As someone who started during the pandemic and made all the way to a recurse an back to lvl 10. Im not sure i will stay if CD is that long. it will take away alot of reason i play the game (to walk/move)
Do I want to wait 5mins to be able to hack a portal again? No.
Will I do it when needed? Probably?
For the other cases: I'll just switch to another app and play less ingress. If that's what they wanted, congratulations 🎊
I'm playing the game since it was available and with fewer players you need lower CD,since you need to hack more.
If you're a lucky person with a couch portal (it's time to move) or use multiple accounts wait times probably don't matter.
When I play in the city and want to create fields, the most annoying thing is to have to wait for hacking again because you need more keys.
If you're in a dominated area and get your gear from your opponents couches (that they upgraded with their multiaccounts), then this change is terrible.
This reply is not popular, what it is, is it outlines what Ingress had for 8 years prior to the covid-19 pandemic.
The 8 years when Ingress was super popular and fun, and hasn't been as much since covid-19.
It encourages you to strategically plan your time. (our time is precious)
Encourages you to keep moving, by not loitering. (Never worked for me for either the short or long wait times)
Very Rare Heatsinks now can do what they are intended. The additional waiting of 100+ seconds means you could scan a wayspot if you desire. Scans take a minimum of 15 seconds (I already do scans, can often do 2 scans without stopping as I walk by when Hacking)
Using frackers for key farming, helps with Ingress's income (ironically enough, I haven't used a fracker for farming for 4 years)
It also encourages you to not stay in one place, walking between 2 or 3 portals. (not always possible, especially in the suburbs or rural locals when there is often only 1 portal)
Than I feel sorry for you, RNG is a thing.. but the heatsink allows for farming by doing something with xm. Its something Oliver Lynton-Wolfe has stated, and he is the one who invented the heatsink.
Of course not, they play their own “beta” servers. Which is why updates go live with issues all the time.
I’ve had enough. Cancelled my subscription once again. I had plans to recurse at 300 million for the 7th time, to the opposition, because there already is too little turn around, but I don’t think I’ll bother.
They can’t even fix the game so we can actually play, defense is impossible, I tried the past few days, the game lags out all the time.
I’ll be amazed if the game lasts until year 11 as is, they must see player activity diminish, right? (Well maybe if they’d care and actually monitored it…)
It takes away the fun I have playing ingress. What's the point to wait instead of playing. And I don't understand why I have to wait longer for farming by the opposition, it makes them more stronger.
Why? Why do Niantic think that this will be good? Niantic, hear us! Do the right thing and listen to your players! Listen to what WE want. Why ”fix” something that people like instead of fixing the countless bugs? Show us that you care about your players now Niantic.
I could understand this change if Niantic would get 1$ for every minute that an agent spends waiting for portal cooldown. But this is just lose-lose: agents lose their time and Niantic loses the goodwill and enthusiasm of the most active agents. Not sure how much longer I keep my CORE subscription.
have listened to Agents’ requests and feedback via a variety of avenues.
Do you mind sharing a few of these avenues @NianticBrian or @NianticThia as the decision clearly isn’t popular so I wonder if you’re listening to all agents or just those who agree with you.
Increasing cooldown is the worst change imaginable. Pure evil, Niantic. Please heed your players and don't make arbitrary decisions. No good can come of this. Maybe you want people to play less?
I played more since it was reduced to 90 seconds and always considered sitting around waiting aimlessly for long cooldown previously to be most unpleasant. We are supposed to be having fun. Will be playing much less now, and likely cancel Core subscription. Not happy. :(
Ok, there seems to be a big difference between listening and caring. Niantic may have listened but doesn't seem to care.
Having read through this thread up to this point, apart from a very small number, the picture is very clear, so, Niantic, if you care a just a bit, you really need to reconsider.
Yeah, fun farming oppositions farm and take it down. Oh wait. They are screwing with the mechanics more than they realize by differentiating between own and opposite faction portals.
As you can clearly see, it doesn’t matter one bit what anyone thinks or wants in the game. Niantic will shrug and push it through.
We’ve seen it with the ability to purchase gear, man the outrage the first time around. That was back when Niantic cared a little, as they rolled it back and said sorry.
Now at least they moved the buttons from the carrousel, but it’s still there, and nobody seems to care anymore. It’s the same with linking under fields, we can do whatever we want, it won’t change.
Wayfarer is the same way. All the **** we spent hours and hours keeping out the game is being accepted left and right, and Niantic is on the sidelines cheering it on. SMH
you both disliked nearly every single comment on the first two pages, yet, not a single comment. If you feel so strongly about the issue, any reason you're not sharing the reasons for why you think this is a great idea?
I said before,i was waiting this change(it was announced). I knew it WILL give negative feedback, just like this. And now - now i want to see if NIA will react if noone wants this change. If they hear us,or not.The most "visible" case to see what will (won't) happen.
The “karma” system on this board is another joke, I’ve had so many “disagree” that don’t make sense! Post a bug, people will disagree, like how are you pressing that button, and why?
People even get triggered by it since you can clearly just alter the url and see who did it, it’s kind of funny.
I started playing the game in 2020 when the 90 second timer was already in place, and recruited several friends and family to play, so for us, the 90 second timer has "always" been in place, and even then we already use HS to reduce the tedium of sitting around waiting for a timer to expire. From the point of view of new players, this is just a change to make the game objectively worse.
You didn't listen to PoGo players about the interaction radius nerf until a large amount of us actually stopped playing. So here's my reaction to this nonsense:
The game has been on easy mode so much with fast hacks that you get rinse and repeat fielding play, heat sinks often junk modded, small farms don’t need heat sinks, etc.
If you don’t want to wait around at a portal, then don’t… use heatsinks, keep moving, collect keys over time, use frackers if you like spending $, use multiple anchors… and so on
The reduced cool down has actually enabled play and made the game fun.
Previously it was so boring waiting forever to hack keys, a 5 minute cooldown fostered static gameplay where a user would not move for a long time.
The 90 second cooldown allowed people to get keys quickly and not waste time. This created efficient and fun gameplay.
5 minutes is okay for those that **** link or make single layer fields. But for those that play smarter, making nice multi-layered fields to maximise their efficiency and gameplay, 5 minutes is too long.
Personally, I have spent thousands of dollars on Battle Beacons (almost at 2,000 BB interactions) and was happy to do this to increase efficiency because the cool down enabled efficient gameplay. Now that the cooldown is going back, it reduces the efficiency and replaces it with arbitrary wait times - which makes the game less fun, and gives no reason to spend money on BB's anymore.
The discrepancy of cool down time based on which faction the portal is will also hurt the player base. It makes it difficult to stealth farm, players in opposition controlled areas will have a hard time getting gear to actually play, and cross-faction events (like First Saturday) will be negatively impacted as people won't be able to play together or get gear equally.
Speaking of First Saturday, if Niantic thinks this is an uproar on the cool down time, wait until people learn the truth about First Saturday and learn it's Niantic fault.
Any way, this change only brings negativity towards Niantic. It's clear they don't listen to players, and don't play the game. So if Niantic don't care, that same sentiment will be carried across to the players, which means a big drop in the already dwindling player base, less in-game purchases and a drop in CORE subscriptions. Financially, Niantic will lose a lot of money on this decision alone.
I do understand how this affects gameplay and it can and will change some communities in how they play. Frankly, I don't have all day to sit at different portals, farming keys and gathering gear, etc. Others do and that will start to have an affect on certain areas. I just don't think all areas have the numbers to support a change like this. It's been enough to try and keep up with some of these agents during covid who are either retired or just have the time to play all day long. I don't and this change will definitely change my interest levels and my attention span in regards to what I mentioned above. Not saying I'm quitting, but trying to post something other than this sucks and I hate it and try to look ahead at what this change means for myself and other agents in my area. If Niantic is really trying to get more people playing this game, I'm not entirely sure this change aligns with that intention.
Someone is always going to feel like they weren't "listened to" because diversity of opinions is a thing, and those opinions are often in opposition to each other.
Also, dissatisfied people tend to be (far) more vocal than the ones who are satisfied.

