What if we were Machina?
in General
What if we could choose to be Machina? Changing text colors, I imagined what the red color Scanner would look like. It turned out great, now I want to be a Machina!
What did you think? Would they become a Machina?

Great work! Very appealing
You mean it's not similar to when we activate an apex?
Scanner skins + new "player" options on the store would be nice, i think a Machina player should be a bit more than a recolour though.
"I'd like to blow up my own teams stuff".
Somehow I think the troll aspect of anyone acting as Machina, even if it's to allow people to infect portals like a flipcard, would do more hamr than good.
I mean the little player icon. Not actually being them.
Honestly Machina avatar would be a smart store item, letting players actually be Machina though, no, never.
Machina's end goal is to get rid of any influence of the factions on civilization. It's the **** of the game itself.
It's more of a passive virus currently, makes no effort to destroy our work.
Actually, it's hindering fields building.
thats the whole idea, if neutral portals its both teams fault for leaving them neutral for the red faction to start grow
Less than an actual opposition player would, using intelligence.
If you can't beat an automated process that's just "doing it's thing", how likely is it you can beat a real player? This is why too many players make their aim "Push other players out of the game" because it's less about competition and more about "I want no opposition."
That is what's destroying the game. Not an AI that gives people something to do.
I didn't complain about red portals, I only spoke in a lore encoded way. Red don't make fields because that would be mind control. Therefore, we cannot see glyphs from Red in the portals as its ideology didn't permeate through the portal network.
I still think Red is just the Eos protocol safeguards that were installed during its challenge. The medal has a fingerprint and maybe that was the info requested from KADA in retaliation for the LA ENL victory.
You said:
It's the d**th of the game itself.
That's not "lore encoded" because "Ingress is not a game".
Well, call it the end of the factions. No fields, no influence of the factions on human civilization.
That's a bit extreme when the current machina portals die on their own accord.
I'd like to play in a role of that "3rd force" team, but i understand that it will negotiate all balance in game, especially if Machina have had another gameplay rules.
Anyway looks cool
They die because the lag would be unbearable if the links stayed forever.
But I've seen clusters die out even with links
Whenever I think about this problem it should be something like this:
1-Set X portals as the playground
2-Infect a portal (each 24h lose 5% of its health if it didn't do anything that day) => Calculation time
3-Each "y" hours the portal "decides to upgrade or throw links to the portals) => Calculation time
With these 2 steps, try to imagine what would happen if the system went on its own. Each portal have different infection times, so it's likely possible it would increase the stress on the servers, because there are new infected portals and each one may throw or not throw links. (Red portals do not follow normal rules, so there might be other other limitations, but if they spawn with 25% of health is to get rid of them as soon as possible)
Now add the following extra condition:
4-Red is not able to make fields, so not all combinations are possible.
I don't know how to explain this using Maths, maybe agent @57Cell may provide some insights, but I would use it permutations with repetition, as I want to know all the links that could be made inside a playbox (allowing crosslinks, therefore, no spacial restraints) but substracting the combinations that would build a field.
I think I would need to use some paper to figure out the base case, but it's an interesting problem (and a messy one)
Actually, the links don't cause lag, because they disabled link checking when Machina links out. And they don't cause anything more than a green or blue player would, when an Agent does the linking.
The reason they die out is because while it would be useful to have Machina available when a new player starts in an unplayed area, if Machina filled every single portal, instead of a small section of them, then it would be no better for a new player than if every portal were captured by the opposition.
An L1 player has barely any chance to destroy portals, so you don't want Machina to cover everything.
Add to that, simple processing cost. Quantums already have a not insignificant cost. Machina would be similar if it didn't self-prune.
I thought that they gave massive lag because of the stars
That's an order of magnitude larger than what you're talking about though. It doesn't lag until one portal has a few hundred links at least. And a large part of that issue with the starbursts is players link checking through thousands of links that all could block.
Oohhh ok
life skills, to produce resources by doing work with a focus on the machina, with the status of increasing skills (I call them life skills) that don't know what their function is in ingame ingress (new weapons maybe) or have the potential to be able to get *something* that can be a benefit for any faction that can master it or win PvE with Machina. 😬
Would love to have a 3rd faction to choose. That or a new type of virus, "machina takeover", which would turn an Enl or Res portal into a machina one, then acting like any other naturaly spawned machina portal- Would be great to boost machina portal growth in certain areas.
