NIANTIC: Quantum Transition SUMMARY

To help Niantic find all the good ideas from this community - I collected this quick list of ways for parity and challenge, not annoyance and anger. (Any ideas not on here, I can add for 24 hours after original post.)
1) Keep qcap capsules' custom names when converting them to regular caps! Our inventory should sort the way as we set it up. Be super careful to not delete items in a Qcap!!
- IOW: don't add to the frustration by dropping our label decisions, and jumbling or reducing our inventory!
2) Allow more key lockers. See https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/20932/the-case-for-more-key-lockers
3) Fix Kinetic Capsule bugs. See https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/20935/niantic-fix-the-kinetic-capsules#latest
4) How about a Very Rare Kinetic Capsule? Maybe a Common KC could only reproduce common items, Rare could do Common OR Rare, and Very Rare could do everything. Formulas could be something like:
- 12 Common items => 15 of that item (+1 for qcap parity, +1 for walking 8k, +1 for not having access to the items while cooking)
- 24 Rare items => 27 of that item (same +1's as common)
- 36 Very Rare items => 39 of that item (same +1's as common)
5) 4) Keys could be changed their own category (not Common). They'd still be reproducable, but maybe agents would have to work hard, or work together, to get enough to run the program.
6) Add Kinetic programs ASAP, before more people quit without knowing what's planned. See https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/20933/new-kinetic-capsule-program-suggestions#latest
7) Quantum capsules' last loadout should be a BIG one. Maybe all replication could be increased a bit, until then - see https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/20948/niantic-crank-the-muffy-dupe-rate-until-you-terminate-them#latest
8) How about CMU so we can buy ingredients for a kcap? (Long shot, lol)
9) How about a one-time non-tiered badge for having qcaps when they ended? There's already a picture - the quantum capsule image. Text: "I remember Q-caps" and the number of qcaps you had, when they went kaput. It'll be a historic thing on our profiles.
Comments
duplicating keys should not exist.
you want keys ? move to the damn portal.
Well if agents have to get 36 or 48 keys to start with (easier to do with other agents), then walk 8k, and they can't use them until they walk the 8k, and even then they only get +3... maybe that's a good compromise between the love-key-reproduction folks and hate-key-reproduction folks.
2, 5, and 7 are not need.
This really is a list of :
annoyance and anger.
4 is about the only useful (and often repeated) suggestion (as long as it NEVER reproduces keys).
We'll there are bots out there collecting keys besides using QCs. Key duplication feature (in any method) needs to go.
"Other people cheat, why can't I?"
Also, you know you're agreeing right? @Khatre said the only way keys should be created is hacking.
Remove the key duplication feature in any method in this game is what I am saying. We've physically hacked keys for our field ops and not acquired keys through bots and duplication. Each field ops we made in Dallas and the nearby cities have a back story and sacrifices we made to obtain those keys physically.
5) is whining, given the main reason for player desire to get rid of the QCs is the key duplication. (Niantic performance aside).
Whining or not, getting rid of key duplication is NOT the main reason of the QC retirement. Simply, read the original announcement:
NIA is working on making new Kinetic Capsule Programs available in the Scanner. Ideas under consideration include refining Portal Mods into Resonator or XMPs, and Portal Keys to Portal Keys.
To me, it's pretty clear, that the MAIN reason to retire QC - players have too many of them, they do not expire, so initiatives to pitch farming or gear-related features to players (restocking weekends, frackers from stores, scan-based frackers, items from store, passcodes, etc.) are devalued or cannibalized by infinite duplication. In turn, Kinetic capsules have limited use (except from the green one), and then again, come from farming.
While I don't consider farming gear interesting, I will not really miss QC.
Except, I like keys, and will appreciate program for keys))
1: No Key duplication.
2: Reasonable programs to create gear. Some sacrifices will need to be made, eg. Mods for gear.
3: Media duplication.
4: No Key duplication.
5: Revamp of Kcap UI, scrolling through even more programs will be painful.
Actually, one quantum per account is probably reasonable.
Something else that would help ease the pain:
10) Tune L7 portals to give a bit more L8 gear.
I didn't use Qcaps for keys. I used them because my faction is outnumbered. There are no L8 portals in my faction, and not 8 people to build one. (Ocassionally L8 in the opposite faction, but enemy portals don't give nearly as much stuff.) Without L8 bursters, you can't take down the other faction - so everyone is frozen.
