Just went and tried this and I dunno if I’m doing it right or wrong, but it’s so hard to see anything when the box is floating like five feet in the air. Too low to get under it and too high to get above it. I’m sure it’ll get easier over time, but whatever.

im honestly curious if this is just another way to get scans. Is the phone recording any of the data as you’re attempting to figure out these glyphs?

A proving ground for VPS as a serious game feature, and not a novelty.

And also gathering data of players uploading quality scans and players actually using overclock.

And also fleshing out the 2FLA.

Premature to say anything, but I don't see me early adopting this Overclock toy. Looks like something that might be useful while on public transportation. Otherwise not seeing the value added.

I wonder if this also needs scans from more than 1 person to enable the portal?

I live in the country but have maybe 10 portals in my near vicinity, during the portal scanning event I spent a lot of time scanning each portal and meshing the portal and the surrounding vicinity as it suggests. The scans were taken at different times during the day and different lighting conditions.

None of the portals are enabled for overclocking.

What decides if a scan is a quality scan? I know lots of people boasting about just shaking their phone around while scanning so they could get their medals, but that isn't what I did, I actually wanted to provide nice meshes and scans in my small village. Will be harsh if all that time I put into it was for nothing haha

It can be done with scans from one person.

Source: I’m the only person who scans locally, and all the scans have been counted, with most added for Overclock.

If you want to ping me on TG, with a location, I can VPS activate your Portals with the Wayfarer App.

I like how you have tried to say m-ate, and it’s been censored. I know who you’re on about and it makes it seem like you’ve called them genitals or something.

this is another useless feature that does not support teamplay with those outputs.

why don't you guys at Niantic try to fix several bugs first or improve gameplay in areas with bad cell connection or try to bring teamplay back? i get it you want those scans, but you won't get it from many users.

Why even set up a farm then? Flash farming has been the usual in the past or flipping your own portals to get a L8.

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

Putting in a System that defeats spoofers is pretty darn high on not just Ingress devs teams' list but all other Niantic's Products.

Making it into a gameplay feature has been in the works for years.

Double win for both players and Niantic's Products

It would be nice if you could expose on the intel map if a portal is eligible for Overclock and if not how many scans are needed.

That would help local communities to plan mapping marathons and help you get the required scans faster.

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

This information actually has no reason to be on the Intel Map.

It is visible on the wayfarer app.

it would be nice though to see on the Intel Map what portals are VPS enabled

Has anyone managed to do one yet? I can't find the glyphs in the box at all. How is this a quick way to hacking?!😂

Seems like a bunch of bollocks to me, just another bit of testing for ingress agents to do for a future niantic game.

Too bright to see in the day, too dark for the camera to scan at night. Pointless.

So far I tested this 2 times (yeah, I thought it was a Lightship AR exclusive feature, but it seems it's not).

Attempt 1: Placed cube on ground. I couldn't see the glyph very well. Failed.

Attempt 2: The cube got out of place and got deformed. Failed.

For the love of Jarvis, Niantic. At least make failed OCs as unsuccesful hacks so we can try again. It takes a bit of time and effort to make one of these for just to be wasted by no making it on time. Or just add an "retry" button so we can re-colocate the cube.

As for now, I don't find this feature worth it.

Been out to do some scans to boost up some Fair Portals. Will see if they get Overclock on them at sync time of new Portals.

I'll leave this, in case if anyone wants to see how it works ingame:

Once calibrated, find a place with low traffic to deploy the terminal.

And the cube goes straight to where people are...

Instructions says that there's a option to deploy again if the place is not suitable, yet I cannot find it anywere.

I do like when the cube flat out disappears or the feature just ends when there is time left on the clock.

I've overclock glyphed L7, L5 and L1 portals. So far, the only one I was able to see the glyphs correctly and complete correctly, was the L1, which I did while sitting at a red light, after scanning my dashboard.

Feature could probably use some stability work (cube doesn't always appear or stay).

I did notice in order to get the 4x to pop up, you had to wave your phone around at what the portal image looked like, not what the actual portal was. This also is a pain, because if the POI has changed from what it originally looked like when it was submitted (there are portals with images from 9 years ago out there) you cannot get your 4x bonus. If the poi is a plaque on a bench and the image is just that plaque, you have to scan just the plaque on the bench, not the bench itself. Also with benches, if there are people using said bench....you can't scan it, ect. Most of the places that VPS are in, (lots of parks near me) most of the VPS portals are in high traffic areas. For normal Ingress, not an issue. To scan a portal with people present or kids present? Good luck folks.

It's worse for portals that aren't at the correct location (ie doesn't work).

Lack of VPS locations doesn't help much.

Most of the local ones are Pogo Gyms (probably because no Ingress agent actually scans anything locally, other than a single scan for the badge).

I feel like the timer shouldnt start until you hit the button to input the first glyph, need time to orient when the cube places itself weird and youre in a place thats not easy to walk around

  • joecainjoecain ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't understand why VPS is even a need here, besides leeching more free scanning labor from unscrupulous agents.

Why can't this crummy glyph box use the same tech as pogo "AR" or what worked YEARS ago for Minecraft etc?

At least if you stuff up a normal glyph you get 3 more hacks...

  • SSSputnikSSSputnik ✭✭✭✭✭

    This won't help with spoofers.

Most remote portals that we worry about getting spoofed probably have zero scans or bad data.
