This is an insult for agents across factions who are going to Munich from across the world. We will love seeing each other again but the question will be. How many people will just not participate out of protest?
I really dislike the idea of a battle beacon since the beginning of them, it's just pointless burning gear. I disliked the idea of battle beacon events, and with de battle beacons being part of a strategic game called ANOMALY, why can't we just go back to cluster battles, link distances, (the shards are in), and i liked the idea of gathering media items at the Amsterdam anomaly. but NO BATTLE BEACONS!! @NianticBrian
After so many people cancelled their plans back in 2020 as the pandemic hit, to re-launch the anomaly with only battle beacons and shards is quite a disappointment and a huge let down to what could have been a true re-boot to normality returning to the world of ingress. I really hope there are some other elements of a true anomaly in there and we’re not just repeating what we’ve been doing the past 5 months with kureze and Kythera.
The fact that battle beacons can be used for those elsewhere to get the badge is also quite a smack in the teeth to those who are paying hundreds of dollars/pounds/euros to go an experience which should be a unique event. At least with traditional anomalies and coordinated recharge rooms off-site agents can participate/interact with the host site and earn their badge through that means.
I appreciate that the battle beacons are a valuable source of income for Niantic, but I think they’re just being pushed too much now and with all events being so focused on them agents are getting bored of them and you’ll find that participation will drop as a result of the fatigue with the same battles being fought month on month and most likely yielding same result when community organised.
please reach out to your agents, find out what their communities want and use vanguards as sounding boards. The prestige of anomalies is being diluted and battle beacons are a huge part of this.
the expectations were high that after 3 years this would be a great way to see a true anomaly return. Such a shame that ingress’ 10th year will be marred by this half baked anomaly if it isn’t given the prestige it so deserves.
So, you are basically saying that whoever booked travel and hotel to fight for Munich will play with Kythera rules. That is, they'll put their phone back in their pockets as soon as they'll see they are outnumbered (disclaimer: assuming the rules will be the same as Kureze/Kythera). That is, you scammed them all.
Can it be worse? Yes, because whoever was in doubt to go to Munich will not go there because they can get the badge by just comfortably deploying their own BBs.
Can it be worse? Yes, because operators' efforts are still not recognized with the current system.
Can it be worse? Yes, because you are still not restoring every real remote effort (rechage rooms, operators, decoders).
Can it be worse? Yes, because you are stick to not use the sub-games used in past anomalies: unique hacks, links, fields, decoding, volatiles, and so on.
Can it be worse? Yes, because interacting with shards is still not a valid condition to get the anomaly badge.
Can it be worse? Yes, because you can do A LOT of things to fix the event (for example, free idea, you can develop a Common Battle Beacon worth 1 point with only 1 10-minutes Chekcpoint with no countdown, mocking the original cluster battle), but the chances they'll be done are near to 0.
Can it be worse? Yes. But you still have a little chance to do the right thing. Don't throw it away.
Munich is the possibility to have one of the best events ever of the story of Ingress.
People is looking for "normality" after so much time, and a big reunion is the best way.
But these rules just ruined everything.
But, there is still time to show you care of the players: do a poll and ask the players what kind of anomaly they prefer.
The best would be the following:
- Anomaly rules go back to before Covid rules, with clusters and shards.
- Announce a city for each continent to follow. All players need to have an opportunity to participate.
- Medal goes only to players on the ground, intel operators, stealth goruck forces for informations and rechargers. Don't make let people buy the medal.
In addition there are dozens of thing it is possible to do:
- Make people search character medals around the city of the event
- Send Niantic team on the ground and make them hear the players.
- Make event dedicated merchandise to buy at event and also weeks before online to wear it onsite.
Wanna have more ideas? Contact me, there are a lot more.
For example, if you need money, do a Camp Navarro style event.
Please Niantic, it's not too late to show you listen players and change your decision.
I hope to be heard
A **** from a long time player, that has given a lot of time and resources to keep this game alive.
I agree with everything you have said, but a small nitpick:
For example, if you need money, do a Camp Navarro style event.
According to the people I spoke to back then, Camp Navarro was hugely expensive and Niantic made next to no money from it. I'd still love to see another one though, don't me wrong.
Im sorry but BB is really getting boring, I was so looking forward for a proper anomaly after 2 years.
there is no real team effort , as mentioned also by others, there is no more multi layered gaming and strategy involved. No more rechargers, operators, planning, strategy, decoding.
No more fun like in the classic anomaly like hacking, linking, collecting media and then decoding it, fielding and so on.
Now it's just hack 10 portals and go for drinks with your friends. Or hack during drinking.
This shouldn't have been only ONE site at the first place. It shoud've been "main" site with Niantic being on site, and a few satellite cities so that remote recharge is available from everywhere, as always.
Munich was postponed due to the pandemic. They finally get their anomaly and it has been reduced to anyone deploying battle beacons anywhere. I see it as an insult to the Ingress community.
Niantic has stated that munich will be the only anomaly site and now stating you can get the medal for it everywhere. After we have booked hotels, canceld vacations and booked flights. Yes, sure NIA is doing everything wrong and now blaming agents. Thats funny.
i was happy as the ano was anounced...finally after nearly three yeras without ano, but what did we got another BBnomaly where dont even need to be in Munich. Oh yeah we could shuffle some shards around and can join an afterparty.
sry but thats not an ano....anos from the past where highly strategic events with different competitions like shards, clusterbattle, longest link, fielsd etc. and intel gained via decoders and goruck. recharge rooms where importenant and a nice for ppl to earn the badge without traveling onsite.
and did you remember when it was important which faction won a site, not only for the background story (do you remember that jarivs&ada are not just items to switch a color of a portal?) but it had impact on the gameplay for a few weeks. but nowadays? nothing...
people felt they had earned the victory and got the badge and done something for their faction and not just bought it.
i know as company u need to earn money...but without a community no money....
I am traveling to Munich for Superposition but now I see that it is just a run of the mill Battle Beacon event, I think I’m going to skip the “anomaly” portion and just got to the pre and post meetups.
It's not enough to simply address a complaint. How the complaint is addressed matters.
To paraphrase/steal another Agent's favorite example: Niantic could make sure Agents never again experience any number of problems that they've complained about — lag, spoofing, you name it — by simply turning off the servers, but that's not the solution anyone has in mind or cares for.
Battle Beacons for anomaly play is yet another bad idea. What makes this different than Kureze or Kythera then - except for overpriced Goruck events that don't have any impact on the anomaly anymore?
Requiem was to be the only anomaly in Europe - and now this.
Previously GoRuck Ops would give the winning team Intel and GoRuck Stealth would give additional points for the anomaly. But this time there are no benefits. So what's the point of GoRuck?
Three years and no anomalies, I finally get to see so many people who I dearly love and haven't seen for far too long.
Now there seems to be no incentive for these people to go to Munich. We were so looking forward to getting back together, and playing together as we once did.
I know you don't like the idea of a community based Anomaly, but please, please at least let us do that and have some of the features like longest link starburst and other things that we used to do.
If you want to get more people playing the game at least give us something to play for.
It's obvious some agents find value and pride in having a medal that shows you were at a place, at a certain time, with a limited number of other agents. I don't see many agents traveling across countries for kythera or kureze, why travel when you can earn it down the road at a local park? Agents love their medals, this "update" dillutes the value quite a bit, it changes what that medal could have been. When I look at certain medals on agents profiles, I see a history of places and events they've done. When I see the last two "anomalies," it reads to me like they met up with some other agents in a park at a random hour, placed a few resos on a portal, maybe recharged remotely and then went about their way 30 minutes later, it doesn't say they travelled this distance, planned, played strategically, didn't sleep, raced across town, etc.
Comments
Presumably for this other stuff.
But if you're not interested in that and just want the badge, then yeah don't go.
This is an insult for agents across factions who are going to Munich from across the world. We will love seeing each other again but the question will be. How many people will just not participate out of protest?
since 2018? it's been always like that

