Military base portals and abuse
Wanted to report impending military base portal abuse. It was bad previously, but now a major city is about to be covered for months, likely tomorrow (detroit). Problem is there are too many portals on the military bases with limited people who can get to the portals. Namely, no one on my side and multiple people on the other side can. The 2 military facilities are about to be connected, likely tomorrow. This field would likely be locked, until at least April, when the bases at least have tours, but still wouldn't stop the same problem in the future. Guess this would render 30 some odd agents on both sides unable to field.
The third portal to be used is a lighthouse way way offshore couple hundred miles away, which is already connected to both bases. Lighthouses everywhere are already way abused.

Waiting for the people defending this to show up and bail out Niantic who refuses to use OSMs data they already have to disable links from/to these kinds of portals.
If portals can't be made at schools, then military only portals should be in the same boat
I get the frustration with military bases, but lighthouses?? Abuse, really??
You can't create new portals on military bases because Niantic has taken a stand against it. But existing portals are totally fine because Niantic isn't taking a stand against it. It's an issue that will never be addressed. When only one team has access there's nothing you can do. It will lead to people quitting when they can't play. It's a flaw in the game.

new portal can be created on military bases, and when reported nia just moved it further in the base.

If you are really unhappy about portals on a military base, email the commander in charge, explain that there are pokemon go stops or gyms that might have people try to break in, then have him email niantic to remove them.
I think its more that kids dont play at military vs schools.... but yeah the logic doesnt make sense to me...
I've seen that strategy work, usually takes a group of people and hundreds of emails. Works for portals at businesses too. Not exactly the right way to go about it. Usually the recipients get so tired of the emails or even calls they email Niantic to get them removed. Dirty strategy but effective.
Sounds like someone needs to take a trip out to a lighthouse or two. Plan the trip, take it, enjoy it, and knock down a portal or few. Grab some uniques. It's part of the game.
Not quite true, factions game Wayfarer and portals still get accepted on bases.
Then you appeal on Wayfarer forum and get told so sad, too bad, we won't remove accepted portals
Tried. No response. Most bases don't advertise a 'person in charge'. You have to just email federal milotary hq and they don't know/care.
If the lighthouse is connected to land, that is fine. But this particular lighthouse doesn't have a portal or another building within 25 miles. That's just being classiest or elitist to say you have to own a boat or helicopter or hire someone to take you there.
Yes, mapping, photographing, and scanning restricted areas are forbidden. Probably also forbidden to encourage someone else to take such images.
Military bases are unsafe, because the guards have arms. If someone sneaks onto a base, they could be seen as a spy and lose their life before they could explain.
And if there is an emergency (IE: flash flood, tornado, insurrection), civilians hanging around a base playing a game could obstruct emergency services.
I believe the main reason for Niantic to allow wayspots on bases is to make money from the players. And to save money by not coding to identify and reject them. Also, maybe they like the drama over big fields coming from them.
It's not really a strategy. Technically the military base stuff shouldn't have been accepted. And I suppose its dependent on the person In charge. I've had someone in my area email a couple of people for removal of unsafe or off limit portals and they got a reply from one email (though only one ever got acted on, the other niantic seemed to ignore)
That's part of the challenge. Charter a boat. Rent a Helo tour, ect ect ect. Agents have done it before, and continue to do it.
If you contact the base commander, stuff can get done. We had a wipe of 100+ portals done of a local National Cemetery due to Ingress agents interrupting funerals. Local agents were able to figure out the information, and contact the correct person. Gave them the correct instructions, and poof went the portals. Which suck3d, but for our issue, was for the best.
True, but you also can't make this pay to win or some sort of permafield griefing. The player base is too low as it is. And this by far, the biggest problem in the game
Did it happen? Did you get covered? Cause if you knew that was gonna happen, you could've tried to move some people to try to block the way between both bases, was that possible? Idk how big the field could've been.
It didn't happen, but can anytime they want. It's unstoppable. Me and the other main guy in our area are basically daring them to make the field. The last time they did something like this. They lost more players than we did, but at least you could kayak to those portals
.
It was actually a field I warned our side about 2 something years ago. And as soon as they started jarvising and tossing from north, I mentioned it. It's a 24/7 game. They are funneled by an insane number of backpack accounts. When you can throw to a portal that can't be killed, eventually you run out of places to block with.
A whole bunch of green blockers were thrown out today just in case, but here's what it looks like currently. Mind you, all 4 points cannot be reached by our side, unless we hire a military person or rent a boat/helicopter
Ps , I made this shot, so you can see that link from top left to Canada to the bottom portal can probably be done anytime too.
Lol, it's on as I type this. Guess we'll find out what they decide.
If they lose players over it then why stop them? It's their own demise.
Lol, well I still want to play and field. What's left to play? This field is also like 8x to 10x larger and unkillable by our team until guessing April minimum. Other field could at least be killed by kayak
Niantic - just take em out of the network, including employee only portals. Yes ppl will jump and shout, but they will be the tiny minority of players.
You're assuming they want to. They've always maintained a staunch defense against removing these portals not because it's hard, but because they consider them the same as private business properties and gated communities.
Have you got an actual reference on them "taking a stand against new portals on military bases"? I thought that was the the Player Cabal deciding against them in the community zeitgeist. (Like how hiking trails get regularly rejected).

"Q68: When voting on military base portals are we supposed to vote 1* on new portals at bases? I was under the impression that grandfathered portals are fine but do not sumbit new ones? This topic has been a highly debated issue in the portal appeals threads lately. Just asking for clarification for the community.
A68: Yes. The current guidance is to one star all new Portals on military bases. This supersedes any sub-category of eligibility like gathering places, exercise equipment, etc."
The other problem is when submitted, they couldn't tell or realize it was on a base. The portal is probably OK, if not on a base, so they logged it should be a portal.
Link?
All the ones I listed are on "famous" military bases, with the military base in the name/address. There's no confusion on that, including one being the plaque inside the base providing the name of the base.
