Replenish XM in Northern Summer Solstice

Greetings Agents,
Our Researchers have detected a more vigorous flow of XM in our Portal Network, which coincides with what’s conventionally known as Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere! From Thursday, 9 June, 16:00 UTC to Tuesday, 21 June, 16:00 UTC, a single-tier medal “Solstice Recharge Challenge” will be awarded to Agents helping bump 300,000 XM back into the Portal Network.
During this period, Agent Scanners will exhibit the following behaviors:
- AP for capturing a Portal increased to 2,000 up from 800
- 2x Power Cube output from Hacking
- Kinetic energy distance for Power Cube reduced from 8km to 4km
- 30-min Drone cooldown
- Double XM cost for Hacking, Deploying Resonators and Upgrading Resonators
- 19% Portal decay per day up from 15%
In addition to the earned medal, also available during the event period in the Ingress Store:
- Limited-time “Summer Solstice 2022” medal (2,500 CMU)
We hope you enjoy the varieties of medals, and we’re looking forward to more opportunities to add some fun to your Agent Profile. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions in the Ingress Community Forum.

Would be cool to also see Southern Hemisphere Winter solstice badge, ya know for the other half of the planet!
We appreciate your feedback and suggestions in the Ingress Community Forum.
Why not post at least a link to the news post to the forum? 🙈 The Eos Imprint event also was never posted by Niantic to this forum, other agents had to do that. I do like that Niantic is trying to concentrate on one platform, but saying nothing on the forum while the link is still posted to Twitter and Telegram is.. meh.
Yeah, there is this other half of the planet that is going to celebrate the winter solstice at the same time.
Extremely weird calling it the Northern Hemisphere Solstice.
/shrugs
Thank you for the earned medal, will pass on the store version.
I like this event, fun and easy :D some will say its too easy... oh well :P
Because the forum is a bad way to centralize everything. The website is better for centralizing news because they don't have to fight with the dumb censor and have full control on adding information or classifying any issue. (Especially if they want to add anything cyptid to the update for a passcode to solve)
90 percent of Earth's population lives in the Northern Hemisphere
Oh no don't get me wrong, the forums shouldn't be the central location for everything. But, y'know, a link to the website in the news section of the forum would be nice lol
From one side,300k xm is a bit small,i will got this medal just as event will begin. From other, recharging is the most annoying activity,so i personally against any decay increasing measures.Still remember dark xm as a nightmare.
Agreed, just having nine different places to look for news is tiring. Telegram seems to be the easiest, still. I can turn alerts on and off, easy to filter out the BS, etc. Seems like basic business communications here, but alas, this is Niantic, so much time spent on ineffective communication. They've got it figured out though, lol
For the latest on in-game events and feature updates, be sure to check COMM > NEWS.
Opens his scanner.
Sees nothing there about this event. 😕
I wish Niantic would pick a method of communication and stick with it. Part of effective communication is consistency of delivery.
87%, but close.

why isn't this listed in the "events" section under "special events"?
Ah, that would be because I'm stupid and put it into General by accident 🙈 @NianticVK, any chance you could move the post to the Special Events category?
These are cool looking badges. Keen to get the henge one for sure. Nicely done.
A few comments:
The sun badge is paid. Please add a dark sun or similar badge for those of us in the southern hemisphere. That way we can choose.
Yes most people live in the Northern hemisphere. However it's very non inclusive and feels insulting to those not in the north to be excluded that way. People are proud of where they live and this is not the first badge to cater purely to the northern hemisphere. I patiently await magnetic field reversal.
Ditto above on communication fail again. You have a events section on the forum and don't use it.
Too many badgers... please reduce to a few a year.
Irrelevant what the proportion is.
Same planet same solstice, just one is winter and the other summer. Twice (or 4 times from a certain point of view) a year
Ok, I'll go with logic answer 2.
Stonehenge is the design of the badge which is in the Northern Hemisphere. The design of the site is aligned to match the sunset of the winter solstice and the opposing sunrise of the summer solstice. That's why the design has a line through it (along with the one you can buy with the sun). Regardless of the solstice and the season you're entering, it's all relative.
Oh come on. Another medal that's easier to get than not get.
At least make it a challenge (and by extension a choice) to get these things. I'm already "earning" this twice a week just by keeping my charging locker topped up.
Given the 12 day length of the event, increased decay, and extra cubes 300,000 XM recharged seems too low for even a participation badge.
A cool 1 million would still be quite easy and at least kinda sound challenging.
they didnt want it to be hard more laidback so more causuals that dont play often can have chance get a badge. the badge is as hard as u make it.
The artwork also makes zero sense to us in the southern Hemisphere. The seasons are inverted.
And essentially itself disrespects us players in the southern Hemisphere.
For us in the Southern Hemisphere, the rising of the Southern Cross constellation marks the equinox, which cannot be observed in the Northern Hemisphere.
@MoogModular essentially, if the event were called the Southern Winter Solstice, you would have the exact same arguments I've raised.
It makes zero sense, as we all are on the same pale blue dot, on another trip around the solar system.
It does? Southern cross is visible every night here. Confused...
How about just 'solstice' instead of winter or summer.
I think the thinking was something like: “Let’s have a Summer Solstice event”, “wait it’s not summer in the Southern Hemisphere, people will complain that’s it’s not summer everywhere”, “Ok, let’s call it northern summer solstice”
they really should have just called it “Solstice”
it's their tool, they should be able to bend it to suit them.
if they're going to abandon forums, the least they could do is... tell us...
It's their control. They have been using the website.
LAG
Definitely think the bar was set way too low for this event especially given how long it lasts. Shortest event ever for me, took less than 30 min.
Very underwhelming, but again, thankful they offered a paid medal option. Funny thing is, I probably would have paid the $3 for the medal if it came with this easy in game actions. As it is now, will not be buying the store version of the medal and sticking with the earned version.
8 minutes to do over 800k recharge. Got me closer to a billion recharge though. 10mil to go.
