Question is will they always stay free or will they only sell them later on ? seems weird to me introduce something they could earn little extra money from since core doesnt seem to be enough or niantic saying no to money? lol
Jokes aside, I think this is an interesting change. This now means this will become even more normal:
These will just run on people's phones non-stop churning out VR gear via adventure sync(Google Fit) exploitation. I think it would be good if they balance this by putting a cap per day/week/month on total items you can build with kcaps. I won't try to aim for a target number, Niantc can work out the balancing over time.
It's worse than that. Some guy in xfac posted steps on how to edit the Google fit data directly as a watch/step counter, which Niantic will have a near impossible time identifying. Basically, 1 VR item per 8k per backpack account with zero effort.
Today the drop rate seems pretty low... 1 hour of straight perfect glyphing nonstop has yielded zero capsules... With drop rates like this I wonder which method players will use....
I'm guessing by the end of the week/month these items will promptly pop up into the cash shop so Brian Rose can buy his next Tesla.
The hackability is also a massive lost opportunity to drag Ingress out of the "just scraping by" category and get some real resources into fixing the lag. Both PoGo and Pikmin have only purchasable equivalents with only extras being given on level up "sometimes".
Hackable kinetic capsule won't affect how I play by much since I am literally the only active agent within 30 mile radius. But, it's exciting to see something new in the game.
I see why people disagree with you, but anyone that thinks that will not happen, speak up now I guess.
They will **** the quantum capsules, they're no longer sponsored and this tweet by BrianRose:
TBD, but prepare for it I guess. 'The overall cost of running the interest calculations across every account.' Heck, they might even 'fix the latency' by freeing up resources on the shared VPS's xD
Stopping quantum capsules will change the game in a good way. People with dozens of backpacks churning gear daily have a gigantic advantage. Legitimate players can't compete with those kinds of resources and often give up. When they first were introduced it was great but then the abuse of the item started happening. They ruined it for everyone. It's time to end them.
Well I don't know about the 'gigantic advantage', I think the amount of 'backpack quantums' will be lower than expected. And since VR items no longer duplicate, they'll have marginally more shields/heatsinks. The major impact will be with key duplication I'd say, in either case, it will be changed; i think even removed from the game.
The ADA program requires a Jarvis, and vice versa. And neither replicates in a Quantum capsule.
So you're not getting MORE virii, you're "just" swapping one for the other. For players that are in faction-dominated areas, that would be a minor blessing.
there already is a cap on amount of km’s in a week for the normal one, my guess it will be the same for the others as well. What, 56km per week or something?
Probably because you can hack them and they have a “rare” drop rate/rating? Because of different programs? Maybe they will be a “very rare” one with even better programs.
I'd much rather see gear lockers. Basically a key-locker for gear that allows you to store excess stuff off-inventory. One time use, 100 items in, then you have to break it to get the gear back. Can't have more than 5 full ones.
I have not used Quantum Capsules to duplicate keys because it's faster if I hack keys with the proper mods placed in portals. What about agents who don't have access to P7 or P8 farms or their farms are taken down immediately by the opposing faction because they are outnumbered? Surely, they need to have resources like QCs to duplicate XMPs to take down a field or strategic portals.
The problem there isn't the Qcaps, it's the backpack accounts. Backpacks and alts build farms by themselves, rural players can't keep/build farms and end up gear starved without Qcaps.
And it will be as with current scout controller. I've scanned witout a second medal(+-200) ,and somebody will gain it "just because they were in time not me"(actually thats my demotivator of scanning more)
IMO if Nia decided not to fix multi-qcap issue but also gave recyclable qcaps, - i will just use what i can use legal,If that thing dropped,ok,iF no - nevermind.
But if they gonna give that theoretical medal AFTER new qcap implementation NOT using stats before - i really think that is ****.
So i vote against, because i've seen how that works
and so forth. Just over 1,000 hacks since the hack rate was fixed, got 6 of them currently. Most came from good old tap hacks. Also picked up a bunch of other ****. After 300 hacks, I got a standard blue capsule (go figure). Got 3x ADA, 3x Jarvis, 2x SBUL, at least 10 Aegis, 10 Hypercubes, and a **** ton of other mods. In the just over 1,000 hacks, I didn't get any VRMH, VRHS, or quantum capsules, but I got everything else you can hack. Weird drop rates.
Also, I wonder how much gas everyone is burning to get said kcaps? I used a few gallons. Granted I do have to drive to go play Ingress. But I did burn a few gallons to get the hacks in. Wish I could of just bought 'em then drove a few miles to go walk around the park and hatch 'em. Errr, complete them.
While on the kcap topic. Do we think that Niantic might raise the total KM walked cap for the kcaps? 40 km will come quickly if you are running multiple kcaps at the same time. Will the 40 km cap for the kcaps cause agents to walk less?
*Edit Hacks are approximates (ie not exact) based on where I was hacking earlier today. I know the about total hacks for certain areas.
How many kilometers or miles do you have to drive to get the rare kinetic capsules? Some players reside in an area with very limited portals, and they have to drive to the nearest urban area to obtain rare kinetic capsules.

Niantic just said "hold my beer".

Thanks for the development NIA!
...Lol the speculation always so grumble ...
Simple thoughts from me:
I am keen for this new item. A new hackable item!!!! It's a happy day!!!!
Please change the virus recipes. All the current ones accomplish is rebalancing.

My man *taps the shoulder*
Whatever, just no VRLA.

My primary suggestion for new patterns remains the same:
The hackability is also a massive lost opportunity to drag Ingress out of the "just scraping by" category and get some real resources into fixing the lag. Both PoGo and Pikmin have only purchasable equivalents with only extras being given on level up "sometimes".
@NianticBrian does Ingress not like money??
I would not buy them because it's pay-to-win.

has anyone hacked one yet ? seems nobody has if its live..

Nope, but I have done like 6 hacks or something. :x
Brian reported on twitter that the release was bugged and being looked into....
The ADA program requires a Jarvis, and vice versa. And neither replicates in a Quantum capsule.

Ah, the good old Twitter feed being more useful than niantic/ingress specific platforms. ****.

@NianticBrian @NianticThia
Way rare when destroy after 3 times and common are better now.
Please switch hacked Kinetic Capsules to common and the common Kinetic Capsule to rare.
Probably because you can hack them and they have a “rare” drop rate/rating? Because of different programs? Maybe they will be a “very rare” one with even better programs.
the other one is common because everyone has one.
I'd much rather see gear lockers. Basically a key-locker for gear that allows you to store excess stuff off-inventory. One time use, 100 items in, then you have to break it to get the gear back. Can't have more than 5 full ones.
Maybe request it in a separate topic if you haven’t already?

A new Kinetic Cap program that would be appreciated by rural agents:
Suggestion #1: Input L4 or higher Bursters to get L8 Bursters
Suggestion #2: Input L4 or higher Resonators to get L8 Resonators
The problem there isn't the Qcaps, it's the backpack accounts. Backpacks and alts build farms by themselves, rural players can't keep/build farms and end up gear starved without Qcaps.
now only one medal is missing, to motivate agents to get this capsule and use it.

650 hacks to get 1 rare kcap
50 hacks to get 2nd rare kcap
25 hacks to get 3rd rare kcap

Hack or glyph hack?
Mostly tap hacks. About 120 ish glyph hacks on L4 portals.
