Now that we finally have high frame rate. Please give us a setting to enable Anti Aliasing so for example, the map road edges etc don't look jagged along with items etc
I'd rather have a patch to help reduce battery usage. Provide more of a 2d, drop-down simple interface which can run on just about any phone, that doesn't chew up battery.
I think the jaggedness of the roadmap is intentional from OSM. I've noticed that points of roads are less detailed but it looks like from certain ranges they omit points to roads so that the data can be accessed faster. I notice it all the time in Pikmin Bloom.
I know agents who quit because of headaches from Prime's color fringing (aka aliasing or chromatic aberration). If it ever goes away, I need to let them know.
Have these people tried changing their screen resolution to max?
I decided to make the change about 2 years ago to go from 1080p to WQHD or the full resolution of my device. This has made playing more comfortable, a lot less noticeable Aliasing too.
Osm is nothing but a database of data. Osm itself doesn't render anything. All maps in Niantic games are generated using niantic's tile renderer. They have full control over the look of it. Differences that you see at different zoom levels is 100% niantic's fault. OSM database has no concept of zoom.
OSM has APIs that allow their data to be displayed as what you defined it as. I do this all the time through Wikipedia as they a map service that uses OSM. OSM also has zoom levels that are similar to S2...
🤦 Niantic does NOT use live OSM service. They use a downloaded planet file from like 2018 and generate everything locally on their servers.
Niece your linked wiki article is talking about tiles and pixels. That is not what OSM database is. It is for a renderer based on Mercator projection.
You are smushing OSM which is a database, with a map tile renderer which happened to be using OSM but is not OSM in itself. They are closely associated but they are not the same thing.

Maybe increase your screen resolution.
I don't have problems with Aliasing on roads.
But do have Aliasing in on links

Hope @NianticBrian relese Anti Alusing soon.
Well, make a thread! I want my game to look all fancy smanchy
I prefer the full 3D experience.
Currently Ingress has 2D assets that just look out of place when the rest of the game is in 3D

The roads are rendered inside the game engine, they can enable AA amongst other fancy features though
But the rendering comes from what's in OSM? At least it's very noticeable with Pikmin Bloom.
What I'm trying to explain is this. Look at the jaggyness of the road segments, especially the interstates in the thicker yellow color:
Then, when I zoom in a little bit more. It's actually in clearer detail:

I don't know if that's possible from vanilla Android. Would that be similar to changing the dpi?

Don't you smh at me with an attitude. You're the one misunderstanding me. I never said anything about using any kind of live data from OSM.
You still have to know the functionality of OSM to produce any content from it.