This is how to **** on the dedicated player base
Simple solution for NIA re: Medals
Alternatively, all folks who participate (remotely or not) can get a medal, and folks who actually go to Munich can get an additional medal.
Classic style anomalies were on their way out even before the pandemic. Requiem was to be the last of it's kind.
You can be disappointed about this, but you shouldn't be surprised.
On the basis alone that requiem was to be the last of its kind - more of a reason to give Munich what it should’ve had in the first place, no?
Dear Niantic,
Munich is the possibility to have one of the best events ever of the story of Ingress.
People is looking for "normality" after so much time, and a big reunion is the best way.

First people complained that there was only one anomaly site and people who couldn't travel to Europe would be left out.
Now people are complaining that those who can't travel won't be left out.
Niantic really has no way of winning with people.
This shouldn't have been only ONE site at the first place. It shoud've been "main" site with Niantic being on site, and a few satellite cities so that remote recharge is available from everywhere, as always.
All wishing to spend money... stay home and get the badge, holy jesus

I hope, whan Niantic realy hear and can read that.
Ingress palyers also want some good action, lot of strategy, and all other what was long time ago and not a lazy game far away from home.
Oh @Niantic....
i was happy as the ano was anounced...finally after nearly three yeras without ano, but what did we got another BBnomaly where dont even need to be in Munich. Oh yeah we could shuffle some shards around and can join an afterparty.

It's the difference between highlighting every portal you've already visited vs. the two that are unique for you, the difference between addressing the literal words that were said vs. the underlying desire.
Battle Beacons for anomaly play is yet another bad idea. What makes this different than Kureze or Kythera then - except for overpriced Goruck events that don't have any impact on the anomaly anymore?
Requiem was to be the only anomaly in Europe - and now this.
My disappointment is endless.
Still in time to think of a tiered medal.
Bronze: your comfy, near, anti-ingress-style backyard.
(Silver: anomaly sites other than Munich?)
Gold: Munich + actual anomaly cities, with PLAYERS who WALK AROUND and PLAY
Also there is GoRuck Ops and GoRuck Stealth.
Previously GoRuck Ops would give the winning team Intel and GoRuck Stealth would give additional points for the anomaly. But this time there are no benefits. So what's the point of GoRuck?
What's the point about anything you do?
Calvinball has never disappeared. There probably will be intel for the anomaly
Three years and no anomalies, I finally get to see so many people who I dearly love and haven't seen for far too long.

How are players earning the badge by participating at home lessoning on-site participants' enjoyment?

You know the answer to your own question...
