Drivegress only players

In the first few years of Ingress players most generally walked around playing the game. At local parks, downtown areas, portal dense places. Now it's extremely rare to ever see anyone playing by foot. Ingress has turned into a driving game. The more hours you have to drive the more effective you can become. There are players that drive and play eight hours or more every single day. Has this all this game has become? The magic of Ingress is now spending hours driving around playing. It isn't what the game was supposed to be. Has this become the normal gameplay in every area? Maybe Niantic needs to incorporate something into the game that rewards non driving players to help encourage people to be more active.

I think this entirely depends on what those agents enjoy...

For me personally, cargress was the only option in the first few years because of a lack of portals and if I wanted to do something meaningful in-game, I had to drive.

Now, with the abundance of portals, it's easier to walk/bike and actually play the game.

For big OPS though, that is another case.

    Depends on market/box.

My market/box is still very much a,walk and public transportation box with only a handful of drivegress only spots.

Depends, if you're out making big fields, you're limited by having a car.

Urban play, micro fielding can only be done efficiently by walking.

We just don't have any incentive to play locally, never have. People play it how they want.

The Ingress devs teased that Battle Beacon points will be on a scoreboard, it didn't happen.

Seems like there are many more features they want to put into the game than they have people to actually implement them

Your last paragraph I think your are quite right about.

  • I think anybody plays the game how the want, since I've been under a big control field that covers the city for about 3 months, i play mostly by walking or biking, since going farther won't do much.

However it's interesting to think how much people are invested and obsessed with this game and how they don't care putting themselves and specially others in danger by driving while playing. In here we have someone that works for the post office, she delivers packages around the city and drives a van. You can see her activity throughout the whole day here and there and I've seen her many times driving and looking at the phone cause the one that works with her is my neighbour and comes to pick them up every morning (yeah, my portal never lasts too long) aaand man I think that's risky as phu.ck, she puts herself and others in danger for a silly mobile game.
