I would like to express to Niantic how important this issue is to me. I've been a C.O.R.E. subscriber since day 1. Even during months where I barely played, I kept the subscription, because I wanted to help fund the game.
Seeing one of my closest friends get banned and get his appeals denied without a transparent process have completely stopped my motivation to help fund the game. Others will keep it alive, right?
Anyways, I will still be getting C.O.R.E. if the 500 inventory space helps me pay-to-win an event (e.g. in-person First Saturday and Anomalies), but I won't be getting it anymore for the purpose to help fund the game. I've cancelled my subscription, and if I do decide to renew, the first thing I will do is to turn off auto-renewal. I will keep auto-renewal turned off until the situation as described by the first post in this thread is resolved.
I've been playing Ingress since March 2014, I've participated in dozens upon dozens of anomalies, mission days, first saturdays, shards, and other events, I have been community moderator for Enlightened Utrecht for years, and I've even been POC for Persepolis Utrecht.
I've known Azarole in person since the day we saw a new level 1 player pop up in comm. Within a community, if someone isn't playing entirely by the rules or behaves in a way that isn't in line with good gameplay, you usually start to notice something is off fairly quickly, no matter how hard someone tries to hide it.
In the many years that I've played with Azarole, drank beers with him, attended anomalies with him, and just hung out with him as friends, I've NEVER seen him do or say anything that could even remotely lead to a ban. He's the kind of guy that doesn't even get upset when the opposing faction foils one of his plans, he welcomes the challenge because he knows it's a GAME.
This is not the kind of player who wants to win no matter what. For Azarole, community is the most important part of the game. He would never do anything to harm anyone, whether ingame or in person. I seriously cannot understand how a player like Azarole could trigger an automatic permaban, with no review and no way to prove his case.
I've never posted in this community before, but this issue affects me immensely, and I want Azarole back.
I'm also active in the area Azarole plays in and he is always a pain :). Someone with such a passion for Ingress wouldn't seem like the kind of person to throw it all away trying to cheat. This should really be reviewed.

NIA, you are drunk again? #FreeAzarole
I recently caught signals from the community that your mechanisms are wonky/ not properly tuned again.
This fair player gets a ban without explanation and IRL demonstrated spoofing is not.
That seems awkward, could you explain us a bit what is going on? Please don't send us with a kluitje in the reeds...
