Remote portal view link sharing and organized photo voting
The new feature of sharing links to remote portal view has led to organized portal photo voting. The photo voting battles were always possible but required players to share keys or use Comm to provide a "link" to a portal, but now players on both factions apparently created dedicated chats to mass vote on photos. I think it is time to prevent photo voting through remote portal view or limit photo voting.
Not sure I see the issue with it tbh.
It's terrible. People having fun with a new functionality provided by Niantic.
They probably even help each other!
Wasn't there something about photo voting moving to Wayfarer at some point in the near (lol) future? Seems like an insignificant, if temporary problem, at best.
I can't think of a more trivial issue to be bothered by. if anything this levels the playing field a bit for a "game" that ultimately has no impact on anything.
I'm one of those people that has created a group for the purpose of getting higher quality pictures to the front so they can become the main portal picture.
This new feature allows people to take over the sport from pictures that may be 9+ years old and which may have collected likes through that time, but it may be a really bad picture, or it may help pictures that are simply just better.
As far as I'm aware, this is not against the TOS. Sure, there will always be a small number of people that will use features for petty squabbles, but this is such a tiny number, it should not impede the fun agents had in discovering great portals, pictures and the story behind it.
Anyway go join the group here if you want good pictures to be upvoted and want to help upvote other pictures: https://t.me/+WlxzkLfgU245ZGNi
Curious if you could explain why this is a bad thing? It's not obvious to me and others have presented why this is actually a good thing.
I've finally managed, after years of trying, to get some decent pictures upvoted and fronting portals thanks to this new feature. There will always be people abusing features, but I sincerely think this one goes both ways and doesn't need to be restricted.
Isn't that the image you shot with a drone?
Yes he said so
As long as this isn't being used to upvote troll photos, damaging photos, or in some way causing harm to the portal network, it's a fun game...
Before the portal was removed (no idea why), the local casino had an upvote battle of it lit in Blue and lit in Green. And it was a fun challenge to flip the picture.
However I do think it would be worth Ingress' (or Niantic's) time to implement an indicator on what was the first picture of the portal.
Or have it provide a general date and account that submitted the nomination. (Of course, provide the same Wayfarer ability to either choose to have your account name published)
I hope niantic will add so that you can see, who has likes the photo. It could be interesting..
Nothing wrong with coordinating photo votes. It doesn't affect gameplay, and unless someone manages to get abusive photos through wayfarer, doesn't mess up the portals either. If anything, this makes it easier to outvote older photos that are no longer accurate out of the top spot. Outside of maybe a handful of people abusing this to vote low quality photos to the top, I see this as an absolute win.
Are there still voting channels on telegram or are they all closed or private? The portal picture link exchange is now private and one can't see if there is still voting in progress,
If there were two pictures, one blue and one green, and the number of thumbs ups competed with each other, there would not seem to be much of a problem, but in the past few years there have been many cases of large numbers of thumbs ups and pictures being uploaded for gym attraction and other activities related to Pokémon GO.
Therefore, this poor system element needs to be eliminated from the rest of the game system or it will never go away.
Link is expired, is the group still active?
He closed it
To protest Niantic selling nfts
I've heard the PokeGo groups using the share portal function to get portals upvotes to make their silly gym creations.
Portal upvotes no longer influence that.
Sometimes bot accounts out there were used to manipulate the portal photo votes. It just shows how immature some Ingress players can be.
We nu have an agent like that in our local area. He doesnt allow anyone to replace the photos in the portals he has created. If someone tries, his photo will have more votes, (and no they arent from any portalgroups), (and no, no agents in 400 km radius would help him). If someonelse photo are upvoted, with the help from sharing keys or links, he takes new photos on all portals said agent has created and makes his photo the mainphoto..
With the possibility to use these groups, he has calmed down a little, and thats a very good thing.
Ive seen bot upvoting done in the past. Someone said they would fix photo and nekminnit 70+ upvotes. This was back in Redacted days though. Probably something similar exists today.
There are other groups out there. I'm in a resistance specific one. With a well established community or two, it wouldn't take much to throw 50+ votes at any given photo
