The toast banners are just meant to be a fun light hearted collection anyone can use, the fact that they have and they're now everywhere means people wanted them everywhere, and they can coexist with the kind of missions and banners you'd like to see more of too, as long as people are willing to make them.
The same tiers as the First Saturday Medal? So many agents asked you all NOT to have tiers that take 3 years to get to Onyx but it seems like talking to you at Niantic is like talking to a freakin’ wall. I am starting to wonder if there is any point in even discussing these things anymore if you are just going to keep doing things at the throw of a dice instead of actually putting any thought into things. 🤦🏻♂️
I see no issues with the tiers. I remember when IFS onyx seemed like forever away, and now I have it. Plug away, enjoy incremental achievements along the way (silver, gold, platinum) and put onyx out of mind until you get close.
IFS was more in the view thanks to the virtual setups. I know if there was no pandemic, I wouldn't be anywhere close. I work 8-5 on weekdays and my weekends are usually for recovery. Sure it's one weekend but it's also a mixed bag how I am.
It's just I didn't want it to end up as the same tiers and here we are. I don't think anymore expected a pandemic to happen when IFS badge was introduced back in November 2018 and that just hit 3 years. (did the badge really get introduced in the same month of Ingress Prime?)
Three years is just too long. To only be able to increment it once per month, and for an ugly Onyx badge in the end, it doesn't really seem like an achievement at all. We already have First Saturday, which for some is an absolute breeze doing the bare minimum, then there are the others where it basically eats up the entire weekend working on organisation, picture, puzzling, etc. The following weekend is supposed to be a break, but it's just continued harassment from Niantic. Ingress is going down the Pokemon GO route with the whole 'fear of missing out' (FOMO) approach, 3 years isn't fun, it's tedium.
Not like Niantic listens to the players anyway, but at least why know why they didn't release the tiers initially, people would have been up in arms earlier. Now it's basically too late to do anything.
EDIT: And if Niantic insist on the stupid three year approach, then enhance the mission creating system. Constant generic rejections are not helpful, and only makes the whole mission creating and Second Sunday only more frustrating.
3 years is far too long. 2 years would be a good max on it.
Though currently it's just as easy as the Mission Day tick was. 6 missions done. (the same 6 I did last month for the MD tick) Zero steps (all driving). Because unlike California, it's 32F/0C here and windy.
I often wonder what the events would look like if Niantic wasn't headquartered in California and here in the Midwest.
There used to be a statement that badges should take concerted effort over a year to get black. That's what was said when Recon came out. I guess with these monthly events, Niantic basically threw that out the window.
I do wish we had more badges that were gameplay based rather than event based though.
Oh that's just stupid then. So we have a placeholder until Niantic can code it to be a different event?
Or maybe we can have this event as it is for at least the first few, given that this is a brand new badge, and the previous Mission Day ticks might not have been incentivising others. Adjustments like auto-created missions, or Niantic deploying large numbers of temporary missions around the world for the day definitely take development, and completely changing it away from Missions would make it a completely different event, so maybe having a few "We know what this is and how to get it" months is worthwhile for a new badge.
Considering anything within missions haven't been touched since 2014, I would be more to the opinion of pushing away from missions temporarily if they want to improve the back end.
The Field Trip waypoints aren't under https so it's only a matter a time for browsers to reject access to them.
The main problem for Second Sunday is finding something that everyone can do. If they switch it to some sort of a tasks type thing, you are going to have lots of unhappy agents.
Generally anyone can do a mission (non-Niantic mission).
If there is a task that says to make 5 fields and you are covered by a field, then you are going to have complaints.
If they ask you to scan a portal, not everyone's device can handle it, so that won't work.
And so on.
Maybe it will turn into mini kinetic capsule event? But then you have to be a certain level to do those.
I just hope they dont make us scan portals in the upcoming months. they could do a mini hexathlons maybe of this, make x glyph points, deploy resonators stuff like that doesnt matter if u would be covered under a field or not.
Second Sunday shouldn't be a replacement for missions though. People are going to complain regardless of what you do but having this as missions for a few months is ridiculous. I would have been fine with just no Second Sunday for a few months instead of this carbon copy of missions. First Saturday did fine with years of no official badge.
I'm just saying a full plan at its launch means more than the halfass approach I'm seeing.
Second Sunday isn't a "replacement" for missions, any more than First Saturday is a replacement for building and destroying portals...
It's an event that encourages players to partake in one aspect of the game, specifically missions. If anything, this is a way to focus more attention on the missions and see if players a really do care about the shortcomings. Given all our feedback and lack of changes, it might be a bad way to highlight a part of the game that needs work, but still.

why are the tiers not released yet`?
3 years for onyx??? realy???
Tiers were just confirmed as 1, 6, 12, 24, 36.
It looks like it's the exact same tiers as IFS.
If only somebody had warned you all! Oh, wait....
6 years for wings then.. haha xD

Will causal players even bother devoting their time 3 years for this? Tough grind.. Ifs@home atleast was an easy tick for most

You picked 6 missions you knew that were within the scanner action radius to do so. I don't know what you're trying to state about it.

Yes one year for onyx badge isnt too bad but 3 years is, most casual players will find that way too long..
i wish one day nia adds mu destroyed, field destroyed and link destroyed medals as they are as important as building.
But rearranging medals is needed now with that many decorative medals 😅 Soon i won' t even have stat medal displayed without scrolling
12 ticks to onyx on a badge with a 5-tier system just seems wrong. As a starting point, I would say it shouldn't have lower tiers than Mission Day.
2 years probably would have been the sweet spot, but I'll embrace the challenge of 3.
Fields and links are the same as resonators, as to destroy a link you destroy the resonators.
But a "Released MU" badge and stat would prioritise taking out larger fields.
Been asking for this for years. You have to destroy to create. mods destroyed would be a fun one too.
And no complaining about too many badges. I still see agents frequently badge locked even with all of the stupid easy ones we have now.
Can we get updates ahead of time on what the upcoming month's Second Sunday event will be?
The March one will still be 6 missions, as normal:
After that, we might get new tasks announced with the Q2 Event schedule.
Oh that's just stupid then. So we have a placeholder until Niantic can code it to be a different event?
Also, that schedule already changed. The Valentines starting earlier and the Toast badge. That's why I'm asking because it's Niantic here.
