Removal of double r7 deploy
I suspect I'll probably be in the minority in here, but I do not like the removal if this, I know its how it used to be but that'd not an excuse, if we kept things "how they used to be" we would still be living in caves hunting animals with sticks. We've had double r7 deploy for nearly 3 years, it's no longer a covid bonus, it's normal gameplay, it didn't break the game, it didn't make it unfair, it was actually very fair. Now, all its going tk do is make single players have a harder time, and the dominant team in areas even more dominant as they will still easily be able to make l7 portals, but the weaker team will struggle to make l7 to be on an even playing field.

I agree on wanting 2x 7 resonators to continue. As a lone player in a large area it makes a big difference in gear. In an area with lots of players it is much less of an issue. But it's the difference in making a L5 or L6 portal which determines the level of gear you can get. I'd keep 2x L7 resonators and let Niantic adjust the hack time up a bit.
I think the biggest problem with double R7 is that it made duos incredibly powerful, making constant P7s is a huge advantage.
Also, I say this as someone who benefits from double R7 in this way.
Im with Breenzy on this. My wife plays as well and as a duo we can dominate easily.
Learn to cooperate with other team members would be way to go.
For solo agents in regional areas it will suck a bit however would P6 vs P5 make a huge difference?
exactly, it de-values the third player as its not even needed, imo its a good change they revert this.
I disagree, the game was much more fun back when level 7 & 8 bursters were a scarce resource. Ever since double r7, the game has given the destroy-part of the game too much power. There needs to be a proper balance between defense and offense.
Also, we've had double r7 for like 2 years 3 months. Not "nearly 3 years"
The player base is dwindling significantly. Removing double R7 means that there are areas where it will be very difficult to build P7s without flipping them up. It's not a big deal to me because we still have lots of active players and it's not even that hard to find P8s but players in areas with less activity will have a dearth of high-level gear.
It's good to reverrt
a p7 takes 3 agents, if u cant get that then recruit maybe not ask for the game to be too easy..
I liked the old days when a P7 was a precious thing that you would recharge and defend. Nowadays, I just let P7 dacay because it is so easy to rebuild with 2 players.
As a player of the weaker faction, you can always hack the other faction's portals to get high-level items.
Personally, I look forward to finding P6s where I can add the third R8 and R6/7 to upgrade to P7.
Just my personal feeling - there is no right or wrong in this issue.
Theres a difference between easy and balanced, witha dwindling player base, it mught be impossible to get 3 agents in the same place for some areas. I think I can maybe get 3 red agents on a good day in one area, but thats nit an issue for the enl in my area, so it's just helping them with their dominance
Without the player base from 3 years ago?
Agree with the "bumper" mentality. Great way of making friends.
however would P6 vs P5 make a huge difference?
It makes a huge difference, because a P6 has a very slight chance to drop 8s gear. AFAIK a P5 does not.
They'll just k1ll the game even more by removing the double R7. Specially in small towns/cities.
even a smaller city should be able to recruit and gather 3 agents ?
You say recruit, do you mean get other people to pick up and play the game? Cause I've tried that, I manages to get 3 people to try, they didn't like it and 2 didnt even make it to level 3. This isn't an easy game to get people to play, it's not easy to understand, it's not particularly aesthetically pleasing to look at. So I would remove this idea of "recruiting" as an answer
If Niantic could make it so single agent P6 is possible, but double agent P7 is not possible, we should go that route imo.
But as it stands, double agent P7 is way too powerful.
The only way to do this would be allow triple R5 & R6. This also has inventory management benefits of no longer needing R4s. Maybe adding this as a recursion bonus?
eg.
Single agent: 8 7 6 6 6 5 5 5 = 6
Double agent: 8 8 7 7 6 6 6 6 = 6.75 (6)
The problem is the lack of players. And really who is responsible to attract more players? In the early days the game was easier to pick up and learn. Now this isn't the same game. Try to explain what a battle beacon is to a new player. The events are confusing too. Throw in some competition from other games and very few will stick with it. So the lose of double 7 deploy is just exaggerated now. Before it wasn't even needed. Now it's difficult to get three people together to make a p7. But if it affects both teams equally then it isn't really that big of a deal. Both teams suffer. The issues at hand are bigger than double 7 deploy.
