STOP MACHINA, totally lost control (again)
Good morning,
I would like to ask NIA to apply strong scaling to MACHINA.
Today, the situation has not changed at all compared to the initial situation, when the MACHINA could cross the links, it slowly made its way around the links or passing at the very moment in which they were knocked down.
Dozens of techniques have been tried to try to control it but none have proved effective.
I personally don't even understand its existence: has Niantic invented a game where the aim is to make links and then invent an algorithm that blocks them as the only thing? It doesn't make any sense, rather given the possibility for individual players to "pollute" precise areas, currently even cleaning an area is just wasted time that after 24 hours MACHINA returns more perhaps than before.
then we have to add unreachable portals, forests, mountains, glaciers, islands, etc….all red
In short, today MACHINA controls more than 8 million portals, and many have now stopped playing because nothing can be done anymore, the intel is completely invaded by red.
The red portals have surpassed, in number, even the neutral ones, it is no longer possible to make links or fields, if not at a huge cost of time and petrol, and many people are quitting the game
Thank you

Stop suffering, go and fight back against the red faction!
Look at all that AP! It's wonderful
Machina no longer cross links, this means you can box it in and take control back.
Agents also report that Machina doesn't spread very well under a field of any size. 😉
They don't cross links, but they do spread quite well under fields of any color.
Not that I have seen
You should get out more frequently. Or find a more dense area to look at. They grow just fine under fields. Those fields have been up for quite some time, if not, the red would of derped across that lane a ton.
Maybe machina really is possible endgame for the ingress lore🤔
AP is a pretty bad endgame reward though.
In the end only those players will play: in my area alone in my faction at least 6/8 players don't even play anymore, the maxim action is Recarge his guardian.
the primary aim of the game is to make fields to imitate your own faction to win... in this situation it is not really possible.
I am of the opinion that niantic's hope is that Machina will bring back old players or convince new ones, however the old players no longer play, the new ones are isolted by undreds links.
It would be enough for the number of portals (and links) to be reduced to a manageable quantity, or for them to simply be downloaded if no one breaks them first.
doing anything on the intel other than smashing the reds, from an OP to a filedArt to a surbust can't be done now.
Asking NIA for intervention in a drastic reduction of links is useless.
Closing the areas with protectors would be useful if there was only one faction, you understand that when the other faction takes down the protectors Machina invades and wins everyone.
controll the field lines while keeping everything turned on with a single reso is a waste of time, cubes and inventory space (just today I will recycle about 150 keys)
Cleaning everything for a field is a waste of time and fuel because the next day it is still red, and the value becomes crossed and red while you clean.
Personally, after the Palermo anomaly, if I have the idea of deleting the game from my phone, I can't take 6 hours to build a link of 30 kilometros
It is the players who keep the game alive, not the other way around and all these links certainly don't encourage the game.
Personally, I anticipate another Machina wipe after this series concludes like it did after the previous.
Then later it'll come back with even more fine-rune adjustments.
Don't people know all you have to do is capture a portal and keep it charged and machina can't spawn?
You really need to read posts before you comment. The machina since the last Control anomaly has ramped up. Even with capping a portal, the machina know to spread to the next open candidate. Their spread has been within hours of neutralizing a highly linked machina portal. If you don't capture the portal, I have even see the portal get recaptured.
Good, machina has been giving me something to do. Otherwise it becomes a stale game like before. The monotony of fielding is old. Nobody even cares anymore. But machina is giving players something to do. It's a nice addition, you just have to adjust your gameplay to it in order to have fun with it.
It's bots.
I agree. Machina seemed so exciting at first. I thought it could make the game in areas with 1 or 2 players more interesting. Unfortunately, Machina has made those areas unplayable. I had my city well-maintained for a while, but a week away (and too far to recharge) led to my portals decaying and Machina taking over the entire city. Now I can't even play the way I've been for the past 8 years that I've had an Ingress account. I just don't see the fun in going out of my way and spending hours clearing out computer-generated links. It's like wanting to read a novel but choosing to read spam mail instead.
Also, I feel bad for that new level 1 agent who is surrounded by dozens of red portals. It's not a good first impression.
Keeping the conquered portals is useless, the links are simply cut from more distant areas when the other faction removes the protectives.
moreover, if there are portals that are not unreachable, but can be broken by outside, they are red again and linked the next day (sometimes less than a day later).
if the portals are closed or with limited access, this becomes a problem: to give you an example, to get to the two portals in the photo I would have to spend 15 euros, you understand that it is not manageable every day.
It's not true that no one really cares anymore, I play exclusively with other players: find people to build fields with and someone helps you...
Of course Machina is convenient, if you live in the city you have hundreds of red portals at your disposal and you do something, perhaps on the way home/work, but it means playing exclusively alone.
All these links interrupt the faction game, and the sociality behind the game.
It's the players who keep the game alive, not the other way around, and machina is disrupting that. This, in my opinion , is a big fail.
Looks like I am one of those nobodys.
Players generally fall in a spectrum between those that prefer to mostly combat and those that prefer to build.
if you’re a combat type (which I consider to be someone who has higher combat stats than build stats, especially if the combat stats are much higher) then it’s understandable that you may see rampant Machina as welcome, especially if you were in an otherwise fairly quiet area.
Personally, I prefer building. The best part of combat for me is making space to build some fields. If you’re like me, rampant derping Machina is a cancer.
Ingress works best when there is a balance of combat and building.
The current version of Machina is better than the unblockable first iteration, but it’s still unbalanced.
Too far too fast.
It needs to stop spawning once a certain number of new roots have been created, and then only respawn when those roots are cleared. No Machina in a region? Respawn a few nodes. No players? Don't expand until people play in that area.
Niantic forgot to include a strategic gameplay aspect in Machina, where you could actually contain and control it to avoid the massive spreading. People claimed the Redfection idea was bad, but this has become far far worse because they put less thought into the consequences.
So #PeakNiantic
pley smaller where you really control the area or play with friends.
huge easy fields over no mans lands is a thing of the past.
This is the way! Additionally you can make bigger and bigger fields by creating new fields above after additional clearing.
With friends I can manage relatively large fields, with 4/5 res playing to knock them down, now no one does anything to us
The new game is coming out soon so I would expect to see more people leaving Ingress.
We are approaching the end of the Control anomaly. That's the only logical reasoning of the machina being rampent in the last few weeks.
I don't know that it's ever not been too far, too fast. The only reason it was not "everywhere" at one point is they disabled growth and let it die off. As soon as they turned it back on, it was a noxious red weed again.
So no, my comment is not in relation to "right now". It's always been too far, too fast.
The limit has now been crossed, some players have already quitted, others are quitting (like me), now I am more active on the blog (and I read only this post) than on the game or opening tickets (all of which I receive negative responses) asking to apply limitations at red links... niantic has fixed Machina compared to the first time but, forgetting that we are human and cannot compete with an algorithm that behaves like a fake.
The smartest thing that niantic could do is remove Machina and, if it bring it back, remembering that the Machine must still be manageable by existing players, inventing a system that hopefully attracts players but but which does not have the opposite effect of losing players.
40 minutes of work, and I can't even make field in here ... I basically wasted 40 minutes of life
Compared to periods where we had machina making links over its own links, yeah the machina has been turned to 11 again.
We then had machina died off after MKWTF ending and no more machina links over its self. Some improvement with be added to it but of course I don't have good expectations that it will be manageable.
