[IDEA] Menu Indicators
Idea for the menu to have indicator rings around the various options.
Missions - Flash to indicate mission active (or even to indicate progress through mission)
Scores - To show % through the cycle, maybe a combo ring to show time to next checkpoint + end of cycle
Dronenet - To show cooldown on drone
Store - Flash to indicate new items are available
EDIT: Niantic Social could have an unread counter for new messages.

And kcap?
I like the idea of the drone cool-down but maybe a widget for KCaps/Drone like Pokémon GO has for Eggs/Buddies would be better.
Ohhh such a nice idea!!
KCaps cause a red dot on the Inventory, so following the above line of thought, it'd be a red circle around the inventory.
By the same token a yellow circle around the COMM would indicate that there was a new alert since it was last viewed.
Why not both? Widgets are good for when you're not in-game.
I'm sensing this to be done in Prime soon. We might even get two widgets. One for the return of the cycles and score (maybe the score can be adjusted to your current cell versus the global) and then the second for kcaps
I love the idea but (there is always a but) your example is confusing.
There is a red circle that indicates on/off, there are 2 red circles that indicate progress and 1 yellow circle that indicates "new"
I think the circles are great for showing progress but the others should be a tick or a dot (like the current drone available red dot)
Red shows something "happening or in progress". Yellow shows something "new". Red is not "on/off" because the mission is "In Progress" not "On". To modify it, you could show the red circle on the mission based on the number of waypoints completed, but that seems like overkill.
"Being In Progress" and "Indicating Progress" are 2 different things
Red is often the color of "stop", "danger", and "this needs your attention" — the last of those being consistent with Ingress's current menu indicators. It's not a great choice for "in progress."
Different colours to indicate different types of alerts. The red indicates a countdown (having a regular dot doesn't present as much info regarding cooldown).
