Hacking same faction portals triggers attacks

On a Note 10+ with the 2.101.3 version of ingress installed. For the most part when I hack an other resistance portal I have the attack audio and effect go off. No XM is drained. I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling it. It stopped for a few hacks but still seems to happen no matter what I do.
