Second Sunday missions

Could Niantic provide missions to do for Second Sundays?

Official Missions days used to come with Niantic provided missions.

In person First Saturdays used to come with unofficial, but fast tracked reviews for missions.

this is up to the community to do.

Even the missions which were provided by Niantic were actually made by players and sent to Niantic. You can make missions for your local area. It seems complicated at first but it's fun and most players who start making missions end up making loads more. Just go to https://missions.ingress.com/ and sign in with the account you use for Ingress.

  • This was originally written for making automated Mission Days, but it would be even more appropriate for Second Sunday.

  • Re-reading the whole thing:

Run the event every 3rd weekend of the month (or some other weekend choice, not FS) until pandemic restrictions are lifted.

    Heh.

Op is asking Niantic to take on some of the heavy lifting. (since no one will fix a broken system)

They (we) are tired of the pain of submitting missions only to have them rejected for vague reasons after waiting for weeks for approval.

The problem with second sunday mission is not the official or community nature of the missions/banner. The problem is more with the delay of mission acceptation or the random mission rejection...

There are a lot of amazing banner/missions that are design and shared by agents with the community. Moreover @NianticThia also shared banner images here.

If you need help to submit mission, I'm sure that a lot of agents can help you here or in dedicated Telegram groups.

My last set of 12 I put in took 8 days to be reviewed and mostly rejected. 9 out of 12 were rejected, 3 made it through. These are the toast icons I'm sure many of you have seen elsewhere. Waiting over a week to only have 3 make it through is.....tedious. Continued silence from Niantic is...normal, unfortunately. I don't expect any changes to this joke of a system they've left alone for so long. Deal with it...or don't. I think most agents don't wanna deal with it..

Who the hell reviews the missions? We have a dedicated team for Wayfarer that somehow understands the importance of the POI in Ingress and Go but there's been this mysterious hole for submitting Missions - it reminds me of the original portal monkeys when Niantic reviewed portal submissions.

I think Wayfarer for missions could help. People that like missions would likely give good feedback on why a mission should be rejected.

But I can't say that is the case for portal reviews. Likely because there is a badge for OPR and incentive to quickly reject everything. But we used to get quicker and better reviews by Niantic.

Mission review times fluctuate greatly. My longest was 11 months (approved). For Second Sunday we need timely reviews.

But the bigger issues are that most missions get rejected and that we limited authoring slots.

As we are no closer to resolving these issues, I'm suggesting we do what mission days did in the past: Have official Niantic missions available for Second Sundays. A new 6 part banner each month.

Lol you obviously don't know who @phthoruth is, how many missions he submitted and completed. 🙄

It would be nice to be able to give Niantic ownership of successful missions, and get that many slots back, to allow for creation of more. It's brutal to have to withdraw missions in order to have slots to create. I'd rather give it away and know it's still out there.

Ever since Second Sunday started, I've had GREAT luck getting missions approved in the week before 2S. So: create them the weekend of first Sunday. You'll get some answers Monday night, and some Tuesday night. That gives you time to resubmit if needed. After 2S, reviews basically stop for three weeks. (IOW, they put more people reviewing in the work week before 2S, then put them somewhere else.)

We obviously don't, doesn't mean you should make assumptions. Also, that doesn't change the dilemma here

Not convinced about the successful missions part, it would need some thought.

What counts as a successful mission? High rating/volume if players completing it? What if the player that subbed it needs to change it? Where would they submit that change?

Maybe if mission has greater rating than x and player has been inactive for x it could work but then you would need support if portals are removed and who would pick the appropriate portals?

Bottom line we need a mission whiteboard session 😂

Interesting that you think they put more of their staff on "mission duty" before a second Sunday.

I honestly don't know as a community we can science this. We don't know how many staff review missions and if we all submitted our missions in the week before second Sunday then surely it would grind to a halt. Maybe that's the test!

  • MargariteDVilleMargariteDVille ✭✭✭✭

if portals are removed and who would pick the appropriate portals?

If portals are removed, the mission just has one less portal. I've seen missions with only one portal left. Start, hack, did you like this mission? Your first flash is that you did something wrong. Then you're like - hey, that was cool! (I assume that if ALL portals are removed from a mission, that mission just disappears.)

What counts as a successful mission?

Yes, that is hard for us to say. Because some jerks always thumbs down missions created by the other faction.

I'm guessing that Niantic would most want to save missions where there's nothing else around. Even if it's only had ten people do it in 5 years... if someone around there picks up the game - we want it to be interesting.

Since there are not that many new missions, I'm reluctant to do missions except for 2nd Sunday, as I will run out, and I hate to redo missions just for a badge.

The #1 request on the bannergress TG channel, is please take this mission offline; Authors are forced to take their missions offline due to space constraint of 180 missions.

I've successfully posted about 1000 missions, but only 180 are live at any given time. Only about 1 in 5 get approved, so I've authored far more. The 820 that are offline, can and are republished at times.

Its a tedious process getting a new banner posted. Take banners offline to make space. Submit several banners and see which get approved. Submit edits for the rejected ones.

Because the process is artificially hard due to the review process, few agents that enjoy doing mission, author them.

For second sunday, unless we just want to repeat the same mission every month, we need a steady flow of new missions.

So if Niantic isn't ready to help with agents authoring missions, I propose Niantic take some of the resources that currently do mission reviews, and give them some experience authoring 2nd sunday missions for us. Find a way to submit a new banner each month, sprinkled in locations for each city.

Or just not make Second Sunday dependable on missions which is what I thought what the intention was going to be. The announcement and description of the badge do not focus on missions and it's just weird for this badge to exist in its current state.

missions only feel tedious at this point, im forced redo old banners as i have done all local and i have onyx spec ops doubt i will ever bother reach onyx for this one. not sure why niantic keep focus on missions

  • phthoruthphthoruth ✭✭✭✭

For people that love missions, we want more events, badges and missions.

But like mortuus says, when you run out of missions to do, redoing old missions feels tedious.

We want 6 new missions every month

Exactly. Something like how EOS was done, give us options to complete it.