If regional agents need bumps we usually drive there if asked.
We're seeing what a lack of players is doing for the game's environment and sadly, the hardest part has been to find a balance. (similar to events)
Saying recruit is a thought terminating cliché - you're not resolving the issue. How would we balance portal levels equally?
Would it be ok to keep the double L7? This still requires 8 people to show up for a L8 in the end. (flipping the portal is an available option but it always has been)
I'm also thinking since around Prime:
+ Shields and their stickyness have been nerfed
+ Fast recharging has made it easy to defend
- Notifications are still iffy
I consider L6 to 8 in the same upper range. I wouldn't care the number of people it takes to build it, I just know bursters are needed.
Yeah it can be hard getting ppl to start play this game but that doesnt mean the game should be nerfed because of that. I asume its best to try get those that have a hard time adapt to this game by have them visit a first saturday maybe and let other more experience agents perhaps try engage them and show them what the game is about. Ingress is a game u need to scratch more then just on the surface, once u get passed that and know all the basics the game is more fun then any niantic game so far and many options how play etc its shame its so hard to get normal casual people getting hooked into this game..
I mean, I found it hard to enjoy at first and even now I get bored regularly of the game. I wouldn't say its nerfing it having double r7 deploy, as I said in an earlier post, it more balanced for the less dominant factions. The double r8 made it easier and I could live without thay, but now that I think it will be hard to make l7 portals, so will fond myself at a disadvantage against the opposition who can regularly make p8s
Removing the double R7 per agent will not be going back to a "harder" game but to a terribly unbalanced one, in which you need eight (EIGHT!!) players to build something that a single one can destroy. Come on!
Finding three players to build a P7 farm is not that hard. The problem is that farm will survive no time in those areas in which agents from the other faction dedicate themselves to punish collaborative game. I hear you, we just need to build those portals again. Problem is, people get tired of the same thing over and over and just plainly stop upgrading portals and the farm dies away.
Some people here are confusing "harder" with "taking more time". This game has no skills to learn, no abilities to develop. Having general access to P6 portals for solo players doesn't make it easier, it makes it more flexible and productive. Are those not desirable in an open game like this?
In my personal experience playing the game (seven years and counting), the double R7 per agent has made the game better. You still need eight (EIGHT!!) agents to build a P8 (which at this point is just for events or multi-account players) but could have access to decent level gear (and yes, I've also taken down an Aegis with a level 1 ultra, just don't have the time to do it everyday). I don't understand why go back to a more unbalanced game: just because it was like that from the beginning? Are people not using hypercubes? Are people just dropping keys on the map instead of recycling them? Are people not using the drone?
I have been thrilled being able to build P6s by myself: portals require a few more busters to take down and I can micro field and farm at the same time, since level 7 resonators and busters are relatively common by glyph-hacking P6s. If you remove this welcome feature, I'll have to go back to 3 glyphs (boring) and recyclable material (level 5 gear has no use in this game). I'm not exactly looking forward to it and will even consider unsubscribing the CORE, which I've got from the beginning.
I think the game rules should adapt to what is currently happening rather than what we think should be happening.
"Recruit more agents" is an interesting answer in theory, but at best that is a serious uphill climb and it's not really happening right now. The points about shifting more power to a dominant faction are excellent, and they are something that Niantic should think carefully about before removing double R7.
I loathe "recruit more people" as a response, you're absolutely right, it is thought terminating.
All it means is that more people will be affected by the same issue, instead of Niantic actually trying to balance the problem.
It's easier to flip a portal up with a VR battle beacon now but yeah.
Recruiting is and always has been rather difficult.
I like that change
Doubt they will answer, but it would be nice if @NianticBrian or @NianticThia gave their input, I expect it would be some company jargon, but it would be interesting either way
Only one agent wont build for 8 glyph hack points.
Only one agent will be able to get L5 portal with or without L8 resonator, so it will be a good idea to store more L8 resonators.
It was a temporal change, but for alone players it will be hard to deal with that.
Who the heck is going to recruit a person into a game that has so many ongoing issues that are not addressed, with the company blatantly disrespecting their player base?
Even if it would start counting to the recruiter badge (remove it already, :/ ) I would not recommend the game with the current latency and other issues.
