking fountains only meet the secondary requirement.

  • kholman1kholman1 ✭✭✭✭

Clearly he won't listen. The NIAOPS compiled guide has what is valid he just wants everything to be a portal at public parks and the answer is NO!

  • SoylentGrienSoylentGrien ✭✭✭✭✭

The stupid thing is I've looked at the park in question on Intel and satellite. There are multiple valid POIs that have not been submitted because, presumably, they don't fit the desired PoGo spacing.

  • Where do parks have to be Art?

Where does Playgrounds have to have art?

Where does pavilions have to have art?

These are things in Parks. Parks specifically calls out Parks have "Common all around the world and encourage players to walk, exercise and enjoy public places."

Help specifically says... "High-quality portal candidates are those that help agents discover and enjoy their community" While using a park, people love the ability to have water when thirst while exploring the park....

Adventurous tourist attractions - "etc..." Water fountains promote hydration while exercising in a park and are a tourist attraction when used in the park...

Hidden gem or hyper local spot.... A popular local spot that you would take a friend visiting your community to the first time. When at the park here man, this is the drinking water fountain, get your exercise but stay hydrated.... A popular spot where locals gather but may be lesser known outside the community. Most people don't even know drinking water fountains exist in parks for recreation and sports use. More off-the-beaten path tourist attractions. If you weren't a local you wouldn't necessarily know to go here... Again most community members don't even know the locations of the drinking water fountains because they aren't used like they were decades again.

History..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_fountains_in_the_United_States Some have been around for over 130 years.... Over 50 years for animals to use as well. That is historic items for the parks that most people don't even know the history for.... As it was involved in the Civil Rights Act of 1964....

All valid criteria, making them acceptable... As well as it being defined in AMA's that Fountains must have foot access. Which they do, with that only needing to be meet to be acceptable portal as Fountains are allowed per guide. Drinking water fountains meet AMA August 2019 guide for foot access and previous guide rule of Fountains being acceptable.

  • Safe to access. Yes it's in a park and still used daily by the communities.... children, adults. Pets, etc... all use them daily around the world at parks.
