In-person conversations, player & community leader focus groups, surveys, and evaluating agent actions on the Trading Post have been overwhelmingly positive.
What kind of weird bubble are these people living in? It's like an echo chamber for what they want to hear, and completely dismissive of the overwhelming opposition here and in that AMA thread to NFT's.
Let's talk numbers. For 3 weeks in a row, the Trading Post has distributed 500 "packs" of their collectibles, limitedt to 1 pack per Ingress account. That implies that at least 500 people per week are generating the "agent actions" Niantic sees on that site.
That's like an order of magnitude more than the number of people on Reddit and this forum promising that NFTs are end of Ingress and human civilizaion.
The entire Ingress community is a series of weird bubbles and circle-jerks -- groups of people who think the way they think is the One True Way of Ingressing. Right now, there are three distinct bubbles in regards to "digital collectibles" -- a few dozen people who really hate them, a few hundred who are giving it a shot, and thousands who don't know/care about them yet.
You might think you're righteous, but you're the smallest and most irrelevant of the three bubbles. If the Trading Post project fails, it will be because not enough people care to use it, not because anyone cares enough to hate it.
Trading Post has distributed 500 "packs" of their collectibles
Has it? I've only ever seen "Out of Stock" since when they announced it.
I see new cards added to the site, but no idea how to get any since it's always out of stock.
Though if there are 500 available each week, and you have 21 of them, how many of those 500 are actually unique people? 25 people at 20 cards each a week? Maybe that number of 500 isn't really an order of magnitude, maybe it's the smallest representation from each circle we are looking at?
On the Trading Post, we offer certain digital collectibles that are non-fungible tokens (NFTs): unique digital items stored permanently on a blockchain.
And it literally says anything custom made is not part of the blockchain:
"User-created Player Cards are not currently stored on the blockchain, but this may change in the future as we continue to develop content policies and guidelines for Player Cards."
The only part of them being "NFT" is the initial minting by the Trading Post team.
From then on, they are digital collectables, same as Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic the Gathering.
As they flesh out the platform more, and expand towards other Niantic Products, such as NBA All World, those NBA cards will be fully transactional on the polygon blockchain, meaning that they will be classed as NFTs
So that article written by someone at Niantic is not entirely correct, and places an inherent bias on people.
For now, quite a lot of Ingress players are enjoying making and trading their various digital biocards
Anything made on the Trading Post right now is not part of the blockchain, period. It's still in beta and I imagine they will push more information out as the year goes forward. If they want to ever go to full blockchain, they will have to let users know.
Ok, so how many per pack? It still doesn't change the fact that you had 21 cards at the time, which implies people can have multiple cards. So 500 cards does not equal 500 people. The usage of the platform would still be in question and unfortunately we don't have the data to determine how many are using it
Count again. I have 310 tokens ("cards") because they've been doing this for more than three weeks. I used the three week time threshold because that's how long its been 500 packs per drop. And a pack is 5 cards. And drops during anomalies allow 3 packs per user.
None of your "facts" are actually factual. How do you respect yourself?
I have to politely disagree with that one. I actually think Trading Post has been more popular with people who weren't at the anomalies. Agents at anomalies are too busy doing anomaly stuff to constantly watch a website for useless free trinkets. It was the people sitting at home who got most of these things (which isn't exactly what Niantic planned, I suspect).
How did I find out about it? Oh yeah, I was at LA and talked to the SpotX people.
There's a TG group for interested people but the "popularity" there was trolling people with NianticBrian cards. The people eventually got suspended from the Trading Post. They also had to lock any booster packs because of interest with a handful of people.
Don't know where your 310 number comes from, but if you have 310 tokens ("cards"), then that is substantially more than 21! Which could go against your original point that the users of the Trading Post are the majority and the users on the forums and on Reddit are the minority. Point is, we don't know the numbers, but if so few people can have so many tokens, then that skews the number of users on Trading Post by a lot, so it could just as easily be said that the Trading Post is the minority.
Which part of "500 packs, 1 pack per person == 500 people" do you not understand? This thread has gone on a week longer than it needed to because you bringing up other things to argue with really simple math.
How did I find out about it? Somebody mentioned the first L.A. drop in a non-anomaly Telegram as soon as it happened, and I grabbed a whole lot of packs on my phone while at home and work, during both anomalies.
That's probably why the last drop of Yokohoma required a passcode they were handing out on site -- so the people at the anomaly could get a good shot at the packs before the online lurkers. And weirdly, that pack took over 10 hours to "sell out," when most drops took an hour or less to hit zero. Strong evidence that online lurkers are grabbing more packs than people on site.
Provided the TG group had 50 people, it would still be a small group of individuals.
I don't understand why you argue for the sake of it. I know the game attracts quite the crowd but it's perhaps the oddest position to take where there are no victors.

I like how the lead picture shows them holding physical cards.
at the cost of not building and selling Rabbit Lunar New Year Medal? Impressive

You can fill in this form to get some free frames to make your digital collectable biocards
Quite a number of Ingress players all over the world are making and trading cards.
They are not NFTs
On the Trading Post, we offer certain digital collectibles that are non-fungible tokens (NFTs): unique digital items stored permanently on a blockchain.
Niantic says they are actually.
And it literally says anything custom made is not part of the blockchain:
"User-created Player Cards are not currently stored on the blockchain, but this may change in the future as we continue to develop content policies and guidelines for Player Cards."
I think “not currently” is the big one there. If there’s enough Agents interested I’m sure it’ll swiftly change, but appreciate you pointing that out.
The only part of them being "NFT" is the initial minting by the Trading Post team.

You literally edited the words "limited to 1 per Ingress account" out my explanation so you could spew innumerate gibberish.

It's still in beta for crying out loud. It's only really been known for people who went to either LA and Japan anomalies.
If people watch their Campfire, they announce drops, these are available to anyone with an Ingress account.
Only a few cards and borders were attainable from physically meeting Niantic staff

For your info, I was using the Trading Post page and did a search for your name (XK150), where 21 cards appeared. Link: https://tradingpost.nianticlabs.com/en/user/UON64LUIM7S26U57REDEBJHYKOVLU4GEGISIEQIBQYE2N7UNCK7Q

Note: Frames are packs of 10 because when you customize them, it makes 10 copies of the card.
Note 2: Click the card to see the number they own.