What logic is there to revert this ? It is not like i will be more social when glyphing at night. Do those that decided this play the game at all ?
Heatsinks immediately zeros the hack cooldown timer for just the person who deploys it, if you are just after 1 or more keys.
If you are wanting to key farm, then just like before the covid-19 pandemic, we have to plan our time carefully.
Else, there is this neat item that has not seen usage for the last 4 years
If we want the cost to come down for these, then sure ask @NianticThia
Maybe ask to have one be included in the CORE Subscriptions
Of course not, they play their own “beta” servers. Which is why updates go live with issues all the time.

LOL at all the rage over this decision.
Where was this level of angst (other than IFU) when niantic decided to allow under-field linking?
Why? Why do Niantic think that this will be good? Niantic, hear us! Do the right thing and listen to your players! Listen to what WE want. Why ”fix” something that people like instead of fixing the countless bugs? Show us that you care about your players now Niantic.
Anyone else want to explain to Tim that niantic doesn't come here anymore?
It goes with the they want everything move that has been pushed the last six months.
My box that means more moving. More aggressive play.

Bad call. Really bad call! Adds nothing but boredom to the game.

they won’t reply. They won’t do anything, this is a ploy; you can’t have issues with your game if nobody is playing anymore ;)

Oh great, yet again Niantic sticks it to rural players. Now I can only gather keys at half speed I guess I won't be needing that CORE subscription

They said they listen to agent feedback, not that they obey it.
You and a whole lot of people need to learn that game design is not a democracy.
