Why? Why, Mr. Anderson, do you keep playing?
There is one thing that I have not been able to understand in 10 years. There are agents who constantly like to take level 16, go through recursion and do it all over again. Wherever these people go, they will always have a scanner in their hands. They will capture any gray portal and repel any enemy portal if possible. They do not care that the process is monotonous, that having received recursion, they will have to start all over again and there will be no reward. Why, why are you doing this? What for?
I know many people who walk like zombies with a scanner. They don't need a plot, they don't need anything new, they don't need a reward, they're used to repetitive action. But both for me and for many other agents (including those who left the game), such gameplay does not bring joy or pleasure. We are happy to conduct special operations for fun, we participate in the story, we are waiting for news about innovations. And stupid grind numbers in the profile or constant recursions are incomprehensible and meaningless for us.
I can understand an animal that seeks to mark its territory, this is an instinct. And I can understand those players who have some goal: to pass the next level, improve their skills, get some legendary item or epic hero, climb up the rating. But all this is not here. There is no reward for recursion, there is no reward for getting 9999999999 points on your medal. Why these monotonous repetitions of the same actions?
Comments
Because they enjoy it.
Why do you keep complaining about a game that you don't seem to enjoy rather than moving on? I could draw a similar conclusion...
If I'm going to play anyway that AP may as well go to a new iteration. And I'm going to play anyway.
I wish I knew because it's annoying seeing new topics from him that is complete nonsense. Ignore function doesn't prevent seeing their new topics.
No reward for recursions?
Well I guess I've got 120 VR heat sinks, 120 VR multihacks, 320 VR shields from ghosts on the way
Remove ghosts from the game right now niantic! Not cool!
The majority of my AP came from my (very) meandering walks and bicycle rides between home and work.
I enjoyed (needed) the physical activity, and the changing game board provided the motivation to take different routes each day.
I could have just as easily spent the time walking on a treadmill, but that's less interesting than being out in the world.
Still I don't know what the op is trying to get across (if anything). There's many different ways to play or interact with the game. Of course it's been repetitive for 10 years. The badges beyond 16 have been a personal journey (or even still a group effort) for a lot.
It amazes me that this community has people who care about what other people do when the people can't even value their own fun with something. OP is an example of the attitude that Niantic wanted to avoid especially with other toxic behavior that was present in the game.
I keep playing Ingress because there is no other PvP/FvF game available.
There was Delta-t, which was a fantastic companion to Ingress to have international faction battles.
And
Catan World Explorers, where the devs lost sight of what makes the board game, compelling as a strategy game.
Instead the AR game market is littered with collection games, yes even the NBA AR game is a collection game, even though I have no interest in playing it.
I did reinstall Pogo a couple of weeks ago for a couple of minutes, and got bored of it super fast.
Love recursions, its a motivation boosting thing on the side of main goal which is chasing onyx badges (along with their wings)
I keep playing cauz i enjoy the game
Still i miss Catan WE...
Ingress is a strange game.
The game is closely linked to the real world.
The greatest reward is the wonderful world that opens up when you close the scanner and look up, and the honor when you succeed in something.
100 individual values, shiny, rare legends, etc.
You are your own character, not a fictional creature.
And the more you play this game, the more time you spend with your scanner closed.
Anomalies and strategies are discussed with other players to win.
On Mission Day and First Sada Day, you will discuss with the officials of the town where the event will be held, and go to the shopping district to ask for their cooperation.
You are supposed to be playing in an augmented world with your smartphone, but you are inextricably linked to the real world.
And you will meet many friends in the process.
It is a very mysterious game.
That's why it attracts so many people.
But if you don't understand it well, too bad.
Why do you keep breathing? Day after day of breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out... it's so monotonous. Why?
@GreenVam , your point is taken when there are a lot of zombies walking around with their scanners. When I started playing this game, I was excited to learn about its lore and plot. However, seeing Niantic's current direction regarding monetization, lack of recursion incentives, and how toxic other players dampened the enthusiasm for the game. If I would be given the chance to reset again, I would say, this game is not even worth playing or fighting for. Wouldn't even recommend it to friends or family. Just finishing what I started and that is all to it, but at the current state, I think the game will close before I reach the end. I just feel bad for new players out there, if there are new players....
The recursion is what keeps it interesting. Gives me a sense of progress.
Leveling up and getting gear. :)
like we dont drown in gear normally anyways ? and we have drones so i find that statement odd...
sure, but you don't get Apex for free unless you level up. The loadout kits are nice, when I play active I go through quite some gear weekly.
Level up kits > drone hacking
Q: If you can't understand why players continue to play... why are you?
I open game reviews, and in many I see reviews that this or that game is a boring set of 1000 grind variations. This is also heard about games from Blizzard and games from Ubisoft, and yes, many gamers agree with this, they write detailed negative comments and the rating of such games falls in online stores. But for some reason, when you talk about the fact that recently our ingress has become stupid, a grind without a plot and that our game is not interesting for most new players, there are always a bunch of regular players who say that everything is ok, the game is in perfect order and "if you don't like it then don't play this game." Why does our game's fanbase currently consist of people who overwhelmingly don't accept change? And all those who wanted change have long since left and no longer play.
