Well, I'm glad I got a medal, but I participated in the recharge room to tactically support my faction from an organised location with 10-15 other agents. The targets we recharged were portals used to create longest link or starbursts, they were under attack constantly and we were recharging like crazy to keep them up.
Recharge rooms exist because of tactics and teamplay, they would still exist if the medal was not awarded.

Ha, no. Nobody would bother to transfer keys to far enough locations. So recharge rooms in some small radius where it's easy to transfer, maybe. Other countries, no.
I understand that people who can't travel want a badge too, I understand the need for funding, I love that and that you can get a badge even without paying if you do it by portal scans, but there HAS to be something more for the people that are spending money to actually go to the event, people that organize it, socialize and keep ingress alive, that was the success of the game in the first place, that's why I met so many dear friends all over Europe, that I would cherish even when the game is not here anymore.
Please understand what an impact this will have to the future of the game, a new agent has no motive at all to join an event, at least have a different badge for onsite and remote players...
The motive for attending the event should be to experience it. The medal is just a digital souvenir and should be mostly irrelevant to your decision on attending.
The real issue is that it looks like the onsite experience is likely to be lame.
if you are a collector it matters a lot, gameplay on the last events was lame at least, so the event experience was not really worth the money you spent on the ticket to get there (though it should be worth it), but of course visiting friends always is a motive. Participating to an event, from the moment that even the scanner doesn't work properly is not worth the money when you can get the badge easily and free from home...
You guys never thought to still go and then complain to Niantic directly in person? I think that's a unique experience of its own - especially if the servers go down
remember exo5? no badges for recharge rooms, but the rooms existed.
also have seen keys travel to locations in the middle of nowhere in other countries for recharging of anomalies.
the problem is Munich was suppose to be an anomaly. i do not consider the battle beacons as an anomaly. I consider them an event at the most and I have actually spent more time completing the event badges than the battle beacons. The solstice recharge is going to take me longer.
@spicyheart I just said this to someone privately:
Think of battle beacons as a tool rather than as an end. If all Niantic does is fire off a bunch of rare battle beacons then yes, that's a lame anomaly. If they become more like volatiles or cluster ornaments as part of a larger competition then they are actually an improvement over previous tools because of the visual elements including the timer.
I completely understand (but disagree with) people being upset about non-attendees being able to earn a badge. I strongly recommend withholding judgement on the use of battle beacons as part of the anomaly until we see the rules and understand HOW they are being used.
1) I want my medals to reflect my player journey. If im on site for an anomaly I want my medal to reflect that, I want an onyx badge that looks damn flashy. If I helped remotely I want a medal that shows I helped with the bigger battle, but not on site, then maybe a gold or platinum badge is deserved. If I threw down a few battle beacons at the right time (whatever timezone nia meant to tell me about) and did the bare minimum in my local park then I expect a bronze badge with no bells and whistles. Maybe silver requires hitting a few dozen actively contested bbs in a local town. The point is there are ways to be inclusive without devaluing the effort put in by the agent.
2) yes BB are the new cool toy in the box, yes they are automated, they are autoscoring, they require minimal nia input, they are also common and old hat now. They can't be the entire anomaly core game, that's just not what we're coming for. There have been some outstanding mini games in previous 'real' (pre covid) anomalies, why not bring out a few more new toys to play with. Anomaly needs to be something that can't be replicated by the community without direct nia input, otherwise what is the point?
3) grrr arrrrgh grumble, why do these things always seems to be announced at the relatively last minute? At this point people have committed vast amounts of money, time and effort in attending Munich, just to have that desire, excitement and happiness at the return of anomaly turn into sadness and disappointment. You announced an event, why not announce the details of the full event AND any additional half assed ways to get exactly the same badge and credit at the same time. Then and only then would people be able to make an informed decision about attending events in future.
I'm going to Munich, I'm going to have a great time, but it feels like it might be in spite of the anomaly rather than because of it and that makes me very sad.
Plus while I'm here, $75 for OCF, what planet are you on with that one?
Given that during the series where recharge rooms weren't awarded medals, there wasn't a lessening of those recharge rooms, at least on the ENL side, I'd dispute that your claim is in any way based in reality. We do it for the team. 😉
I was more thinking when we got a ton of people recharging for Perthepolis because they couldn't afford to fly there. You'd be able to recharge for Jakarta.
The most useless addition to any discussion board. (Maybe farming the likes for privileges on this site is worse...)
I've reported issues, only to have people disagree with them; like how are you disagreeing with the fact that I've got problems with the game. The fact that you can see who liked/disagreed/insight your post is stupid as well.
I doubt many are surprised by this, the looming feeling of things going wrong has always been there. And it's also how modern world works: A lot of us know how things can be done and we hope for the best, then we watch as some big person sitting on top of lot of money makes a dumb shortsighted decision to get more.. money.
But this is a game a lot of people love, a game that's very different from other games (there's no alternatives you can just jump into), it's worth preserving as is - so we will do what we can to fight for it. Unfortunately all we can do is complain on a forum, but so be it!
You're not supposed to see it, Niantic disabled the "official" way to view it. However, due to how Vanilla Forums, the platform Niantic uses for the forums, is build, you can still find out who reacted with editing a URL. This is happening across all Vanilla Forums though, so for one, it's not on Niantic, but on Vanilla to fix it.
Yeah but since they use vanilla, it's not really on them I guess. I mean we can blame them for a lot of things, and ultimately for choosing Vanilla :D haha.
Serious niantic . A lot of players pay monthly for the game, we all were in lock down... couldn't move, couldn't join to enjoy the game together. Finally we can go to a anomaly and you do something like this??? Damn Nia, I can do that from my couch or a Lil walk around.... organize a real anomaly ...we need it! We want that, not those stupid battle beacons ... not happy Nia, not happy here..... ANOMALY !!! A REAL ONE NOT THIS ! YUK!
Betting on just over a week from Thias post. Players aren't maximumly unhappy yet about the delayed reply. We need the "Its been over a week now" posts to kick in.

The fact recharge rooms exists show how much people value the medal.
Sure it contributes but I guarantee you people are in the recharge room mostly for the medal.

Niantic ****!
Flight and hotel already booked, GoRuck events exeptionally expensive.
And now everyone starting BBs will get the anomaly medal.
Having recharge rooms are bad enough.
Authorship not mine (tg Prime MEMEs)
Yeah no recharge room so I flew from Australia to Osaka for 48 hours to take part.

Probably why Res lose :) Getting keys to Perth and actually having anything in recharge range for most of the players was tricky.
I think Brisbane anomalies only Level 15+ players could charge.
Yeah but Perth can be recharged from most of Indonesia at that level too.
True. But if it was in Perth I prob not be in a recharge room :)
I was more thinking when we got a ton of people recharging for Perthepolis because they couldn't afford to fly there. You'd be able to recharge for Jakarta.
Surprise, surprise the conversation doesn't even go with the Superposition anomaly. Keep checking your dislikes through altering the URL 👍
Why would you dislike a pure statement of fact that has zero negative connotation to anyone except out of pure maliciousness?
I got used to such unreasonable disagrees from him under many of my posts. Haters gonna hate :)
So... Soon - when?