A VR Kinetic Capsule should just double the output of a regular Kinetic Capsule with the caveat that is is hackable only, can only be used once, and you need to complete a glyph sequence to unlock it to it's full potential.
How about this, 1 quantum per account. Every recursion adds 2 quantum to max number?
I disagree with anything that is prejudiced against the 20% of us who are mild to severe dyslexic (IOW: requiring glyphing). Everyone has different preferences and talents in Ingress. Do not hate people who XMP only, or build only, or replicate media, or do not glyph, or go to anomalies, or do missions.
I don't have an issue if accounts were limited to 1 capsule. I dunno about recursions adding more. Maybe?
Whining or not, getting rid of key duplication is NOT the main reason of the QC retirement. Simply, read the original announcement:
What about "player desire" indicates Niantic? It's clear you didn't read my statement. The reason players have been asking for QCs to be removed, for the last three or more years, is because of Key Duplication. Most of the people calling for it would have been happy to leave them if the key duplication had been disabled in them...
11) Add Ingress lore about the Qcap descrution. See https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/20968/request-stories-related-to-the-abolition-of-quantum-capsules#latest
Where was the independent polling?
Lol, I've come to the decision that I'm effectively leaving the game when qcaps are gone. I'd drop to some sort of lurker status. Level 8 gear will be made too difficult to acquire in my area. Hilariously, I would become dependent on resistance backpackers.
Thanks. It's been a good run. I've definitely gone to way more places and done more things than I otherwise would have.
You want people to get in their leaded gasoline pre-catalytic converter automobiles to spend their 20 minutes getting 4 hacks at a portal that is brutal to get to?
There should be a (read as EXPENSIVE) way to duplicate keys. How expensive is the issue.
because it won't cost the same for those who will go take down the field ?
maybe one key + one virus for 2 keys ?
that would be reasonable
I always laugh when people use extreme "You're destroying the environment" arguments as to why they need Ingress game changes
If you're that worried, don't play Ingress, or only play on foot. Or buy an electric car. Ingress will not solve or create climate change.
Perrin, that is what Niantic would prefer, (All snark and sarcasm intended).
(My box and several either side of me do not require a car except for the most troublesome portals where there is no guarantee of cell service. )
Player behavior is less interested in group goals, and more about individual goals which means the hardcore are still going to do whatever it takes.
Environmental concerns are not how to decide gameplay. Simple as that. Anyone using a "This change will destroy the environment" is a disingenuous participant.
Player behavior is less interested in group goals, and more about individual goals which means the hardcore are still going to do whatever it takes.
Maybe for you. 100% of my desires for the changes to the game are about community and group gameplay, and overall effects to the game. My personal gameplay requires no additional changes, because the whole point of playing is effort and activity.
Removing Quantum Capsules negatively impacts my personal 'ease' of play, but as an overall game level effect, it's far more positive than negative because of the fundamental shifts in every players behavior, providing a net improvement.
But sure, the average player these days is selfish and more concerned with 'winning' a game that cannot be won, because that's the world they were raised in.
Then let's destroy the electrical device in front of us first!
It is a device that wastes electricity, created by burning large amounts of fossil fuels.
This could be a nice way to have both worlds.
Climate change and the worry of carbon footprint that was never mentioned for almost a decade...
You know that's a completely different issue altogether?
I don't have an issue with the 1 QC per account either as long as key duplication has been deleted. Learned from an old school master fielder that if you want to field and take credit for your creation; you need to hack those keys physically.
@NianticBrian and the team knows the difficulties for rural and suburban players
I'd recommend, holding off deciding whether to stop playing, when the task system comes in mid to late February.
Also there is another thread for suggestions for Kinetic Capsule Programs
Both of these together will likely mitigate the loss of QCs for the majority of players
@Grogyan , with the deletion of QCs, will likely stop the smashing activities of other solo, rural agents, leaving BAFs to be permanent. Where's the balance in the game? I don't know why Niantic can find a feasible solution to delete key duplication without making it difficult for solo, rural players to access affordable access to smashing resources. First Niantic nerfs P7 deployments, then now removal of QCs? Probably use the remaining gear, play casually, and place more time and effort on other productive endeavors because this game is not as fun as it used to be. We thanked those times when we became Smashers, Fielders, Glyphers, and Mission Banner Explorers. We would also like to thank the agents who taught us to survive this game.