@GreenVam I enjoy Ingress because I get to choose my own path, strategies, and goals for playing the game. It's not boring or a grind for me because I do things that make it interesting for me. Sometimes I create challenges for myself. Some years ago I decided to race my platinum explorer and guardian badges against each other, which meant I had to get 5000 unique visits in a month to beat guardian. That was fun! Sometime later I decided I wanted onyx purifier before platinum builder and busted (posterior) to make that happen. That was fun too!
My interest in Ingress doesn't come from storyline (ugh, for me) or having new things constantly added to the game... it comes from the inherent competition between the factions.
Here's a parallel. I've played both backgammon and poker fairly seriously for a couple of decades, including a stint of making my living from poker. Neither of those games has a storyline and they don't constantly have new stuff added to them, and yet they are both fascinating games that a lot of people play regularly. I'm not a chess player but that game is the same... the rules don't change, the game doesn't change, there's no plot or storyline, and yet countless people play the game constantly.
If Ingress is interesting to you without constant modification then perhaps another game would be more to your liking?
Seriously, I don't understand why people still play this game if they are miserable about it. It's like they make it their job to hate everything Niantic does.
It's just you have to be self aware of what your energy is being put forward to. I understand people are passionate about the gameplay but at the end of the day, reality hits a threshold. If you know about spoon theory, your spoons are depleted for the day. Maybe this is where Niantic needs to see the mental aspect of their games because I know Pokémon Go has the same results.
I don't know. I know Niantic has issues. This is no way of defending them but my comments are usually for other people to think more about the issue - at least form a solid idea. I don't want other people dealing with toxicity just because I've been there.
Some are probably playing the game to finish what they started or they are involved in a current bet wherein they are betting that Niantic will close this game down before they reach the highest level and retire from this game for good. While some are still hoping this game will turn around. Well, good luck with that because I already made my bet.... :)
exploring everywhere.
i wouldn't know Paris that well without ingress
A question.Do you know any RTS on phone connected with real world? For me Ingress is strange game, with espionage notes(c'mon, you are an Agent of secret organization fighting for future, sounds cool). Grind - well that's main mechanic, you should grind in almost all online games to have useful items.
And yes,Ingress is addictive a lot. Should I go to portal in some dark place when air raid siren is on or it's restricted time - no,it is dangerous and silly. Will I do that - yes,if I need it. If You have no such addiction to keep your territory your color,or to remove opponents fields - why are You asking this question. As example,i have a friend who leveled to 5 and quit simply because "it's boring to act the same", but for him browser afk game isn't boring.
A plot? Forget about it for now,i personally think almost all players can tell "oh,Ingress had a plot?" and laugh. Enjoy the process, evening walks in beauty places etc. This not mean I am not interested why should Enlightened or Resistance struggle if there's no shapers. I am just waiting with hope that we will have new chapter of that good story.
Still waiting on an answer for this one.
Hé just likes to gaslight threads.
Great, now he's going to make another thread about THE SAME THING
I rarely open a scanner, because the sacred process was spoiled by developers. Imagine that you went into a coffee shop daily to drink a mug of natural arabica. But somehow you began to notice that your coffee began to smell unpleasant, you began to lack caffeine, and suddenly the seller of coffee changed the name from coffee to a coffee drink. And then he began to offer you a drink based on the root of chicory with the aroma of coffee. Do you have such a drink in a way? Especially if your brain asks for another dose of caffeine. You will drink this new crafting muck only because of respect for the once pleasant memories of how you used to drink natural coffee with pleasure here? I doubt. You will look for another coffee shop nearby, and if there is no one, you will demand that normal coffee return to the menu.
So I want the ingredient that was removed from our game. The battle in the real world with spying elements, a strong plot and a specific goal. And therefore I am sitting here, trying to reach out to local leaders, in order to return to our beloved dish the same taste, and the same aroma, and the very invigorating effect.
I do not want to use ingress substitutes, I need an ingress with a battle, with the development of the game world, with the plot, with a visible and feasible purpose, and other components of the game.
In the meantime, I can’t do this. It is useless to cover it again, as a helicopter will fly in that evening and ******** the field.
That's how it all comes out. And the other game has not yet been invented with the same game.
Dear interlocutor, I love natural products of the corresponding quality and extremely unacceptable fakes. Such fakes are unsafe and, although they resemble the original, they are extremely disgusting in essence. It is unfortunate that in the modern gaming industry, such surrogates began to appear. For example, I love cheese made on the basis of natural milk, but I will hate product of cheese based on palm oil and chemical additives. I love coffee, a high -quality blend with a rich taste and smell, and most importantly with caffeine, and I do not accept decaffeinated coffee and coffee substitutes. I understand when people, to the best, of course, can drink high -quality sustained whiskey or beer, but unacceptable the snobs of blooming analogues from non -alcoholic substitutes. I like to listen to opera tenors and my ears are twisted into a tube when listening to some kind of burry and whispering rapper. I am crazy about interacting with a beautiful lady, but I feel sick from inflatable or latex analogues.
I appreciated the same thing in Ingress. This "product" had previously a sagging effect, which, by the way, caused a strong dependence, but over time it began to deteriorate, in every sense, our once shining game became rusticated.
I see that many disagree with me, I wanted to hear the argumentation of the answer from each of you.
THEN STOP PLAYING IF YOU ARE SO MISERABLE
Then leave if youre already not thrilled with it and rarely open the Scanner. The Uninstall button is right there. While you're at it the Delete Browser History and Cookies functions is in your browser's settings.
