Red factions just becoming annoying now.
So - was excited at first, now it's just a chore.
We have to drive around a stack and spend a lot of time just to battle the opposite faction, now we have to check for infection and drive even more in order to field.
Can red faction links NOT block at least?

The whole point of Ingress is "foster activity". Seems like this has become a roaring success.
What they might want to do is factor regional play and reduce Red Faction reproducton based on faction balance. Plenty of both other team, dial down the Machina portals reproduction. Only one team, or neither team, dial it up. If you had no green opposition, it would be interesting, so in regions where that's the case, it's useful and doing it's job by giving people a reason to log in.
Where it's not needed, it should probably be dialled back.
Brian mentioned that he is excited to see how both Factions utilize Machina, or how it can disrupt your own stuff, and its cross-linking to disrupt enemy fields and ops so I doubt that aspect will be dialed back.
The cross linking wouldn't be a problem if they did their own cross-link checking, so you could fence them in. Which would be a great strategic aspect, but far too much computing power given the already existing lag issues. Unrestrained linking that causes blocking is a bit of middle-finger to the strategic players.

It means more fuel use and more expense, which means less likely to do it which means less play.
It would be more helpful to ask that Machina links follow the same rules the rest of us follow. ie no crossing links / fields.
It's exactly what it is. Red keeps going in the same places away from where agents play, spamming **** everywhere crossing links.
I'd say, just deal with it.
It serves the purpose for the lack of an active opposition.
If anything, it isn't aggressive enough.
However it is still just one part of the PvE system being brought in
I agree. Red Faction is lame. It's too slow and doesn't take over blue/green portals. Snooze.
The reason Machina could be added without (hopefully) affecting lag is because skips the heavy hitting code - to fetch all other links and make sure new links don't cross.
When you already have an over active opposition it's a PITA.
No badge means not much motivation take em out unless some links really block your area of play.....
I love red faction. It plays more in my AO than res or enl.
You have to assume a medal will be released eventually. My opinion is to get started on them now when other people are ignoring them. Once a medal drops, agents will be seeking them out and it will not be as easy to find the stuff..
It takes so long for the red team to do anything. I'm hoping they get more active.
Tasks are coming, and it is a good bet that some of those tasks will involve interacting with Machina in some way.
I think Niantic should consider removing the automatic Red Faction activity from their game, because it feels a bit like a big finger to the tactical players. I am one of those, and i would rather play against real playing agents than a automated system.. back in the days, we would call this spoofing and botting, isn't? I hoped this was for a short time, but this is going on too long now.
Under-field linking is a HUGE finger to tactical players. But niantic gonna niantic.

the whole point of red is that they spawn in dead inacitve areas so in a way its both teams fault if they start do chaos and spread further but i still feel a badge for hunt red would increase motivation little perhaps.
it looks like it is more for occupying neutral area to prevent 100+km links to be doen withotu any cleaning effort, like they did over russia once nia removed the reds.
Not yet for active area, maybe i hope infestation events in the futur ?
I agree, red is s**tlinking between little towns, using portals (more or less) difficult to reach. The few still active agents here did not move and are NOT interested in wasting days and fuel to clean the mess. I think we will just stop trying to do fields or leave the game.
It's UNFAIR game, we are not spending money versus a computer. If we want to play vs pc bots we buy a FPS game.
Ingress was and should be a PvP game.

Frankly, I'd like to see Red get a little more aggressive: the portals ought to grow in strength a bit faster, send out more links....

Do they though? I've seen them spawn literally on top of a high changeover areas as it was on several missions in a city center, whilst an area with loads of portals that was very rarely, if ever, used never saw a single red portal (I micro fielded it to stop some opposing larger fielding, but this was weeks after red appeared)
Its random (within density restrictions), but in high traffic areas they're usually killed quickly.
