No linkable portals error

I was trying to throwing a link for a field but despite having the key, being just a few metres away from the other portal, having a SBUL on the portal I was attempting to throw from (and it has not maxed out links), the message says No Linkable Portals.
I waited overnight in case it was lag but it has not changed. I can throw it from the other direction. But it actually gives me a null field which I don’t want.
This issue has been around for a while and sometimes does resolve by waiting but did not happen in this case. I didn’t want to try reinstalling the app (iOS) as I would lose scans I haven’t uploaded.

I'm currently having the same problem as well. I'm just trying to make a mini starburst, but I can't link to the portal I have over 20 keys to. I'm under a field, but the links are going to be a max length of ~1.1km. Thankfully, I see I am not alone in this issue. Wasted an Apex heh, but yeah. The portals to the west of linked portal are what I'm trying to do.

This is intended, the maximum length of new links is 500m if it's under a field. It looks like you got off links under 500m from that portal, but for anything beyond that the field overhead needs to go down.
I looked on the Ingress.com/News site looking for this change, and didn't see it. I was thinking a 500m limit could be, but couldn't find any source. Could you please share the source? I'm wondering if I missed it. But thanks for the rapid response, kind of a bummer, but it is what it is!
Before the 500m limit was added, it was impossible to link under fields at all. Here is the announcement thread of the 500m linking under fields being made permanent:
During events the limit may be raised though, such as during the Echo anomaly in a week where it will go up to 8km.

My apologies, I must have horribly missed it. I assumed the 8km was a permanent change. Thank you for helping me. I took part during the Comic Sans era, but missed the regulations. Again, thank you for the help, I appreciate it.
In the situation I was facing, the portals are only 34m apart so definitely within range and highly likely a bug.
